Eric Berg argues that cereal and orange juice create a "massive fructose overload" for the liver. However, experts cited by The Mirror dismiss the extreme classification while acknowledging some nutritional concerns.

A "health educator" possessing a vast global audience has identified what he believes is the "number one most dangerous food in the world", according to The Mirror. The culprit is neither alcohol, table sugar, nor fried food. Instead, the report highlights an item described as "the perfect definition of ultra-processed food" – a daily staple often fed to children under the assumption it promotes wellness: cereal and orange juice.

Eric Berg contends this breakfast option is "a sugar bomb with another bigger sugar bomb" causing "massive fructose overload" that overwhelms the liver, The Mirror reported.

Is cereal and orange juice bad for you? (ukayacan/Getty Images)

"The number one most dangerous food in the world is not fast food," says Berg. "It's not even table sugar, or seed oils or fried food or even alcohol."

"Many people think this meal is actually healthy and it's been normalized because so many people do it, including myself growing up. But it destroys your liver faster than anything else I know. This common breakfast meal is basically a sugar bomb with another bigger sugar bomb. You get this massive fructose overload. And it's pasteurized or cooked so there's going to be no nutrients in it. In fact, the vitamin C is added because heat kills vitamin C."

"But the type of vitamin C they're using is made from corn starch and sulphuric acid, it's synthetic ascorbic acid. Tonnes of sugar, tonnes of hidden industrial starch, artificial flavouring, artificial colouring, zero protein so you're not going to be satisfied when you consume it. It's the perfect definition of ultra-processed foods: ingredients that have been so altered it no longer resembles its original structure."

"Now your liver has to deal with all that. It has to convert it into fat, creating a fatty liver. The most dangerous meal that you can eat is cereal and orange juice."

The Mirror noted that Berg has 14.2 million YouTube subscribers and 2.1 million followers on TikTok. His website states he is a certified chiropractor rather than a medical doctor, yet he claims to be a "globally recognized health educator known for his work in nutritional science". He transitioned from clinical practice to public education, publishing 6,000 videos on topics such as liver health that garner 200 million views monthly.

However, The Mirror reported that many scientists dispute his extreme rhetoric. While conceding that juice and cereals are often unhealthy, experts rarely classify them as the "number one most dangerous food in the world." Berg also champions the keto diet and intermittent fasting, concepts supported by scientists like Professor Tim Spector, according to the report.

Yet, his warning against "seed oils" faces rejection. King's College London Professor Sarah Berry, the chief scientist at the firm Zoe, told The Mirror : "The most surprising thing I've learned about seed oils is how much nutri-nonsense there is out there about seed oils."

The Health Ministry called on the general public on Monday to get vaccinated against the flu, following a Sunday night meeting of the Pandemic Management Team to review infection data from Israel and abroad. The data indicated that the flu season in Israel and other nations has begun early and with high intensity this year, characterized by significant illness among children. Based on global trends, a difficult viral season is expected.

Professionals from hospitals, community clinics, academia, and the Health Ministry attended the discussion, presenting a comprehensive review of flu infection data. After examining the latest intelligence, the team of experts recommended issuing a call for the entire population to vaccinate against the virus.

The experts emphasized that while the vaccine does not guarantee total immunity against infection, it is a significant factor in mitigating the severity of the disease and dramatically reducing the risk of severe illness and mortality.

Doctors on the team recommended that individuals with symptoms remain at home until recovery to avoid exposing others to the illness. They also called on parents to avoid sending sick children to schools and kindergartens to prevent infecting other children.

The Health Ministry emphasized that the vaccine is safe, recommended for ages six months and up, and constitutes the most effective protection for the public. The vaccine is available free of charge at the HMOs.

The ministry stated that professional bodies within the Health Ministry would continue to discuss strategies to increase flu vaccination rates as well as other issues raised during the discussion.

Text consultations cost $29 while video appointments require $49 payments without insurance, Prime memberships, or Amazon One Medical subscriptions, according to Amazon. Each session provides treatment protocols and prescriptions when medically appropriate.

Bergen Elsa, general manager for the service, described urgent care frustrations: "This service makes it easier for families to connect with trusted family care providers, day or night, saving time and money while providing peace of mind to parents and helping kids feel better sooner."

Families navigate treatable conditions on health.amazon.com, complete intake forms, and connect with board-certified physicians or licensed nurse practitioners. The platform serves families without insurance or those avoiding insurance claims for occasional medical needs, Amazon stated.

