The move signals Iran's persistent intentions to acquire nuclear capability.

In recent years, the phrase "The Iranians are playing chess, but we are playing backgammon" has become popular in Israel. However, whoever coined this phrase did not pay attention to one detail – Iran's intentions toward Israel and its understanding of the concept of time.

In Iran, time is not a critical or valued resource; therefore, a particular project – whether paving a road or striking Israel – can take decades and never be completed, which also affects Iran's own budget and creates enormous waste (see the water and electricity shortages and inflation).

This causes Iranian intentions to implement a certain plan to become perpetual, and this is true regarding their aspiration to destroy Israel. In the 12-day war, Israel dealt a severe blow (with US assistance) to Iran's nuclear program, but it appears that the intentions to return and achieve a deterrent nuclear capability have not left the minds of Iranian decision-makers. Both before the war and after it, there are generals of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or parliamentary representatives who promise the achievement of nuclear capability that will bring about deterrence of Israel, so that it will not attack Iran and its allies, terrorist organizations, again.

They want to change the religious ruling

A researcher at Iran's Guardian Council – the body responsible for interpreting the constitution and filtering candidates for various elections in Iran, to ensure that no law or person threatens the authority of the leader – went further when he challenged the religious prohibition of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei on the issue of producing, possessing, or using nuclear weapons. In an article in the Council's journal, cleric Alireza Jafarzadeh brought about ten quotes from the Iranian leader from the past 15 years regarding the prohibition to produce nuclear weapons, possess, and even use them – but he found, in the Iranian way, a loophole in the matter of honoring the leader's religious ruling reciprocally.

Alireza claimed in his article that the West and Israel did not honor the leader's religious ruling, which was accepted as a kind of promise to the Obama administration ahead of the 2014-2015 nuclear agreement, and which was the legal basis on the Iranian side for the agreement. Therefore, in his opinion, the time has come for the Iranian regime not to honor the religious ruling itself. Hinting to the leader, he claims that the regime and the nuclear program should be released from the shackles of the religious ruling, and allow those involved to advance the program and achieve deterrent capability – that is, nuclear weapons, according to the verse in the Quran "Prepare for them force as much as you can so that the enemy will be deterred from you." Thus, according to him, specifically achieving nuclear weapons, and not necessarily a religious ruling that ensures non-advancement toward the weapon, will prevent the next war and bring a quieter balance to the entire Middle East.

Indeed, at first glance, this statement seems similar to other Iranian threats about renewed empowerment and even rehabilitation of the nuclear program to the point of achieving the weapon, but the constitutional innovation and the loophole on which the man bases his claim are something new and dangerous that could lead to renewed discussion among Iranian decision-makers. Khamenei, the elderly Iranian leader, may find himself there in the minority against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members, eager to receive budgets to rehabilitate the nuclear program, alongside missile and terror programs (which already receive enormous budgets and are returning almost to the point before the war). This may even grant more power and authority to more radical forces to take control of additional power bases and dictate Iran's future miscalculation against Israel and the US.

The regime has not abandoned its intentions

Decision-makers, and particularly those managing contacts with the American administration on this issue, should pay attention to Iran's "constitutional nuclear crisis," and bring it to President Donald Trump's table. This is a clear example of the Iranian regime not abandoning its intentions of annihilation, even if the capabilities are not visible for the time being in the field. If this internal legitimization among the Iranians regarding a race to nuclear weapons and violation of their promise regarding the prohibition to achieve it succeeds, the day when they return to develop these capabilities with greater intensity will not be far off. As already stated, we have only three years to complete the mission against Iran once and for all. Therefore, we must remember their intentions and discuss them, and not wait again until the 90th minute, because time is somehow working in their favor.

The Islamic Republic of Iran finds itself caught in growing internal turmoil. Alongside critical crises, including an unprecedented water shortage and economic collapse, viral videos emerged this week revealing a rebellion trend against the regime coming straight from within the military and security forces. The public appearance of soldiers and officers supporting the exiled Iranian opposition, combined with the collapse of existential infrastructure, threatens the stability of the ayatollah regime in an unprecedented manner.

