Israel Prison Service Commissioner Lt. Gen. Aharon Franco spoke for the first time on Monday about the Ben Zygier suicide case.
Franco hinted that the information provided to the IPS by the Mossad did not enable the imprisonment of Zygier to be managed as needed, which led to Zygier's suicide.
"Without diminishing our responsibility, in the matter at hand the IPS operated under constraints based on heavy state security considerations and the custody was done in cooperation with security authorities," Franco said.
According to foreign reports, Zygier, a dual Australian-Israeli citizen, was a Mossad agent who killed himself for unknown reasons in an Israeli jail in December 2010.
