Turkey has expanded its influence across Africa and can no longer be ignored by Israel, according to Dr. Rashid Abdi, director of research at the Sahan Global think tank in Kenya, who spoke at the Africa-Israel Economic Forum held over the weekend. "Israel's rivals are expanding influence in Africa. Israel cannot afford to stay out of the arena," he said during the event.

Abdi came to Israel as a guest of the Israel-Africa Institute. In conversation with Israel Hayom, he revealed Turkey conducts launch experiments in Eritrea with ballistic missile that can reach Israel, among other destinations.

"The main message for the State of Israel is that Israel cannot afford to stay out of Africa, out of the Red Sea arena, out of the western Indian Ocean. Many of Israel's strategic rivals are advancing very strongly on the continent right now," Abdi said.

He added, "Turkey signed a groundbreaking security cooperation agreement with Somalia. There are thousands of Turkish soldiers stationed there, and they are building a space base that will ultimately allow Turkey to improve the range of its ballistic missiles."

Abdi added that an area north of Mogadishu has been identified, where the Somali president announced Turkey received land for port development and a space base. "If I were Israel, I would definitely be worried."

Turkey, he said, has "blue water capabilities" – Turkish naval vessels patrol through the Suez Canal, down the Red Sea and along the Somali coast. "For the first time, Turkey is not just a Mediterranean power, but also a power in the Red Sea and in the western Indian Ocean."

Eugene Kandel, chairman of the Board of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, said at the conference, "Radical Islam operates in Africa too and tries to return Africa to conflict against the West. Israel must not let this happen."

Shiri Fein-Grossman, CEO of the Israel-Africa Relations Institute, said, "Israel can make a tremendous difference in Africa at a relatively low investment."

IDF orders removal of Chinese cars over espionage fears https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/02/idf-orders-removal-of-chinese-cars-over-espionage-fears/ https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/02/idf-orders-removal-of-chinese-cars-over-espionage-fears/#respond Sun, 02 Nov 2025 10:35:53 +0000 https://www.israelhayom.com/?p=1099481 Israel's military command has initiated confiscation of approximately 700 Chinese-manufactured vehicles from army officers following intelligence assessments that identified genuine espionage threats through embedded surveillance technology. The directive from the IDF chief of staff targets vehicles equipped with cameras, microphones, and sensors that transmit data to external servers, beginning with officers in classified roles before extending to all ranks by early 2026.

In an unusual move, the IDF has begun collecting Chinese-made vehicles from officers, under direct orders from the chief of staff. The decision follows an assessment by Israel's security agencies that certain Chinese cars pose a real risk of sensitive information leaks or even espionage through their onboard systems.

The step is part of a broader policy tightening restrictions on Chinese vehicles, after they were already banned from entering IDF military bases.

The process is being carried out gradually: In the first phase, vehicles are being collected from officers in classified roles or those with access to sensitive security information. By the end of the first quarter of 2026, the measure will extend to all officers. The IDF estimates that around 700 vehicles are involved, most of them CHERY models that had been allocated to officers with large families because they seat seven passengers.

Entrance to an IDF Base None

Officials explain that some Chinese vehicles include systems equipped with cameras, microphones, sensors, and connectivity technologies that transmit data to external servers, sometimes without the control of the user or even the local importer.

A former senior officer told Israel Hayom the problem goes far beyond cameras and microphones: every "smart" car is essentially a computer on wheels, with a closed operating system and wireless connections that can enable intelligence gathering near sensitive installations. Several months ago, the Chinese ambassador to Israel, Xiao Junzheng, told Israel Hayom that the allegations against his country's electric vehicles were unfounded.

According to estimates, the IDF's decision is also influenced by a global trend. The US and the UK have already banned Chinese vehicles from security-sensitive zones. A senior official familiar with the issue added that the move is also linked to Israel's relations with Washington, amid the ongoing economic confrontation between the US and China.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said it does not intend to comment on the matter.

Shafali Verma's first ODI fifty in three years powered India to a commanding 106/1 position against South Africa in the Women's World Cup final on Sunday at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium, with the opener partnering Smriti Mandhana in a 104-run stand before Chloe Tryon's left-arm spin dismissed Mandhana for 45 off 58 balls in the 18th over. Jemimah Rodrigues, whose record-breaking 127 off 134 deliveries led India's world record chase against Australia in the semifinal, joined Verma at the crease as the hosts pursued their first Women's World Cup championship after rain delayed the match start by more than one hour.

