'UN report on 2021 Israel-Hamas fighting belongs in the trash'

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan refuses to meet with members of the commission of inquiry, whose recent report into the conflict has been deemed biased as it alleges Israeli wrongdoings, but completely fails to mention Hamas, despite the thousands of rockets it launched into Israel.

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan turned down this week a meeting with the commission of inquiry investigating the May 2021 conflict with the Hamas terror group.

"I have no intention of giving this 'commission' legitimacy or referring to any word it wrote about Israel because the document belongs in the trash and should be treated as such," he explained to Israel Hayom.

Earlier this week, the report was blasted as biased and one-sided as it alleged Israeli rights abuses, while completely failing to mention Hamas despite the fact that it launched over 4,000 rockets into Israel over the span of the 11-day conflict, forcing tens of thousands of Israelis to run to shelters.

In addition, the probe is headed by Navi Pillay, who has a history of anti-Israel rhetoric and consists of members who have faced backlash in the past for antisemitic remarks.

Erdan was invited to meet with the commission on Thursday, which is also when it is scheduled to present its report to the United Nations. Instead, he is expected to give an address opposing the findings.

"I refused to meet with the members of the commission because they are a group of Israel haters, who are hostile toward Israel and were appointed by the Human Rights Council, which includes countries with the most brutal regimes that murderously violate human rights every day," Erdan said.

"I intend to present all the factual and numerical data that prove the sick and antisemitic obsession of the Human Rights Council against Israel, to show which countries supported the establishment of this false commission, and to present what the committee's members said about Israel even before they were appointed to investigate the situation in the Gaza Strip and why their words should not be taken into consideration."