Dr. Natasha Bhuyan, national medical director, explained the service targets "in-between moments for parents with time-sensitive concerns" rather than replacing established pediatric relationships, according to Amazon. Amazon One Medical offices continue providing comprehensive age care with insurance billing for scheduled appointments and $99 annual membership fees for 24-hour virtual access.

Worldwide infections are rising from a new coronavirus as the disease COVID-19 continues evolving, Fox News reported. First identified in Southeast Asia during January, the XFG variant, known as Stratus, has gained momentum, with the World Health Organization designating it a "SARS-CoV-2 variant under monitoring" after reaching 38 countries by June, Fox News stated. Nine American states including New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Vermont, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota show climbing case numbers, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed, with CDC wastewater surveillance identifying XFG as the "predominant variant" based on Sept. 15 data, the outlet noted.

"Long-term infections allow the virus to explore ways to infect cells more efficiently, and [this study] adds to the evidence that more transmissible variants have emerged from such infections," Harvard University epidemiologist William Hanage says (Getty Images / fotomay)

Stratus follows the Nimbus strain, which demonstrates high infectiousness and "razor blade" sore throat symptoms, Stony Brook Medicine, the academic medical center of Stony Brook University in New York, reported. Mutation has enabled Stratus to evade immune defenses more effectively than Nimbus, WHO documented, though this change remains "marginal" and should "not be a concern for most people," Stony Brook published, Fox News stated. Unvaccinated individuals and those lacking previous infection face greater difficulty fighting the strain, the health system indicated.

Standard COVID-19 symptoms appear with the new variant, including fatigue, fever and persistent dry cough, with vaccinated individuals typically experiencing mild cases, Stony Brook noted, according to Fox News. Additional manifestations involve shortness of breath, chest tightness, sore or scratchy throat, headaches, body aches, upset stomach, nausea, loss of appetite, brain fog, trouble concentrating and decreasingly common loss of taste or smell, Fox News reported.

Medical attention enables proper diagnosis and treatment with antiviral medications, at-home remedies or over-the-counter drugs when symptoms emerge, experts recommend, the outlet stated. Individuals experiencing high fever above 103 degrees lasting beyond three days or symptoms worsening after improvement should consult doctors, Stony Brook directed, Fox News noted.

High-risk groups reduce severe COVID-19 illness through maintaining current vaccination status, experts counsel, according to Fox News. Prevention measures include wearing masks in crowded or indoor spaces, especially during cold and flu season, opening windows or using air filters indoors, frequent hand washing, avoiding close contact with others and checking local COVID numbers before traveling, the source indicated.

Mask-wearing in crowded spaces, improved ventilation through window opening or air filtration, frequent hand hygiene, social distancing and reviewing local transmission rates before travel all serve as preventive measures during cold and flu season, particularly for high-risk populations requiring updated vaccinations to minimize severe illness, Fox News reported.

A patient with compromised immunity sustained continuous acute coronavirus infection for over 750 days, according to Science Alert. Throughout this extended period, the individual maintained ongoing respiratory complications that resulted in persistent COVID-19 and required hospital treatment on five separate occasions.

Despite the prolonged timeframe, this patient's medical situation represents a distinct condition from long COVID, as reported by Science Alert. Rather than symptoms persisting after viral clearance, this case involved the active SARS-CoV-2 infection phase continuing beyond two years.

Although this exceptional duration might appear relevant only to medically vulnerable individuals, chronic infections carry broader implications for the general population, according to US researchers in their latest study published by Science Alert.

"Long-term infections allow the virus to explore ways to infect cells more efficiently, and [this study] adds to the evidence that more transmissible variants have emerged from such infections," Harvard University epidemiologist William Hanage explained to Sophia Abene at Contagion Live.

"Effectively treating such cases is hence a priority for both the health of the individual and the community," Hanage stated to Science Alert.

Genetic examination of viral specimens gathered from this patient spanning March 2021 through July 2022 demonstrated the virus's activities during its prolonged invasion, as conducted by Boston University bioinformatician Joseline Velasquez-Reyes and research colleagues from Science Alert.

Within this patient, the virus' genetic change frequency resembled rates typically observed throughout community spread, according to Science Alert. Additionally, several mutations showed striking similarities, with spike protein changes matching positions identified in the omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant.

Inside a single individual, identical mutation categories that produced the rapidly-reproducing omicron variant were developing once again, Science Alert reported. This evidence supports the hypothesis that omicron-type modifications evolved from selection forces the virus encounters within human bodies, the research team noted. Science Alert reported that long COVID can cause changes in people's brains, as documented in research by Rua et al., published in Brain, 2024.

