Hamas' Gaza chief Yahya Sinwar has reportedly informed the leadership of the terror group in Qatar that they had "the Israelis right where we want them," the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday based on sources.

Sinwar reportedly reassured the leaders after they expressed concern at a meeting in Doha earlier this month that terrorists were being methodically eliminated and Hamas strongholds overran by the IDF in its offensive in the Strip.

According to the WSJ, Sinwar's "upbeat" message sent by a courier said that "Hamas' fighters, the Al-Qassam Brigades, were doing fine."

Sinwar's reported goal is to "emerge from the rubble of Gaza after the war, declare a historic victory by outlasting Israel's firepower, and claim the leadership of the Palestinian national cause," according to the WSJ.

The report also said that Hamas has changed its tactics since the ceasefire in November, and now "avoid[s] large firefights and instead use[s] small-scale ambushes–using tools ranging from rocket-propelled grenades to recorded voices of hostages to lure Israeli troops into traps."

Senior Israeli officials told the WSJ that the accumulation of tactical wins on the battlefield might not add up to a "total victory," as promised by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