Both teams entered seeking maiden World Cup titles, with South Africa advancing behind captain Laura Wolvaardt's brilliant 169 off 143 balls in a dominant semifinal victory over England. India's potential triumph would create a transformative moment for women's cricket globally, building on the impact of previous Indian championship victories including the men's 1983 and 2011 World Cup wins and the 2007 T20 World Cup, with the women's 2017 final appearance already elevating the sport's domestic profile significantly.

Verma completed her milestone fifty by taking a single off Tryon's final delivery in the over that dismissed Mandhana, with the stroke coming three years after her last ODI half-century and arriving in cricket's biggest stage. Stadium silence following Mandhana's edge to wicketkeeper Sinalo Jafta transformed into massive cheers when Rodrigues walked out, with match reports stating, "Expectedly a massive roar greets Jemimah Rodrigues to the middle." Verma had earlier launched a memorable six off Nadine de Klerk's 15th-over delivery, holding her pose after executing a straight-bat shot that recalled her March 2023 carnage at the same venue when she blasted an unbeaten 76 off 28 balls for Delhi Capitals.

That previous DY Patil performance prompted then-captain Meg Lanning to tell Anjum Chopra at the post-match presentation, "Shafali certainly looked as if she was (trying to make sure she caught an early flight)," adding, "That was a pretty cool show to watch from the other end. I was just cheerleading from the non-strikers' end. Some pretty clean hitting, some of the best I've seen, a pretty amazing performance." Lanning's tactical guidance proved prophetic: "I did say to her, 'just keep it simple, stay still and hit the ball straight' – and that's exactly what she did."

Verma's composed performance showed rare maturity despite her return coming only after Pratika Rawal's injury forced selectors to recall the dropped opener, while South Africa's bowling changes through Nonkululeko Mlaba and de Klerk reduced scoring significantly after the powerplay. India concluded the opening 10 overs with their tournament-best powerplay total at 64/0, though only seven runs came across the next three overs as South Africa's spread fields and disciplined bowling temporarily stemmed the flow before Verma approached her milestone with Rodrigues beginning the rebuilding process alongside her.

India's position represented a foundation for chasing their historic first championship, with Wolvaardt's toss victory putting the hosts into bat first after the rain delay interrupted what had been scheduled as a straightforward start to the final. Both Mandhana and Verma demonstrated the aggressive intent that characterized India's tournament progression, particularly the semifinal record chase that saw Rodrigues deliver an innings of a lifetime to eliminate defending champions Australia and set up this title showdown at Navi Mumbai.

New bill could turn Israelis into conditional Jews https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/02/rabbinical-courts-jewish-status-new-bill/ https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/02/rabbinical-courts-jewish-status-new-bill/#respond Sun, 02 Nov 2025 07:32:40 +0000 https://www.israelhayom.com/?p=1099321 A new bill would grant Israel's Rabbinical Courts sweeping power to investigate any citizen's Jewish status, making religious rulings binding on the state.

A new government bill seeks to expand the powers of the rabbinical courts and allow them to open Jewish status investigations for any person, even if they did not request it themselves. According to the proposal, a rabbinical court decision on Jewish status would be binding on every state authority, including the Population and Immigration Authority.

This is a large-scale change in the relationship between the civil authorities and the religious establishment, sparking a fierce public debate centered on the question of who is authorized to determine who is a Jew in the State of Israel.

Currently, two separate systems exist in Israel. One is civil and managed by the Population and Immigration Authority, which includes registration of "ethnicity" and "religion." The second is halachic (Jewish law) and managed by the chief rabbinate and the rabbinical courts, which check Jewish status for marriage purposes. Until now, a clear separation was maintained between them, but the new proposal seeks to abolish it and establish that any decision by a Rabbinical Court will also be binding on the Population and Immigration Authority.

