The suspect, 20, was spotted late Monday afternoon by residents of the Binyamin area alongside a stretch of Highway 60 that runs between the settlements Eli and Maaleh Levona. As soon as they noticed him, the locals reported him to the Binyamin Regional Council's security hotline.

The tip was transferred to the IDF, and shortly thereafter forces arrived at the spot where the Palestinian had been seen and arrested him.

At the time of his capture, the suspect was carrying a gun and a knife, as well as ammunition. An initial investigation into the event revealed that he had already served a stint in prison in 2019 for throwing an explosive device.

Head of the Binyamin Regional Council Yisrael Gantz praised the residents' "vigilance," saying their report had prevented a major terrorist attack. Gantz expressed his thanks to the council's security department, as well as the IDF for its "prompt action."

The previous night, undercover Israeli forces were operating in Jenin to arrest a known terrorist fugitive. While they were in the city, they were targeted by gunfire. The forces fired back in self-defense. Reports Monday morning said that four terrorists had been killed and three more wounded in the shooting. None of the Israeli personnel were wounded.
