Report: Hezbollah sets up 15 posts along Lebanon-Israel border

The military accuses the Iranian-backed terrorist group of hiding behind a fictitious environmentalist group, the activities of which were exposed in 2018. Some of the operatives spotted in the posts are known members of Hezbollah's elite special forces unit, the Radwan Force.

Hezbollah has recently set up 15 new observation posts along the Israel-Lebanon border, Channel 12 News reported over the weekend.

The posts, manned around the clock by Hezbollah operatives, consist of an observation tower and adjacent residential structures. Each post stands about 5-250 yards from the border, the report said.

The flag of a Lebanese civil organization, "Green Without Borders" flies over the posts, but while this is means to allegedly link the move to the Lebanese environmental group, the IDF exposed it as a   fictitious organization founded by Hezbollah back in 2018.

"Hezbollah is trying to mask its activities as those by a green organization, but it is abundantly clear to us who are the people who operate these sites," Lt. Col. Avshalom Dadon told N12.

Israel has repeatedly accused the Iran-backed Shiite terrorist group of building observation posts on its border under the cover of various NGOs, including Green Without Borders.

"This is a clear statement of intent by Hezbollah," a senior IDF Northern Command official said. "The problem is that once Hezbollah erects such a post, the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL can no longer access the area," he added, referring to the UN's peacekeeping force in the area.

"We can clearly see Hezbollah operatives in plain clothes but armed with guns and rifles, which is a gross violation of UN Resolution 1701 that followed the [2006] Second Lebanon War and explicitly bars any presence of armed troops other than the Lebanese army near the fence."

Another Northern Command official said that some of the operatives spotted in the posts are known members of the Radwan Force – Hezbollah's elite special forces unit.

"Until recently most of them fought in Syrian territory and now they are leading the terrorist organization's new strategy to create immediate and continuous friction on the border," the report said, noting that Military Intelligence believes that most Radwan Force operations receive prior approval from Hezbollah's leadership.