The bill, submitted by the Ministry of Religious Services and the rabbinical courts, is an official government initiative and is expected to soon reach the Knesset for deliberations and a first-reading vote. According to sources involved in shaping the proposal, its goal is to strengthen the status of the rabbinical courts and to regulate their standing in law regarding decisions related to the Jewish identity of the state's citizens.

The rabbinical courts claim this is a necessary amendment intended to prevent contradictions between state authorities and create uniformity in records. Critics of the law warn that this step could blur the line between religion and state and lead to the subordination of population registries to halachic rulings. The bill states that the director of the Jewish Status Investigations Unit or a marriage registrar will be able to initiate a Jewish status investigation on their own accord, even if the person did not request it or is not even aware of it.

This means that any person in Israel could find themselves being investigated about their Jewish status following a decision by a religious or administrative official. This is an unprecedented expansion of authority that raises concerns about violations of basic rights.

The rabbinical courts told Israel Hayom that clear rules will be established to define when such proceedings can be opened. According to the courts: "Rules will be established that will require representatives to show a concrete concern about a person's Jewish status before opening an investigation. It will not be possible to just accuse anyone. The rules will be formulated during the discussions on the law." However, these rules have not yet been included in the initial draft of the law and are expected to be determined only later within the framework of regulations.

A man blows the Shofar ahead of Rosh Hashana at the Western Wall (Oren Ben Hakoon) Oren Ben Hakoon

The Itim organization was not impressed by the clarification. Attorney Ohad Weigler, director of the public policy department at the organization, said: "There are many problematic things in this. It essentially turns all of us, all citizens of Israel, into conditional Jews. So many people can come and open a Jewish status investigation process on anyone. This can lead to vengeful actions. What happens if a person doesn't want someone else to get married? A week before the wedding, they find someone authorized to open the Jewish status investigation process, and that's it, the wedding is postponed. What happens if her family gets scared and cancels the wedding? This is a dangerous situation."

Weigler added: "The bare minimum is to write in the bill, in the clause, that the regulations will specify what conditions are required to begin a Jewish status investigation process for any person, but they did not do this."

According to him, the proposal particularly harms immigrants from the former Soviet Union: "This is a huge trauma for immigrants from the Soviet Union. They came here believing they were Jews, living Jewish lives, feeling part of the people, and then they are told they are not. They enter a war to prove they are part of the people, and let's tell the truth, it's impossible to prove everything. I can't prove the Jewishness of my great-grandmother from Europe, she went through the Holocaust, they moved to Israel, there were no accurate records or records disappeared, it's impossible."

This pain is well known to Vladimir, a resident of the north, who underwent a lengthy Jewish status investigation process. He said, "The feeling is that they are looking for you, trying to show you are not Jewish, and you are fighting to show who you are. And at the end of the day, we fought for years to prove our Jewishness, we finally succeeded, and then more than a decade later, a new official arrived who didn't trust his predecessor's work, and we went through this process all over again. You feel alone, betrayed."

An additional clause in the proposal allows the court to add first-degree relatives of the person being investigated to the Jewish status investigation process. If one of the family members is declared "not Jewish," their relatives will be required to choose whether to join the process and prove their Jewishness or be registered on a "marriage-delayed" list.

Thousands at the Western Wall on Monday, October 3, 2023 (Chaim Goldberg/Flash90) Chaim Goldberg/Flash90

This is a dramatic change compared to the current situation where such a ruling pertains only to the person themselves. Critics of the proposal claim this is a severe violation of the right to privacy and creates undue pressure on citizens to join a legal process with heavy personal consequences.

While the rabbinical courts see this move as a necessary correction that provides legal and religious certainty, civil organizations are warning of a serious violation of individual rights and public trust in state institutions.

For many immigrants and children of immigrants, the law brings up old fears and revives painful memories of constant scrutiny of their Jewish identity. The sense of trust built over years could be damaged if the state grants a religious body the authority to check the identity of citizens who never requested it at all.

If approved, the bill will grant the rabbinical courts unprecedented powers and will change the way the State of Israel defines who is a Jew and the way Jews define themselves.

The well-known model who was arrested on suspicion of involvement in a murder that occurred in her apartment is Lin Peer, who previously served as a state witness in the sex crimes case against modeling agent Shai Avital. Along with Peer, three men were arrested on suspicion of stabbing a man in her apartment in an incident that led to his death after he fell from the apartment window and was killed. Police are now trying to recruit her as a state witness in the murder case.

