President Shimon Peres met on Tuesday with international pop sensation Paula Abdul, who is visiting Israel this week as a guest of the Tourism Ministry.
Abdul's desire to visit Israel was based on her Jewish roots and her wish to celebrate a belated bat mitzvah at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
Abdul received a warm welcome from Peres at the President's Residence in Jerusalem
"Today I am fulfilling the dream and am very excited to be in Israel," Abdul said. "I only landed yesterday and I already feel I won't want to leave."
"Everyone told me you’re so sababa, and it’s true,” Abdul said, using a slang Hebrew word meaning "cool."
Peres told Abdul that she should feel at home in Israel.
"I am sure that wherever you go you will feel the warmth and love of the people of Israel," Peres said.
In addition to Jerusalem, Abdul was expected to visit major tourist sites in Tel Aviv and the Galilee region during her trip.