The historic flag of Iran – the Lion and Sun flag serving as a symbol for supporters of the exiled Shah and opponents of the regime – is being raised openly in public spaces. In an unusual incident at a Tehran metro station, two Iranian men dressed in military uniforms were filmed waving the historic flag. Raising the flag in a central location like the metro represents a clear act of rebellion against the Islamic Republic, especially when performed by individuals identified with the security system. The viral videos from this event are going viral in Iran.

A colonel-ranked officer (according to Iranian sources, retired), Ebrahim Agai Kumazani, came out publicly in a video against the ayatollah regime. He denounced the Iranian regime as an "unholy and false regime" with no connection to Iran's history or land. He accused the regime of treason, theft, fraud, creating crises, and spreading poverty and crime. The colonel expressed public support for Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi and called on the Iranian people "to rise up" and act to save Iran. The officer presented himself as a "soldier in the people's army."

Hours after Colonel Kumazani's video started circulating on networks, another officer, Colonel Sajjad Azadeh from Iran's ground forces, presented himself in another video as someone reinforcing the move against the regime. He also declared he is "a soldier of Iran's national army, and a soldier of the Lion and Sun flag." He promised that in the coming days "major events are on the way." The colonel announced that soon the rebels "will tear apart the darkness of lies, fraud, and occupation." This officer's joining the open call indicates a division trend permeating to the heart of the security system.

A new video surfaced in recent hours exposing an unprecedented level of defiance – three soldiers dressed in Iranian military uniforms were filmed burning pictures of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, while shouting "Long live the Shah!" and pledging allegiance to the Lion and Sun flag. This act symbolizes deep rebellion and represents support for the national cooperation campaign launched by Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. The campaign encourages mass desertions against the Islamist regime.

In the modern era, the possibility cannot be ignored that the videos circulating in Iran and stirring much unrest are AI videos, perhaps cooked up by a foreign intelligence agency to create unrest in Iran. However, the unrest in Iran is linked to the most severe crisis Iran has faced in recent decades – the water crisis, a truly critical and pressing issue. According to the latest released data, water reserves in Tehran are sufficient for only two weeks, and rare statements were heard from Iran's president about the possibility of "evacuating Tehran within a month." This unprecedented crisis is leading Iran to growing tensions, with the public pointing an accusing finger at the regime and its failed plans.

The possibility that the regime cannot provide water to its residents raises the question: Can a regime that cannot provide a basic existential need survive? As commentators note, a regime feeling the ground shaking beneath its feet might "flee forward" and open an external confrontation or war to try to unite the angry Iranian public around it.

Either way, the lethal combination of internal crises (water and economy) with what appears to be public calls for rebellion from within the military system indicates the Tehran regime stands at a decision point where widespread uprising is no longer a theoretical scenario but a real possibility, strengthening daily.

Iran erupted over the weekend following the murder of a young man named Omid Sarlak (27), just hours after he posted a video online criticizing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Sarlak, a resident of the city of Aligudarz in western Iran, was buried Sunday at a funeral where attendees were recorded shouting, "Death to Khamenei." According to Iranian reports, the young man's body was found on Saturday in his car. Reports added that a weapon was placed beside him.

On Friday, Sarlak posted a video on Instagram in which he burned a photo of Ali Khamenei and recited words spoken by Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi. Pahlavi was Iran's former ruler who was forced to leave the country and died in exile after the Islamic Revolution in 1979. "Death to the clerics. How long poverty, how long humiliation. Now is the time to show yourself, young man, and prove yourself," the young Iranian wrote on Instagram.

Sarlak's family members reported that Iranian regime security forces refused to hand over the body for some time and pressured them to announce that he "committed suicide." In contrast, many Iranian internet users raised the possibility that a force associated with the Revolutionary Guards was behind the young man's murder.