The incident began around a week and a half ago, when a man's body was found near a building in Petah Tikva where the model lives. The body was sent to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute when the initial assessment was that this was a suicide. At the institute, it became clear that the deceased was the son of a life prisoner who was previously convicted of murdering his wife. But the central finding that led to opening a criminal investigation was the discovery of stab marks on the victim's body. Following this finding, a gag order was imposed on the case, and an investigation began that led to the arrest of the model and the three men.

The investigation reveals a complex picture. The model invited the three men to her apartment, where they consumed drugs together. At a later stage, the victim also arrived at the apartment. According to the suspicion, an argument broke out in the apartment during which the victim was stabbed, and then he fell from the apartment window onto a fence and was killed. In their interrogations, the model and the men claim the man jumped from the window of his own volition and was thus killed, but police suspect he was pushed or fell after being stabbed during the confrontation.

Shai Avital (KOKO)

The detention of the model and the other suspects was extended until Thursday, November 6, when police are expected to request another extension of the detention.

Those in Peer's circle deny her involvement. "She's not connected to the case," sources close to her said. "She was in the apartment but didn't do anything. She's in total shock from the arrest." Attorney Shai Rodeh, representing one of the men, said, "My client denies the suspicions attributed to him, and claims that although he was in the apartment at the time of the murder, he was not involved in the murder itself."

Peer became known to the public previously as one of the key state witnesses in the sex crimes case against modeling agent Avital. She was one of 30 women who filed complaints against him, although ultimately an indictment was filed in only two cases.

In an interview she gave previously, she described the complexity the complainants experienced. "We are 30 women. 30, not one. And there are dozens and hundreds more women behind the scenes. Some of us, like me and others who suffered even more than me for years, were trampled and corrupted mentally every day." Peer expressed fear at the time of revenge from Avital. "I pray to the creator of the world that he won't take revenge. This person trampled my life, and the lives of so many other women."

The model herself is now in custody suspected of involvement in a murder case, while the investigation continues under a gag order.

At 5-7 billion years old, the ancient visitor predates the Solar System itself and formed near the center of the Milky Way, giving it unique composition unlike comets originating within our planetary system. In December, NASA's Clipper probe will make history by passing through the comet's tail during its journey to Jupiter's moon Europa, enabling the first-ever collection and analysis of interstellar material, astronomer Emerson Roberto Perez told Agora CNN.

Comet 3I/Atlas, the third confirmed interstellar object entering the Solar System, continues attracting scientific focus through its exceptional characteristics. The ancient celestial body reached perihelion last week, maintaining a distance of 127 million miles (204 million kilometers) from the Sun, according to Agora CNN.

Emerson Roberto Perez, an astronomer at the Urânia Planetarium, told Agora CNN that the features generating the greatest interest include the object's extraordinary velocity – 38 miles per second (61 kilometers per second) – the highest speed ever documented for a comet. Scientists estimate its age between 5 to 7 billion years, older than the Solar System's formation 5 billion years ago. Its birthplace in the central region of the Milky Way gives it a different composition from comets formed within our system. "Its dense structure and distant origin offer a unique opportunity to study the formation of other planetary systems," Perez told Agora CNN.

December will deliver a historic moment when NASA's Clipper probe, traveling toward Jupiter's moon Europa, passes through the comet's tail. This encounter will enable the first-ever collection and analysis of interstellar material, Agora CNN reported.

The nearest point to Earth occurs December 19, when the comet reaches 1.8 astronomical units – approximately 168 million miles (270 million kilometers) from our planet. "Due to this distance, it won't be visible to the naked eye and will require professional equipment to observe," Roberto concluded, as reported by Agora CNN.

India and Australia are competing in the third T20I at Hobart's Bellerive Oval. With Australia leading the five-match series 1-0, this is a crucial match for India; a loss would end their chances of winning the series. The Men in Blue need a significant resurgence to equalize the contest.

Australia's innings advanced toward the end, thanks to Marcus Stoinis, who reached his fifty by smashing three boundaries off Arshdeep Singh. Earlier, Stoinis survived a close call when a low catch by Rinku Singh was ruled 'not out' after the third umpire confirmed the ball bounced first.

