Even though it’s Trump, Israel’s great friend in the White House, we should say plainly: the very idea of giving Turkey any role in Gaza, a country that even after the massacre still hosts Hamas terrorists on its soil, is a grave moral distortion.

Hamas has demanded Israel permit 100 to 200 terrorists trapped in tunnels to retain their weapons and receive secured Red Cross passage through Israeli-controlled zones back to Hamas territory. Israel firmly rejects the demands and has warned Hamas that continued attacks will result in elimination of all trapped terrorists.

A high-stakes legal battle intensified Monday as a Tel Aviv court rejected the Military Advocate General's appeal for release, citing obstruction fears and keeping Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi behind bars for three more days while police prepare confrontations with former officials to unravel who knew about a classified video leak.

Israel has failed in its attempt to defeat Hamas and is unprepared to confront it diplomatically as well. It is now clear to all that Phase B of the Gaza deal will not be implemented and that Hamas will refuse to disarm. Israel must therefore prepare for a reality of a living, breathing, and kicking Hamas—albeit weakened and battered—continuing to operate freely in the Gaza Strip under the very deal Israel signed.