Despite this, the city police commander announced it was a "suicide," after the young man's body was "found" behind a stadium. According to the commander, the young man shot himself with a pistol.

Some Iranian internet users claimed the Revolutionary Guards' intelligence organization arrested Sarlak because of his social media posts. It was further claimed he was actually killed through brutal Revolutionary Guards torture and only then placed in the car.

On the Iran International website, which is identified with the Iranian opposition, they noted that in recent years the Iranian regime has reported "suicide" many times when suspicious death incidents of Iranian citizens occurred.

Iranian propaganda confronts reality in an unprecedented editorial from the Islamic Republic newspaper, which is aligned with the regime and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The article describes Hamas' October 7 attack as a "costly failure" and indirectly acknowledges the severe blows suffered by the entire Iranian axis in the confrontation with Israel. The article, appearing in the daily edition as the editorial, describes the Hamas terror attack as a "failure and costly mistake."

"The truth is, contrary to what many commentators and analysts claim, Operation 'Al-Aqsa Flood' was a mistake. We believed this from the first moments we heard about the operation, and after two years have passed, we are even more convinced of it," the article states.

The article continues and lists the blows suffered by Iran's proxy organizations and claims they sustained damage that "destroys years of diligent and meticulous work. Syria's loss and its withdrawal from the anti-Zionist alliance, as it is swallowed by the US and Israel, is one of the most difficult losses in the past two years and should be seen as direct damage from Operation Al-Aqsa Flood," the article states.

The conservative newspaper also addressed the blows suffered by Hezbollah and the elimination of the organization's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, and connected Israel's achievements to Hamas' decision to launch an attack on southern communities. Regarding Israel's confrontation with Iran in Operation Rising Lion, the article takes a more cautious language and chooses to mention "the heavy losses Israel suffered" alongside describing senior Iranian officials and civilians killed in Israeli strikes in Iran. "The bombing of Iran's nuclear facilities is another disastrous consequence of the war Hamas started," the article states.

Iranian regime-affiliated media platforms and Telegram networks have launched an extraordinary psychological warfare initiative, circulating assassination bounties exceeding $18 million directed at US President Donald Trump. The campaign combines religious edicts with substantial financial incentives, marking what intelligence analysts characterize as a concerning evolution from rhetorical hostility to direct incitement.

The precise bounty amount of $18,341,623 has been distributed across regime-connected channels, labeled as a "donation" for any individual or organization successfully executing the American president. Accompanying materials feature Trump's image overlaid with crimson targeting symbols positioned directly over his forehead, alongside messaging incorporating "eternal blood" and "lasting peace" terminology drawn from jihadist and Shi'ite religious frameworks.

Promotional content accompanying the bounty appeals includes Quranic references urging Muslims to "fight with their wealth and their lives," representing language traditionally employed by extremist clerics to justify martyrdom operations. The religious framing transforms the assassination call from political opposition into what organizers present as a spiritual obligation.

This development follows sustained Iranian setbacks in covert operations against Israel and American interests, including infrastructure strikes targeting Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities and the elimination of key operatives. Western intelligence officials, however, interpret the current bounty campaign as representing a qualitative escalation from symbolic rhetoric toward concrete incitement mechanisms.

A senior ayatollah maintaining close relationships with Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued an explicit fatwa earlier this week demanding Trump's death, characterizing the president as an "enemy of Islam." While Tehran's official governmental apparatus has avoided public endorsement of the bounty initiative, Western intelligence officials warn of genuine threats emanating from regime-adjacent actors operating with calculated deniability.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made his first public appearance on Saturday since Israeli strikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, choosing to reemerge during the Shiite holy day of Ashura. The timing of the event, the most sacred day in the Shiite calendar, and his presence after a period of seclusion that stirred speculation about his health and leadership capabilities.

