Former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon called on US President Joe Biden Wednesday to contact Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, listing the world leaders to whom the newly elected American leader has already reached out.

Biden was sworn in on Jan. 20. A new American president traditionally calls allied world leaders, although there is no particular order in which the calls are made. Still, as Jerusalem is Washington's closest ally in the Middle East, sources at the Prime Minister's Office have expressed concern over Biden's apparent snub of Netanyahu.

The new US administration, for its part, has been nothing but reassuring towards Israel.

"Might it now be time to call the leader of Israel, the closest ally of the US?" Danon wrote on his Twitter account after listing a dozen countries contacted by Biden, including France, Germany, Great Britain, and Russia.

Danon also listed Netanyahu's office phone number in the message.

@POTUS Joe Biden, you have called world leaders from#Canada#Mexico#UK#India#France#Germany#Japan#Australia#SouthKorea#Russia
Might it now be time to call the leader of #Israel, the closest ally of the #US?

The post went viral almost immediately and was retweeted by diplomats, reporters, and even celebrities. CNN's Jake Tapper retweeted it and Canadian Jewish actor and comedian Seth Rogen called it "the most Jewish tweet ever."

On Monday, Netanyahu said he expected Biden to call him "soon" and that they will meet when the latter starts contacting Middle East leaders, "as he sees fit, appropriate."

The fact that Biden has not yet called him is not "a sign" of strife in the American-Israeli relations, the prime minister said.

"There is no doubt that our alliance is strong. It does not mean that we agree on everything, but our alliance is strong, just like our friendship of almost 40 years," he assured.
