An Israeli man was killed Monday while trying to escape the fighting in Kyiv, the Foreign Ministry confirmed Monday night.

Roman Brodsky, 40, a father of two who was living in Ukraine, was travelling in a convoy of five cars heading toward Moldova when the vehicles became trapped between Russian and Ukrainian fire while on a highway 84 km (52 miles) south of Kyiv.

Despite initial reports, it was unclear whether the fire that hit the cars was carried out by Russian or Ukrainian forces.

The Foreign Ministry said that the director of the department responsible for Israeli citizens abroad had spoken to Brodsky's children, and that his parents had been notified.

Foreign Minister Yair Lapid tweeted his condolences to Brodsky's family, promising his ministry would help his relatives in any way possible. Defense Minister Benny Gantz also tweeted his condolences, saying his "heart was with Brodsky's family" and noting that Israel was "working around the clock" to extract Israeli citizens and any Ukrainian Jews who wanted to leave.

Deputy director of Hatzalah in Ukraine Shlomi Elisha said, "This was a major event."

Hatzalah in Ukraine urged all Israeli citizens in Ukraine who could leave to do so as soon as possible, as long as they took care not to violate the military curfew, which in Kyiv began at 7 p.m. Monday and will remain in place until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

UN Human Rights chief Michelle Bachelet said Monday that at least 102 civilians in Ukraine have been killed since Russia launched its invasion last Thursday, with a further 304 injured, but the real figure is feared to be "considerably higher."

Bachelet, addressing the opening session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, said: "Most of these civilians were killed by explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including shelling from heavy artillery and multi-launch rocket systems, and air strikes. The real figures are, I fear, considerably higher."

Some 422,000 Ukrainians have fled their homeland, with many more displaced within the country, she told the Geneva forum which earlier agreed to hold an urgent debate on Ukraine later this week.