The 86-year-old Ayatollah, who had been in hiding due to concerns that he might also be targeted by the Israeli Air Force, stepped into the public eye after a full week of silence. His absence had triggered widespread rumors in Iran and abroad regarding his physical condition and ability to govern.

A message from the bunker

A week prior to Saturday's public appearance, Khamenei released a pre-recorded video message in which he hailed what he described as a "victory" over Israel and the US. "I find it appropriate to congratulate the great Iranian nation on its triumph over the false Zionist regime," he declared, claiming that "the Zionist regime was nearly crushed under the blows of the Islamic Republic."

He also dismissed the impact of US and Israeli strikes on Iran's nuclear program, asserting that Washington "gained nothing significant" and suggesting that President Donald Trump had staged a performance for the American public. Khamenei boasted that Iran delivered "a harsh slap" to the US in a missile attack on an American base in Qatar, though the strike had reportedly been coordinated in advance and occurred after the base was evacuated. He warned that Iran would exact "a heavy price" for any future aggression, vowing, "Our country is strong and will never surrender."

Ashura's symbolism

Khamenei's return was staged during Ashura, the annual commemoration of the death of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, at the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE. The historic event has shaped the Shiite community for 1,345 years and became a central day of mourning, during which hundreds of millions of Shiites around the world hold mourning ceremonies.

Ashura mourning rituals often include self-flagellation ceremonies known as tatbir, where some Shiites inflict wounds upon themselves as an expression of grief. Both Khamenei and his predecessor, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, have publicly opposed these extreme displays. Nonetheless, Khamenei's choice to reappear on this specific day carries potent symbolism, casting Iran as the oppressed side in its confrontation with Israel and the US.

Hezbollah hesitates in Lebanon, Yemen's Houthis threaten escalation, Iraq faces mounting tensions, and Hamas calculates its next move. The joint Israeli-American assault on Iran has fundamentally disrupted the terror organizations comprising the "axis of resistance." These groups now await direction from the axis command structure. Put simply, all eyes turn to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei for the critical decision. Yet the leader remains confined to a subterranean bunker. Foreign intelligence reports indicate that communication with him has become extraordinarily complex, conducted exclusively through handwritten messages.

The focal point of current attention centers on Iraq, where roughly 2,500 American military personnel operate from multiple installations, primarily the Ain al-Asad and Al Harir bases near Erbil. The pro-Iranian publication Al-Akhbar cited Baghdad sources confirming that several Shiite paramilitary groups within Iraq have elevated to heightened alert status.

A militia commander revealed, "All logistical and military preparations stand complete for executing precision strikes against American installations pending orders from axis leadership." He emphasized that any retaliation would prove "decisive, devastating, and likely commence within Iraqi territory." The commander insisted that Iraqi militias maintain active participation in strategic decision-making processes. Conversely, Iraqi security analysts have cautioned about the potentially disastrous consequences of direct engagement. These specialists warn that any assault could trigger comprehensive American military action across Iraq. Baghdad's government has transmitted similar warnings to militia groups, urging restraint to prevent Iraq's entanglement in broader regional warfare.

Similarly, Lebanon's administration exerts considerable pressure on Hezbollah to avoid military involvement. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam have publicly stated that Lebanon cannot afford participation in regional confrontation. Hezbollah leadership deliberated for extended periods following the American strikes before ultimately issuing a lengthy condemnation without explicit commitments to military action.

Asharq Al-Awsat sources revealed that Hezbollah leadership believes premature intervention would merely provide Israel with justification for expanded Lebanese operations. The organization calculates that immediate involvement would fail to alter the conflict's trajectory meaningfully. However, a senior Iranian official indicated that Hezbollah would engage should Iran's governmental stability face serious threat.

Nabih Berri, who leads the Shiite Amal movement and serves as parliamentary speaker, represents another influential voice counseling Hezbollah against intervention. Berri recently expressed confidence that Hezbollah would abstain from regional participation. Informed sources emphasized that "no division exists between Amal and Hezbollah regarding solidarity with Iran during this conflict." They clarified that no substantive disagreements separate the organizations, and Berri's statements reflect broader consensus rather than personal opinion.