Shivam Dube secured the vital wicket of Tim David, who departed for a stellar 74 off 38 balls after hitting a full delivery flat to Tilak Varma at long-off. Earlier, Matthew Short contributed with a "SIX!" off Abhishek Sharma, which Arshdeep Singh couldn't hold onto at the boundary.

Varun Chakaravarthy delivered a superb over, striking twice for India. He first dismissed Mitchell Marsh (11), caught by Tilak Varma at long-off. On the very next ball, Varun Chakaravarthy bowled Mitchell Owen for a golden duck.

Arshdeep Singh provided India with early breakthroughs. He first removed Head, who mistimed a lofted shot to Suryakumar Yadav at mid-off. Arshdeep Singh later struck again, dismissing Inglis, who miscued a pull shot straight to Axar Patel at deep backward square-leg.

India made three changes for the match, with Marsh and Head also on the sidelines for Australia. The Indian media highlighted that Sanju, Harshit, and Kuldeep were excluded from the Indian lineup. Sanju's omission occurred despite his recent T20I centuries against South Africa and his flexibility in the batting order.

In the third T20I at Hobart on Sunday, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav chose to bowl first after winning the toss against Mitchell Marsh's Australian team, the Indian Express reports. India, seeking to recover from a 125-run collapse in Melbourne, faces pressure on its key batsmen like Yadav, Shubman Gill, and Sanju Samson. The visitors' chances are bolstered by the absence of Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood, who is sitting out the rest of the series to prepare for the Ashes.

India's bowlers started strong, with Arshdeep Singh striking in his first over by removing Travis Head, courtesy of a simple catch by Suryakumar Yadav, according to the Indian Express. Singh later claimed his second wicket, dismissing Jos Inglis. Varun Chakaravarthy also made an impact, taking two wickets; he caught Mitchell Marsh attempting a shot against the breeze and then dismissed Mitchell Owen for a golden duck with a sharp delivery, allowing India to get back into the game, the Indian Express noted.

Despite the wickets, Tim David, who was promoted up the order, launched an aggressive counter-attack, as noted by the Indian Express. David reached a rapid 50 in just 23 deliveries, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground and establishing a 50-run stand with Marsh before his dismissal. David's innings, which included surviving a dropped catch by Washington Sundar, showcased his evolution from a "hitter" to a batsman who can build an innings, potentially securing him a World Cup spot.

The lineups confirmed India bringing in Jitesh Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, and Washington Sundar, while Australia substituted Sean Abbott for Hazlewood, the Indian Express detailed. The match is being played on a good batting wicket in Hobart, where the crowd is "buzzing" and Australia holds an unbeaten 5-0 record, as per the Indian Express.

At the toss, Mitchell Marsh confirmed the pitch was a "belter" and his team aimed to "post a big total," as cited by the Indian Express. Suryakumar Yadav stated India would "bowl first" and noted three changes. Yadav also commented on the previous match, giving "credit" to Hazlewood for his powerplay bowling: "(on Hazlewood) Absolutely. The way he bowled in the powerplay – if you're four down early, it's very difficult to recover. Credit goes to him, he bowled really well." He also praised Abhishek Sharma, saying "(on Abhishek) He's been doing this for a while now. He knows his game, knows his identity, and it's good he's not changing it – that's what's brought him success. Hopefully, he sticks with it and plays many more knocks like this for us," and commented on the turnaround: "(Quick turnaround for the next game) We need to do the same thing what we did in the first game – bat really well if we're batting first, put nice runs on the board and then come out and defend."

Meanwhile, India's management faced criticism regarding their batting order, reports the Indian Express. Srikkanth called Sanju Samson's promotion to No. 3 a "knee-jerk reaction" and argued, "You are spoiling the balance of the team; forget about the individual. Just because there was some zip in the wicket, you sent Sanju out to bat and he got out immediately." He emphasized the need for a "fixed position" rather than "shuffling the batting order," stating, "I don't understand what they are doing with Sanju Samson. He bats at 5 one game, then suddenly at 4, 6, 7, or 8. And in this match, he bats at 3. That is not fair, you've to give a fixed position. Mentally, only then can a batsman make up his mind. You can't just keep shuffling the batting order. You are spoiling that boy's confidence, which is not fair." Sadagoppan Ramesh echoed this, stating, "India needs to stop playing musical chairs with their batting order," and questioned why Samson was sent in at No. 3 when Suryakumar Yadav had succeeded there previously.

