Sudan is set to become the next Muslim-majority country to normalize the ties with Israel, Israeli media reported over the weekend, citing unnamed Sudanese officials.

According to the report, the normalization will be high on the agenda at an Abu Dhabi meeting set for this week between Sudanese, American, and Emirati officials.

As part of the agreement with Israel, Sudan is seeking financial assistance from Washington, as well as to be removed from a US list of state sponsors of terrorism, the report said.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Kuwait will most likely be the next Arab-majority country in the Middle East to normalize ties with Israel.

Trump made the prediction at a White House press briefing hours after meeting with Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, the son of Kuwait's ruling emir.

The Kuwaitis "are so excited that we signed the first two countries and I think they'll end up fairly quickly being a part of it," Trump said, referring to Gulf nations of Bahrain and the UAE, who signed a historic normalization agreement with Israel earlier this week at the White House.

Known as the Abraham Accords, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the respective foreign ministers of the UAE and Bahrain sealed the deal with a signing ceremony hosted by the US president.

Trump repeated his claim made earlier this week that more countries in the region were eager to establish ties with the Jewish state, noting that at least "seven or eight countries that want to be a part of it."

He added: "Nobody thought this would happen and not only is it happening, it's happening rather easily."

Last month US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo flew from Tel Aviv to Sudan on board of the first direct flight between the two countries, fueling speculation of a possible normalization.

Pompeo's trip to Sudan came on the heels of a historic normalization agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, which Bahrain subsequently joined.

However, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok then told Washington's top diplomat that his government had no mandate to normalize ties with Israel.
