A five-year-old boy was seriously injured on Saturday after being bitten in the hand by a crocodile. The indicent took place while the boy and his family were visiting the Crocoloco Crocodile Farm in southern Israel.

Paramedics provided the boy with medical treatment before evacuating him by helicopter to Soroka University Medical Center in Beersheba. He was admitted to the hospital in moderate-to-severe serious condition. Dr. Yuri Kalasov from Soroka's orthopedic surgery ward, told reporters that surgeons were able to save the boy's hand, mend several of the broken bones and repair tissues within the hand.
Security chief for the Central Arava Regional Council Uri Lev stressed that visitors to the crocodile ranch are warned not to apporach the animals. "The boy wandered alone for a few moments, approached the young crocodiles' pool in violation of saftey instructions and put his hand through the fence."