Within this context, Hezbollah parliamentary representative Hussein Jishi explained this week, "Hezbollah maintains non-neutral status, and the resistance movement will determine how to manifest its position. Hezbollah need not necessarily adopt military postures. Iran possesses adequate self-defense capabilities."

The Houthis announced they are "awaiting Iran's determination." Concurrently, Yemen's Houthis (Ansar Allah) have reiterated previous threats targeting American vessels in Red Sea waters. Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a prominent Yemeni organization official, stated, "Coordination continues with resistance axis partners regarding responses to American aggression, while we await Iran's guidance on response timing."

This constitutes a direct threat to breach the existing American ceasefire arrangement. Agreement violations could restart American coalition operations throughout Yemen. Approximately ten days ago, Israel conducted independent strikes in Sanaa. During that assassination operation, Chief of Staff Mohammed al-Rhamari sustained injuries, though his current condition remains unclear.

Given these circumstances, Arab observers questioned the apparent reduction in Yemeni rocket attacks. Abd al-Thur, an organizational commander, clarified that launches occur exclusively through coordination with the Iranian axis joint command structure. The Houthi leader informed Al-Quds Al-Arabi that "no operational reduction affects Yemen's activities, though these activities manifest only when they meaningfully impact Israel.

"Additionally, Iranian operations maintain high intensity across the complete regional scope. Yemen's contributions will emerge when they achieve significant effect." According to his assessment, "Yemen will maintain its surveillance responsibilities throughout Red Sea maritime traffic, monitoring American and other movements while maintaining readiness to engage any suspicious targets."

Simultaneously, operations against Hamas and additional Gaza-based terror organizations continue. Recent days witnessed Israeli forces eliminating operatives in Jabaliya within the northern sector, plus operations in Rafah and Khan Yunis. Hamas leadership maintains established positions regarding hostage negotiations while closely monitoring Iranian developments. The organization's supporters anticipate that Iranian axis responses will escalate regional conflict sufficiently to relieve pressure on Gaza operations.

After the American strike on Iran's primary nuclear facilities, Israel continues to maintain an active elimination list of senior Revolutionary Guards and military officials within the Islamic Republic.

A disagreement exists between Israel and the United States regarding the effectiveness of eliminating Iranian leader Ali Khamenei. Nevertheless, he remains conscious of the threats against him and, according to The New York Times, has designated three potential successors to avoid a leadership vacuum.

The New York Times correspondent covering Iran, Farnaz Fassihi, posted this morning on X, "Iran's leader Ayatollah Khamenei is in a bunker, all his electronic communication suspended to protect him against assassinations and communication with him is limited and difficult. Until he speaks, Iran's definitive response to U.S. strikes on nuclear sites is not clear."

Ali Shamkhani (Photo: AP)

Ali Shamkhani undoubtedly tops the elimination list. He serves as Khamenei's senior advisor and is characterized by Israel as "the official responsible for the nuclear program." Shamkhani sustained injuries during Israel's initial attack over a week ago. Iranian reports indicate he underwent leg amputation and sustained severe injuries, though his condition has reportedly stabilized.

Last Saturday, prior to the American assault, he posted a multilingual message on X, including Hebrew, declaring, "It was my fate to survive wounded so I remain, still the reason for the enemy's hatred. I'd sacrifice myself a hundred times for Iran. Fighting a nation of hope is a game that ends in ashes for its enemies. Victory, lit by martyrs' smiles, is near."

Abdolrahim Mousavi (Photo: Reuters)

Beyond Shamkhani, Iran's revised military hierarchy faces targeting. At its helm stands Abdolrahim Mousavi, the former army commander designated to succeed the armed forces chief. This morning, he announced, "Throughout history, the Iranian nation has demonstrated that it never capitulates to aggression, instead resisting with maximum strength against the Zionist entity's invasion."

