The Israeli Navy intercepted 42 boats carrying hundreds of activists, including Greta Thunberg, who tried to breach Israel's maritime blockade on the Gaza Strip during Yom Kippur. The vessels were diverted to Ashdod Port, where passengers were handed over to Israeli Police.
The operation, dubbed Shield of the Horizon, was announced Friday evening by the IDF. According to the military, within 12 hours naval forces gained operational control over the flotilla, preventing what was described as a coordinated attempt to violate Israel's legal blockade on Gaza.

Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir monitored the operation from the navy's command center and maintained direct contact with Navy Commander Rear Admiral David Saar Salama, who oversaw the interception from the sea. Zamir praised the forces for what he called an unprecedented and flawless operation.

Rear Admiral Salama said the navy acted with determination and professionalism: "The Israeli Navy stands ready for missions that demand resolve in order to ensure that any attempt to breach the maritime blockade will be stopped far from our shores. I have full confidence in you to complete the mission successfully while upholding our values."
