New details have emerged surrounding the Mossad operation in Iran to abduct an Iranian man named Mansour Rasouli and interrogated him in a safe house after learning he was planning to assassinate an Israeli citizen.

Iran International, a Persian language television station headquartered in London, reported on Thursday that Rasouli was a member of a gang that worked for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. As a reminder, Rasouli had plotted to assassinate a staffer of the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul last year, a US general in Germany, and a journalist in France.

According to the report, Rasouli is a Kurdish national from the Ashnaabad region in the West Azerbaijan province of Iran. He is not an innocent farmer, but rather a member of a gang that, as stated, operated on behalf of the IRGC and laundered money through a company called Dalamper, Iran International reported. In exchange for cooperating, Rasouli's gang received illegal import and export options in the Islamic republic. Lokman Rasouli, Mansour's brother, is Dalamper's main shareholder and is responsible for the group's activities in Iraq.

Rasouli's family, according to the report, has close ties with the IRGC. Sabah Rasouli, Mansour's cousin, commands an IRGC brigade in the region of Urmia, the largest city in West Azerbaijan. Another cousin, Aadel Rasouli, was a member of the IRGC before he was killed in 1985 in a clash with anti-Iran Kurdish Peshmerga forces.

In the heart of the Islamic republic

Rasouli, the report said, collaborated with the IRGC's Quds Force's Unit 840, which is tasked with planning and executing overseas operations against Western targets, including exiled members of the Iranian opposition.

The revelation of the Mossad operation indicates that Israel was able to penetrate the heart of the Islamic republic and even abduct and interrogate an IRGC agent inside the country itself.