Previously, Mousavi occupied numerous roles, including serving on Iran's Supreme National Security Council and functioning as deputy army commander. Throughout the years, he labeled America "the Great Satan" and expressed that his ultimate aspiration was Israel's destruction.

Mohammad Pakpour (Photo: Arab media)

Replacing General Hussein Salami, Mohammad Pakpour received the appointment, having previously commanded ground forces. He served in the Revolutionary Guards since the Iran-Iraq War era and spent years overseeing the suppression of uprisings in the northwestern region. American sanctions targeted him in 2019.

Mohammad Karimi (Photo: Iranian media)

Mohammad Karimi represents another objective, having been designated ground forces commander. Prior to this appointment, he maintained a rank equivalent to brigadier general. Karimi gained notoriety as the merciless governor of eastern Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province, brutally crushing Baluchi minority demonstrations. This potentially represents Khamenei's strategy for regime stabilization and intimidation of diverse opposition factions.

Following Abdolrahim Mousavi's designation as armed forces commander, Amir Hatami received appointment as army commander. Hatami initiated his Revolutionary Guards involvement through the Basij militia structure for protest suppression. He subsequently joined the army and fulfilled various roles, including deputy chief of staff. His 2017 appointment as defense minister was followed by service as Khamenei's military affairs advisor.

Against the backdrop of the scenario where the US might join the war, US President Donald Trump wrote Tuesday evening on his social media platform Truth Social that he owns, "We know exactly where the so-called "Supreme Leader" is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there. We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now. But we don't want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

Meanwhile, the US military is sending additional fighter jets to the Middle East and extending the deployment of other fighter aircraft to strengthen American military forces in the region during the war between Israel and Iran. Three sources reported this to the American news agency Reuters. One source told the news agency that the deployment includes F-16, F-22, and F-35 fighter jets. Two sources emphasized the defensive nature of the fighter jet deployment.

Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter), "POTUS has been amazingly consistent, over 10 years, that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. Over the last few months, he encouraged his foreign policy team to reach a deal with the Iranians to accomplish this goal. The president has made clear that Iran cannot have uranium enrichment. And he said repeatedly that this would happen one of two ways--the easy way or the "other" way. He may decide he needs to take further action to end Iranian enrichment. That decision ultimately belongs to the president. And of course, people are right to be worried about foreign entanglement after the last 25 years of idiotic foreign policy. But I believe the president has earned some trust on this issue."

Earlier, Donald Trump said he wants a "real end" to the nuclear problem and does not intend to settle for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. In another statement, he said he aims for "unconditional surrender" by Tehran and may send senior officials to meetings with Iranian representatives. Meanwhile, the White House published a series of the president's past tweets, emphasizing that his position has not changed, and the aspiration is to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also sent a threat to Tehran – and stood by Israel in its efforts to damage the nuclear project, stating, "If Tehran does not surrender, complete destruction of its nuclear program is on the table – this is something they cannot do alone."

At Iran's urging, Russian President Vladimir Putin contacted US President Donald Trump to address the intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran, delivering a grave warning to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei that his regime's survival is at stake, Israel Hayom has learned.

Russia has started taking an active role in the diplomatic efforts surrounding the conflict between Iran and Israel. According to information obtained by Israel Hayom, Putin initiated a phone call with his American counterpart, President Trump, at Iran's request.

Following the conversation, in which Trump likely made it clear that he would not restrain Israel, Putin sent a warning to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, stating that his regime is in danger. Putin informed Khamenei of the call's outcomes and advised him to move quickly toward negotiations. Additionally, Putin ordered the evacuation of Russian embassy personnel from Tehran.

Against the backdrop of Putin's warning, US President Donald Trump spoke on Sunday to ABC News, expressing openness to Putin's involvement in mediating between Israel and Iran. "He's ready," Trump said. "He called me about it. We had a long conversation about it."