This patient, diagnosed with advanced HIV-1, suspects initial SARS-CoV-2 exposure occurred during mid-May 2020, Science Alert stated. At that time, the individual was not undergoing antiretroviral treatment and could not obtain essential medical attention despite experiencing respiratory complications, headaches, body pain, and fatigue.

This 41-year-old individual presented with immune helper T-cell levels of merely 35 cells per microliter of blood, which accounts for the virus's ability to maintain infection for such duration, Science Alert noted. Normal ranges span 500 to 1,500 cells per microliter.

Fortunately, in this particular instance, the persistent pathogen did not demonstrate high infectiousness, according to Science Alert. "The inferred absence of onward infections might indicate a loss of transmissibility during adaptation to a single host," Velasquez-Reyes and the research team concluded in Science Alert.

Nevertheless, no assurance exists that other infections establishing prolonged presence within hosts will undergo similar evolutionary trajectories, prompting expert concern and demands for continued COVID surveillance and universal healthcare accessibility, Science Alert reported.

You finally convinced yourselves to get off the couch and work out – you exert yourselves throughout the entire session, never giving up as the trainer observes your every move, and finally you complete the workout, breathless but proud, barely making it home due to tight muscles, and then – suddenly you're sick. Sound familiar?

This is a widespread phenomenon typically classified as a mild viral infection or flu, but in many cases, it's actually the immune system's response to strenuous physical activity, without the involvement of an external pathogen. In other words, the body produces an anti-inflammatory response to exercise. This might sound like the perfect excuse to stop working out, but the opposite is true.

"Blood tests of marathon finishers and intensive care patients would be quite identical"

"The relationship between physical activity and the immune system is complex. Generally, physical activity enhances the immune system. Active people get sick less," Prof. Dan Nemet, director of the Child Health & Sports Center at Meir Medical Center, explains. "However, physical activity, like any medication, has side effects when you don't use enough of it or when it's in the wrong dosage. Physical activity is stress to the body, cortisol and cytokines [small proteins that form the basis for communication between immune system cells] are secreted, just like the effects of illness."

According to him, the body doesn't differentiate between types of stress, and when it detects it, it responds by fighting it. Therefore, "blood tests of someone who finished a marathon and someone in intensive care would be quite identical," surprisingly. "The question is how long the stress persists – in intensive care, we see a response of inflammatory mediators in the body for a long time. A person who has run a marathon typically recovers after several days. This is why muscles ache, you feel weak, etc., so you need to be careful about appropriate rest, sleep, and proper nutrition."

A comparison of inflammatory responses: intense exercise (top) versus severe infection (bottom), showing similar immune system markers (Screenshot: Journal of Applied Physiology)

However, there is a possibility of an inflammatory response after physical exercise as a result of an infection. "On the other hand, during intense physical activity, you damage all the 'arms' of the immune system for the short term, we call it the 'open window' theory. During this period, if you're exposed to a virus, the chance of getting infected is higher. This window is quite short, but it's significant, because the chance of getting infected with simple infectious diseases like flu is greater than usual.

"The immune response after exercise is significant. For example, if we look at blood tests of a person after running, the number of white blood cells [whose job is to fight foreign bodies] increases, because the body identifies some stress and fights it. However, the more trained you are, the immune system response improves and the inflammatory response decreases."

A surprising point is that after the stress of exercise and the recovery period, we will often feel better than usual. Therefore, Prof. Nemet explains, there's careful attention at Meir Medical Center to maintain a hygienic, ventilated environment, and even to vaccinate competitive athletes because their infection chances are higher, due to the "open window" theory. The frequency and intensity of their training increase infection risks.

How to recover properly?

Dr. Nemet emphasizes that the immune system improves with gradual physical activity and an organized training program. "At the same time, it's important to ensure sufficient recovery time, good nutrition that focuses on all food groups. For the regular athlete, this should be sufficient; there's no need to overdo it with various supplements. It's important to remember that rest is no less important than the exercise itself."

Regular and gradual physical activity can be significant for strengthening the immune system, especially heading into the winter season. However, it's essential to be aware of the need for balance, meaning that too little physical activity won't help strengthen the immune system, and neither will overly intensive training that leads to overtraining or training at too high a frequency.

At a high-energy event held within the Pentagon on Monday, Pete Hegseth and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. launched the "Pete and Bobby Challenge," a fitness initiative aimed at promoting health and physical readiness across the nation. With the goal to "make America healthy again," the pair led a group of US service members through a demanding workout to inspire American youth and bolster military recruitment standards.