The Los Angeles Dodgers secured consecutive World Series championships for the first time in 25 years, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in an 11-inning Game 7 thriller on Saturday night, CNN reported. Will Smith's solo home run in the top of the 11th inning provided the winning margin, while Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered 2 and 2/3 scoreless relief innings to earn his third victory of the series. Los Angeles became the first franchise to repeat as champions since the New York Yankees won three straight titles from 1998-2000.

Toronto seized an early advantage when Bo Bichette homered off Shohei Ohtani in the third inning, according to CNN. The Dodgers narrowed the gap with runs in the fourth and sixth before Max Muncy's towering blast brought them within one. Andrés Giménez's run-scoring double rebuilt Toronto's cushion, but Miguel Rojas tied the contest at 4-4 with a ninth-inning home run that forced extra innings. The teams battled through bases-loaded jams in both the ninth and 10th innings before Smith's heroics in the 11th.

Yamamoto entered in relief and dominated Toronto's lineup, CNN noted. After complete-game and winning performances in Games 2 and 6 respectively, the Japanese ace faced his toughest challenge in the 11th when Vladimir Guerrero Jr doubled to lead off the inning. Isiah Kiner-Falefa's sacrifice bunt moved Guerrero to third before Yamamoto intentionally walked Addison Barger to set up a potential double play.

The strategy succeeded when Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk, who already had two hits in the game, hit a broken-bat grounder to shortstop Mookie Betts, CNN reported. Betts stepped on second and threw to first baseman Freddie Freeman for the game-ending double play. Kirk's at-bat came after Shane Bieber had allowed Smith's go-ahead homer in the top of the inning, giving Los Angeles the lead they needed.

Yamamoto recorded the game's first one-two-three inning in the 10th, retiring Giménez on a ground ball before striking out George Springer and getting Nathan Lukes on a fly ball, according to CNN. The performance brought Yamamoto's World Series total to 16 innings pitched. His relief work proved crucial after the Dodgers squandered their own bases-loaded opportunity in the top of the 10th.

Smith's decisive home run came after Bieber entered for the 11th inning and retired Miguel Rojas and Ohtani quickly, CNN noted. The catcher's blast off Bieber gave the Dodgers a 5-4 advantage with Yamamoto taking over to finish the championship run. Los Angeles had escaped Toronto's bases-loaded threat in the ninth inning, setting the stage for the extra-inning drama that would define one of baseball's most memorable Game 7 finishes.

Indian tech professional denied US visa in under 60 seconds despite $120,000 salary https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/02/us-visa-denial-indian-tech-worker-rejected/ https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/02/us-visa-denial-indian-tech-worker-rejected/#respond Sun, 02 Nov 2025 02:48:00 +0000 https://www.israelhayom.com/?p=1099311 A senior Indian technology professional's US visa application was denied in under one minute at the New Delhi embassy despite earning approximately $120,000 annually and maintaining strong ties to India. The cloud computing specialist sought to attend Kubecon + CloudNative Con 2025 in Atlanta but received a 214(b) refusal after a three-question interview. The case highlights unpredictability in US visa processing even for applicants with substantial professional credentials. (

A senior technology professional's conference participation plans were terminated when the US Embassy in New Delhi rejected his B1/B2 visa following an interview under one minute that included three questions, HT reported. The cloud platform specialist, who holds a senior leadership role, documented his experience on Reddit while seeking advice to avoid similar outcomes, attracting immediate attention from the information technology community.

The applicant detailed the interview and rapid denial, stating the officer posed three questions covering his travel purpose, international travel history, and US connections, HT reported. He disclosed plans to attend Kubecon + CloudNative Con 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. "I am a senior tech lead at a company and my day-to-day work is on Cloud Native technologies. It is important that I attend this conference to stay up to date on the latest events or movements in this field," he told the officer, according to HT. He confirmed travel to Lithuania, the Maldives, and Indonesia, but answered "No" regarding American family or friends. He received a 214(b) refusal slip shortly after.

