Longtime Haaretz journalist Ariana Melamed received a troubling Twitter message over the weekend, as a user of the social media platform urged others to gang-rape her.
Melamed is an outspoken critic of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, often angering his supporters. However, this time, a user identifying as Avner Tzipori tweeted, "I heard that gang rape is being organized for Ariana Melamed ... want to come?" It is unclear if the user profile is authentic.
Melamed, calling her threatener scum, stated that as a rape victim, "No lowlife like you could ever get the best of me. Get ready for war. There is no forgiveness and no disregard for verbal sexual harassment which is a criminal offense. The help of decent women and men is needed here. "