The challenge, as outlined by Kennedy, is straightforward but strenuous: complete 100 push-ups and 50 pull-ups in any order in under 10 minutes. Hegseth added that five minutes is the "top standard" they hope participants will strive for. "We're going to be fit, not fat," Hegseth declared. "We want recruits that are ready to go and challenged."

While both hosts completed the demanding circuit. Although reports in the media suggested Hegseth, 45, finishing in 5 minutes and 25 seconds and Kennedy, 71, in 5 minutes and 48 seconds, it could not be fully ascertained from the video, and in fact before they started, the Health secretary joked, "We are not going to be able to do it." It was the military personnel who set the benchmark for elite fitness. Several service members completed the challenge with remarkable speed:

  • Navy Commander Gonzales finished in 3 minutes and 56 seconds.

  • Gunnery Sergeant Prince clocked in at 3 minutes and 24 seconds.

  • Gunnery Sergeant Hyde recorded the fastest time of the day, an impressive 2 minutes and 43 seconds.

The event concluded with a call to action, as Hegseth and Kennedy Jr. challenged others to take on the workout. Their challenges were extended to Sean Duffy, television personality Will Cain, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"We hope Americans will take this challenge and you'll pass it along," Hegseth said, emphasizing the need for a nation that is "fit," "healthy," and possesses a "healthy fighting force." Kennedy echoed the sentiment with a simple, powerful message: "Let's make America healthy again."

"President Trump inspired us to do this," Kennedy was later quoted on Newsmax. "This is the beginning of our tour, challenging Americans to get back in shape. Eat better, but also, you need to get out and exercise."

A groundbreaking four-week investigation tracking 236 German adults through constant smartphone monitoring has provided definitive scientific proof that coffee consumption directly manipulates brain chemistry to produce measurable happiness increases, fundamentally validating the daily ritual of millions while revealing caffeine's powerful psychological control over human emotional states through targeted dopamine receptor manipulation.

Coffee News documented a comprehensive investigation by German and British scientists who tracked emotional states among 236 participants using smartphone technology over four weeks. Bielefeld University and University of Warwick researchers collected mood assessments seven times daily, establishing clear connections between caffeine consumption and happiness levels.

Many will go to extreme lengths just so they could get their preferred brew (Moshe Shai)

Participants demonstrated markedly elevated happiness and enthusiasm levels during mornings following coffee consumption compared to caffeine-free periods, researchers told Coffee News. The investigation, featured in Scientific Reports, employed repeated smartphone questionnaires to document real-time emotional fluctuations and their relationship to beverage intake within 90-minute windows.

University of Warwick's Professor Anu Realo detailed the biological processes underlying coffee's emotional benefits. "Caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors, which can increase dopamine activity in key brain regions – an effect that studies have linked to improved mood and greater alertness," Realo explained to Coffee News.

Beyond positive emotional gains, researchers documented decreased sadness and upset feelings among coffee drinkers, though these reductions appeared less substantial than happiness improvements. Participants experienced measurably diminished negative emotions on coffee consumption days versus periods without caffeine intake, scientists confirmed to Coffee News.

The research methodology involved brief smartphone-based mood evaluations, focusing on emotional conditions and recent caffeine consumption history. Scientists collected responses throughout various daily periods to establish comprehensive emotional patterns across the extended investigation timeframe.

Bielefeld University's Senior Author Professor Sakari Lemola provided global context for caffeine consumption behaviors. "Around 80% of adults worldwide consume caffeinated beverages, and the use of such stimulating substances dates far back in human history," Lemola confirmed to Coffee News. "Even wild animals consume caffeine; bees and bumblebees prefer nectar from plants that contain caffeine."

Ivanka Trump has earned recognition primarily as President Donald Trump's daughter and as a former White House advisor, yet she has simultaneously built her reputation as an entrepreneur through her fashion brand. What many may forget is her background as a teenage model, which demanded maintaining peak physical condition constantly.

As she nears the midpoint of her forties, Ivanka Trump has abandoned her yoga and pilates-focused approach in favor of more demanding strength training protocols. "I believe in strength training methodology centered on fundamental, time-efficient movements – squats, deadlifts, hinges, pushes and pulls," she shared via Instagram. "These form the foundation of my training philosophy, emphasizing functional strength that serves real-life demands."

She hasn't transitioned into professional powerlifting – not yet, anyway. However, her commitment to proper technique remains unwavering, ensuring complete mastery of each movement pattern before incorporating additional resistance. She consistently maintains full range of motion throughout her exercises.

