The Israel Police on Thursday ordered all computers in the organization to be immediately disconnected from the Internet due to fears of a possible cyberattack.
The police force obtained intelligence about a possible virus to be planted into its computer network via a flash drive or CD.
An additional order was issued prohibiting connection of any external media devices to police computers.
An investigation is currently underway to determine whether the virus successfully entered the computer network and whether any damage has been caused.
It is not yet clear who is responsible for the attempted cyberattack. Police suspect it was an external entity, but investigators say they are checking all possibilities.
