The report, drawing on global intelligence and Telegram communications, details a 171% increase in malicious web application and API transactions, largely due to Web DDoS attacks, which nearly doubled per customer. DNS query flood vectors saw a more than threefold rise.
Government, business, and travel sectors were the primary targets of hacktivist-claimed DDoS attacks globally.
The first half of the year saw pro-Islamic groups targeting Israel, inspired by pro-Russian activities in 2022, while the latter half witnessed a shift to pro-Palestinian hacktivists following the Israel-Hamas conflict. This escalation in DDoS activity, especially in October 2023, reflects new tactics adopted by hacktivists, with significant increases in attacks across all regions, particularly the Americas and APAC. The report underscores the evolving threat landscape and the rise in sophisticated cyber incidents challenging detection efforts.
