Qatar has initiated a campaign to establish a school in Kyrgyzstan to honor Anas al-Sharif, a Hamas Nukhba terrorist eliminated by the IDF. Education Minister Lolwah al-Khater leads the effort to memorialize al-Sharif, who also served as an Al-Jazeera journalist. Qatari media reports indicate the school will be constructed in Kyrgyzstan, a Muslim-majority nation in Central Asia.

This is not al-Khater's first effort to honor a Hamas figure. In February, she lauded Mohammed Deif, the leader of Hamas' military wing, after confirmation of his death. In a poem on her official X account, she wrote of Deif, "Someone like him could only walk this path," and further noted, "You were not alone but a nation sent in the form of a satisfactory individual … You lived like a sword without a family or a home."

A former diplomat educated in London with a master's degree, al-Khater previously held roles as minister of international cooperation and deputy foreign minister before becoming education minister in late 2024.
