The number of illegal infiltrators to Israel dropped dramatically in September to 134, as opposed to nearly 1,300 in September 2011.
Meanwhile, the Israel Prison Service completed construction of detention centers with a capacity of up to 2,000 illegal migrants. Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch said that the IPS is "prepared to absorb the illegal infiltrators effective immediately."
About 60,000 Africans migrants, either looking for work or asylum, have come into Israel through Egypt in recent years.
Earlier in the year, Netanyahu's government implemented a plan to return infiltrators from South Sudan and the Ivory Coast back to their home countries. Only these two countries made agreements with the Foreign Ministry; their nationals in Israel numbered around 3,000.
Interior Minister Eli Yishai said last month that after the High Holidays, infiltrators from Sudan would be sent to detention centers because the Foreign Ministry would not allow their deportation to their country of origin.
"The world will make some noise and there will be some criticism, but I prefer a little noise in the world and to protect the country over here," Yishai said.
