An Arab man was suspected of attacking a female security guard at an office building in Bnei Brak on Tuesday morning in an effort to steal her gun.
 
Early reports said that shots were exchanged during the incident but a later report in Maariv said that a bullet was discharged as the man, who was armed himself, tried to overpower the guard and take her gun.   

Both individuals were lightly hurt in the incident. The security guard was transported to Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. 

The suspected attacker, who suffered a hand injury, escaped from the scene. He was later apprehended by police near the Ayalon Mall and transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

The police search efforts caused traffic disruptions in the area.

The incident took place around 6 a.m. when the suspected attacker, wearing a mask and gloves, arrived at a guard post at a facility belonging to the Elisra defense company on Hayarkon Street in Bnei Brak.

Police believe that the incident was criminal in nature and not nationalistically motivated.
