Over 80 percent of people who responded to a question posted on Israel Hayom's Hebrew-language Facebook page on Wednesday said they intend to fast on Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement which begins on Friday night.
The survey, which is not based on a representative sample, was extremely popular with Facebook users. By press time, some 10,000 people had participated. Some 80% of them said they were planning to fast on Yom Kippur, while 20% said they were not.
Israel Hayom's Hebrew Facebook page is the most popular Facebook page of any Israeli newspaper, with 160,000 "likes."
Visitors to the page are invited to enjoy a variety of popular applications and take part in occasional live chats with Israeli public figures, including government ministers, ambassadors and senior officials.
Recently, Israel Hayom unveiled a new English-language Facebook page, which will also feature interactive surveys and events.
