The 'New York Times' internal source code and data were leaked on the 4chan message board, with the breach reportedly occurring in January 2024 due to exposed credentials for GitHub, a cloud-based code platform, according to several reports. The tech news website BleepingComputer reports The New York Times confirmed the details.

The leaked data is claimed to consist of roughly 5,000 repositories and 3.6 million files, including blueprints, Wordle, email marketing, ad reports, and mostly unencrypted data.

Past cyberattacks on media organizations like The New York Times and Disney highlight the growing threat of cybercrime and the need for enhanced security measures.

A hacker associated with Club Penguin breached Disney's servers, leading to the leak of 2.5GB of sensitive corporate data, which was part of a larger breach of Disney's Confluence server.