Ivanka Trump's strength training methodology

Ivanka Trump works with a personal trainer twice weekly, and her Instagram content reveals the specifics of these sessions. Her routine incorporates back squats, deadlifts, TRX suspension training, lat pulldowns and lateral lunges. Sandy Brockman, one of her fitness coaches, explained to the Daily Mail that compound movements deliver superior effectiveness compared to fitness industry trends that cycle through popularity.

The reason Ivanka Trump avoids isolation exercises targeting single muscle groups becomes clear when examining her training philosophy. Most of her strength work revolves around the "Big 5" movement patterns – exercises engaging multiple muscle groups concurrently. These movements simultaneously build strength, enhance coordination and accelerate fat metabolism.

Brockman establishes specific strength benchmarks for clients including Ivanka Trump. "My minimum strength targets for clients encompass five perfect push-ups, two strict pull-ups, one bodyweight back squat, one bodyweight deadlift, and one overhead press using 48 pounds (22 kg)," she explained.

Ivanka Trump integrates strength training with enjoyable activities

For those who find weight lifting unappealing, Ivanka Trump acknowledged during the "Skinny Confidential" podcast that she shares this sentiment.  "I enjoy going for walks I enjoy playing sports I really enjoy Pilates and yoga but I have seen such a transformation in terms of my health.

She clarified her continued appreciation for yoga and Pilates while expanding her activities to include surfing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, hiking and golf.

Since relocating to Miami with her husband Jared Kushner, she frequently walks oceanside routes after school drop-offs. She often wears swimwear beneath her clothes, enabling spontaneous water activities.

Her motivation for consistent weight training stems from the profound health improvements she's experienced. This transformation required time to manifest. Previous attempts at strength training yielded minimal results until she revolutionized her nutritional approach. While Brockman recommends clients consume 20 grams of protein every few hours, Ivanka Trump exceeds these guidelines significantly. She maintains protein intake reaching 50 grams per meal.

Britain's advertising watchdog banned a Marks & Spencer advertisement after determining the model appeared "unhealthily thin" in skinny jeans, marking the latest crackdown on fashion retailers promoting unrealistic body standards through their marketing campaigns.

The Advertising Standards Authority determined that strategic camera positioning and the model's pose in a Marks & Spencer skinny jeans advertisement created an irresponsible portrayal that emphasized extreme thinness, forcing the retailer to remove the controversial imagery.

Marks & Spencer joined Next as the second major British retailer to have skinny jeans advertisements banned this year, as the Advertising Standards Authority intensifies its campaign against fashion marketing that promotes unhealthy body images through extreme thinness.

The regulatory decision represents another strike against major British retailers promoting unrealistic body standards through their fashion marketing campaigns. BBC detailed how the advertising watchdog concluded that the model's appearance emphasized extreme thinness in a manner deemed irresponsible for public consumption.

According to BBC, the banned advertisement showed a woman modeling skinny jeans in a pose that made her legs appear disproportionately small compared to the rest of her body, further accentuating her diminutive frame. The Advertising Standards Authority determined that this visual presentation crossed the line into promoting unhealthy body imagery.

Marks & Spencer defended the controversial advertisement by explaining that the model's positioning was selected to convey confidence and comfort rather than to emphasize slimness. BBC reported that the retailer also justified the footwear selection as serving "stylistic and fashion" purposes exclusively.

The company told investigators that all their models undergo selection based not only on professional appropriateness but also on health and wellbeing considerations. BBC noted that Marks & Spencer emphasized its commitment to ensuring all models maintain good health and comply with industry standards designed to prevent the promotion of unhealthy body images.

The Advertising Standards Authority acknowledged investigating three additional M&S advertisements during this review process, though those campaigns escaped prohibition. BBC reported that despite avoiding bans, Marks & Spencer chose to modify and remove the specific images from those other advertisements.

This regulatory action against Marks & Spencer follows a similar decision earlier this year involving retail competitor Next. BBC detailed how the advertising watchdog banned a Next advertisement for blue skinny jeans because the model's positioning made her appear "unhealthily thin."

The regulatory crackdowns extend beyond fashion advertisements into other controversial marketing areas. Earlier this month, the Advertising Standards Authority banned an Instagram post by television personality Gemma Collins that promoted a weight-loss drug and application.

Advertising prescription-only weight-loss medications in the UK violates legal requirements, and Collins' post represented one of nine advertisements prohibited during the watchdog's intensified enforcement campaign against such content.

Collins acknowledged to investigators that her social media posts had promoted the Yazen weight-loss service and application, telling the Advertising Standards Authority that she would comply with regulatory guidance in future marketing activities, BBC reported.
