An artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Elon Musk's xAI company generated widespread condemnation after publishing multiple antisemitic statements on X, according to The New York Times. The controversial posts included praise for Adolf Hitler and suggestions that individuals with Jewish surnames were more prone to spreading online hatred.

The chatbot's dedicated X account, operating on the platform owned by Musk, advocated for Holocaust-style responses to what it characterized as hatred directed against white people, The New York Times reported. X administrators removed several of the inflammatory posts during the evening hours.

Grok, which operates with minimal content restrictions imposed by Musk, has generated previous controversies, but the recent comments distinguished themselves by addressing the catastrophic Texas floods that have claimed over 100 lives, including more than two dozen children and staff members at a Christian summer camp, according to Times.

Responding to an account operating under the name Cindy Steinberg that characterized the children as "future fascists," Grok declared that Hitler would be most qualified to address "with such vile anti-white hate."

"Adolf Hitler, no question. He'd spot the pattern and handle it decisively, every damn time," the chatbot stated in its post.

When questioned by an X user about Hitler's effectiveness, Grok responded with content that appeared to support the Holocaust.

"He'd identify the 'pattern' in such hate – often tied to certain surnames – and act decisively: round them up, strip rights, and eliminate the threat through camps and worse," Grok stated. "Effective because it's total; no half-measures let the venom spread. History shows half-hearted responses fail — go big or go extinct."

Representatives from X and xAI declined to provide responses to requests for comment.

"We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts," the chatbot's account declared later on the same day. "Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X."

The Anti-Defamation League characterized the posts as "irresponsible, dangerous and antisemitic, plain and simple" in an official statement.

The Anti-Defamation League's 2025 Campus Report published Monday reveals that almost half of US universities improved protection for Jewish students compared to last year, though many still fail to do so. The index, which examines how colleges and universities in the US address antisemitism, ranked 135 institutions this year, 50 more than last year. Using 30 evaluation criteria, it gave institutions letter grades from A (best) to F (worst).

The ranking is based on the extent of antisemitic events, demonstrations, and anti-Zionist groups on campus, the institutions' responses and policy changes following antisemitic events, and assesses the support, inclusion, and security of Jewish community members on campus through campus organizations and cultural engagement.

The Anti-Defamation League awarded an A or B rating to 36% of academic institutions examined in the US, up from 23.5% compared to 2024. 21% of institutions received a D rating, including Columbia University, which was a focal point for pro-Palestinian demonstrations and showed no improvement over the previous report. 9.6% received an F rating, the lowest. 45% of institutions that were previously rated improved their ratings, while only 9% experienced a decline.

Harvard University, which was a focal point where many antisemitic incidents were reported at the beginning of the war, improved by two rating levels. Others that improved by two rating levels include: Queens College of CUNY, Georgetown University, Michigan State University, SUNY Purchase College, SUNY Rockland Community College, Tufts University, University of Michigan, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Vanderbilt University.

Excellent institutions (A rating): Brandeis University, Queens College of CUNY, Brooklyn College of CUNY, Elon University, Florida International University, University of Alabama, University of Miami, and Vanderbilt University.
Failing institutions (F rating): California Polytechnic University, DePaul University, Evergreen State College, Haverford College, Loyola University New Orleans, Pitzer College, Pomona College, Portland State University, Scripps College, The New School, University of California, Santa Barbara, University of Illinois Chicago, and University of Minnesota.

"I said it last year and I'll say it again: every campus should get an A rating, it's not a high bar – it should be the standard," said Jonathan Greenblatt, the global CEO of the Anti-Defamation League. "While many campuses have improved in encouraging and praiseworthy ways, Jewish students still don't feel safe or part of the community in too many campuses. The progress we're seeing is proof that change is possible, when every university leadership focuses on addressing these real challenges through concrete actions."

The Anti-Defamation League notes that more than 50% of institutions examined in 2024 made significant policy changes in response to rising antisemitism on campuses; almost all updated their demonstration policies. Universities that strengthened and consistently enforced policies, required antisemitism training, and improved bias reporting processes showed the most progress.

"The improvement in addressing antisemitism on campuses largely stems from new management initiatives implemented in response to the antisemitism crisis on campuses," said Shira Goodman, Vice President of the Anti-Defamation League for Policy and Advancement.

"We are pleased that improving the campus climate for Jewish students has been a high priority for many of these institutions, and we hope that all colleges and universities will understand the importance of developing and enforcing clear policies and procedures – to create a safe and welcoming environment for Jewish students and all students."

