Barely two days after the US Embassy in Tel Aviv warned American citizens in Israel of a heightened threat of rocket attacks due to a spike in regional tensions, France has warned French citizens in Haifa to exercise caution.
"Following the recent escalation in tensions in the region, the city of Haifa has been the subject of explicit threats," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website Wednesday.

In a related development, France condemned on Wednesday Iranian strikes against military bases housing US troops in Iraq, in retaliation for the US killing former Quds Force commander Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani in an airstrike early on Jan. 3.
"France would like to highlight again the importance of continuing the fight against Islamic State, while respecting the sovereignty of Iraq," said a statement from the French Foreign Ministry.