The technical leader expressed shock at the rapid denial, citing his substantial foundation providing compelling return reasons, HT reported. "I'm employed in India with a stable job for the last 11 years. I make close to a crore annually and have an eight-month-old daughter, so I had very strong motivations to come back to India," he stated. He noted advance preparations for the event unavailable for live streaming. "The conference wasn't available for live streaming, so I had planned everything to attend it in person," he declared, adding that Atlanta reservations, hotel accommodations and detailed schedules were arranged, according to HT.

The B1 visa serves short business trips including conferences, meetings and negotiations, with holders prohibited from traditional employment but permitted to apply for jobs and attend interviews, HT reported. The B2 tourist visa addresses tourism, vacation, visiting friends and family, specific medical treatments and social events. In most instances, a B1/B2 visa is issued jointly for both purposes.

The US Department of State explicitly declares visas constitute privileges, not rights, subject to refusal or cancellation if officers believe applicants are dishonest or unreliable, HT reported. Applications may be rejected for minor discrepancies or alleged lapses in home country ties. The professional asked Reddit users about rejection causes and reapplication strategies, according to HT.

US daylight saving time ends: Did you move clock? https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/02/daylight-saving-time-ends-november-2-clock-change/ https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/11/02/daylight-saving-time-ends-november-2-clock-change/#respond Sun, 02 Nov 2025 02:30:22 +0000 https://www.israelhayom.com/?p=1099373 Daylight saving time ends Sunday, November 2, 2025, when Americans will set clocks back one hour at 2 a.m., according to NBC News. The time change, which began March 9, gives residents an extra hour as standard time returns until spring. Hawaii, most of Arizona, and several US territories don't observe the biannual adjustment. While the Senate passed permanent daylight saving legislation in 2022, the bill stalled in Congress.

Sunday brings the annual fall time adjustment across most of the United States, with clocks reaching 1 a.m. twice as the seasonal shift takes effect. The daylight saving period that began March 9 concludes Sunday, contrasting with spring's hour loss where timepieces bypass 2 a.m. completely – Sunday morning brings an hour gain, with clocks reversing from 1:59 a.m. to 1 a.m., according to NBC News. Earlier sunset times will begin appearing nationwide as late autumn transitions into winter months.

Standard time persists until spring arrives and the daylight adjustment resumes, with the next daylight saving period beginning March 8, 2026, and concluding November 1, 2026, NBC News reported. The Standard Time Act of 1918 established this system to maximize summer daylight by postponing sunset an additional hour, according to the Astronomical Applications Department of the US Naval Observatory cited by NBC News. Following controversy and quick repeal in 1919, World War II brought reinstatement from 1942 through 1945, with the 1966 Uniform Time Act creating uniform dates while permitting state opt-outs. The 2007 schedule of beginning the second Sunday in March and ending the first Sunday in November remains current.

Hawaii and most of Arizona decline participation, maintaining consistent clocks year-round, while American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands maintain permanent standard time, according to NBC News. Most nations implement some variation of "summer time," though not synchronized with American scheduling, with European and North American countries comprising most Northern Hemisphere participants. Approximately one-third of global nations currently observe daylight saving time, according to the Pew Research Center cited by NBC News.

The Senate approved the Sunshine Protection Act in 2022 for permanent year-round daylight saving time, but House advancement stalled, with a January Senate reintroduction similarly failing to progress, NBC News reported. Nearly every state has examined permanent time legislation, with 19 states enacting bills or resolutions over the past seven years, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures cited by NBC News. Federal law prohibits permanent daylight saving time without Congressional approval.

Research indicates year-round daylight saving time could decrease traffic accidents and criminal activity, yet numerous specialists oppose it because solar time dictates the sun should peak at noon, according to sleep researchers cited by NBC News. Sleep specialists favor the alternating clock system, noting morning darkness may elevate cortisol hormones, potentially increasing sleepiness, Dr. Kin Yuen, a sleep medicine specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, and a fellow at the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, explained in 2022, according to NBC News.

Extended evening sunlight during daylight saving time may delay bedtime, potentially postponing melatonin production in the body.
