Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Jerusalem in a bid to prevent Berlin from joining mounting international pressure on Israel. The meeting follows an invitation extended to Wadephul by his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Sa'ar, who is also slated to meet with him earlier in the day.
With several European countries poised to recognize a Palestinian state in September and amid growing diplomatic momentum against Israel, officials in Jerusalem are placing significant importance on the visit. They hope to convince Germany to refrain from joining what they describe as a diplomatic blitz targeting Israel.

In recent days, German officials have also voiced criticism of Israel, especially in light of distressing images circulated by European media, which depict severe hunger and food shortages in Gaza. A German government spokesperson stated this week that Berlin is prepared to take additional measures to pressure Israel over the situation in the Strip.