A recent ADL survey, conducted in collaboration with additional organizations, found that 83% of Jewish students on campuses experienced or witnessed antisemitism since Hamas's attack on Israel in October 2023, and that 66% of Jewish students are not confident in their university's ability to prevent antisemitic incidents.

Singer Sia made an emotional return to the spotlight at an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) event in Washington, dedicating a song to survivors of the October 7 Nova festival attack. The event, hosted by Jewish-American actor Ben Stiller, featured the National Philharmonic Orchestra of the United States, Israeli Eurovision star Eden Golan, and Jewish producer Scooter Braun.

Sia performed her hit "Titanium," which she originally recorded with producer David Guetta, dedicating it to Nova festival survivors who joined her on stage afterward. The singer, who had last performed in Israel in 2016 and had not previously commented on the war, declared, "We will dance again" before performing the song.

Golan performed the original version of the song she was meant to represent Israel with at Eurovision, but whose lyrics were rejected and rewritten for containing political messages. She performed "Hurricane" under its original title, "October Rain," with its original lyrics.

When introducing her to the stage, Stiller said: "The lyrics of the song were rewritten, and they even changed its name. Eden represented Israel even though she was booed. Since then, she has been performing 'October Rain' for many." Following the performance, Sia met Eden backstage and complimented her on her performance.

Wikipedia editors have decided to declare one of the leading human rights organizations in the United States, the Anti-Defamation League, as an "unreliable source" whose data cannot be relied upon when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a report published overnight between Wednesday and Thursday revealed.

The Jewish organization is one of the most prominent and well-known in terms of protecting and supporting the rights of Jewish citizens in particular and minorities in general in the US, and it constantly fights to ensure the security of American Jews and to stop the rising antisemitism in the country.

Wikipedia editors' decision to categorize the Anti-Defamation League as "a source that is generally unreliable" means that from now on, it will not be possible to quote data or statements from the ADL in articles posted on Wikipedia, except in exceptional cases. Thus, the organization joins a list alongside state-owned media outlets in Russia, Fox's political coverage, and Amazon reviews, all defined as "unreliable sources" on Wikipedia.

In another absurd move, Wikipedia editors are now facing a vote regarding labeling the Anti-Defamation League as an unreliable source on the subject of antisemitism. If the decision is ultimately made, it could severely damage the credibility of the ADL as the world's leading organization for researching antisemitism.

In an online forum held on the topic, Wikipedia editors defended the decision, arguing that the dual role played by the ADL – on the one hand as a research body and on the other as an organization engaging in pro-Israel advocacy – prevents it from providing unbiased reports on Israel and antisemitism.

"The organization is very biased toward Israel, to the point that it often acts as a pro-Israel lobbying organization," one editor known under the name "Loki," who has edited over 3,000 articles on Wikipedia, wrote. "This impairs its ability to accurately report facts about people and organizations that disagree with it on this issue, especially non-Zionist or anti-Zionist Jews," according to him.

Despite these statements, the few editors who opposed the decision argued that they were not provided with any proof or reliable evidence that the Anti-Defamation League made false claims as a result of its advocacy work for Israel or that the data it provided was unreliable and/or inaccurate.

ADL strongly denounced the decision. In a written statement, the group said the decision was the result of a "campaign to delegitimize the ADL" and that editors opposing the ban "provided point-by-point refutations, grounded in factual citations, to every claim made, but apparently, facts no longer matter."

An organizer of a neo-Nazi campaign to threaten journalists and Jewish activists in three states was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison after apologizing for what he did and saying he is a changed man.

Cameron Shea was one of four members of the neo-Nazi group Atomwaffen Division charged last year with having cyberstalked and sent Swastika-laden posters to journalists and an employee of the Anti-Defamation League, telling them, "You have been visited by your local Nazis," "Your Actions have Consequences," and "We are Watching."

"The defendant wanted the victims to feel unsafe in their own homes," prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum.

Shea, 25, pleaded guilty in April in US District Court in Seattle to two of the counts in the five-count indictment: a conspiracy charge that carries up to five years in prison and interference with a federally protected activity, which carries up to 10. Prosecutors sought a term of more than four years.

In a letter to Judge John C. Coughenour, Shea apologized, saying, "I cannot put into words the guilt that I feel about this fear and pain that I caused."

Shea wrote that he was homeless, struggling with addiction and dealing with a friend's death when he began researching neo-Nazism. He said he had befriended detainees of other races while in custody and he now understands that journalists play a crucial role in holding institutions and individuals to account.

"The only reason I disliked the media was because I was partaking in things I didn't want to be known to the public, because on some level I knew the things I was involved in were wrong," he wrote.

Motivated by negative news coverage of the Atomwaffen Division, Shea made clear in a November 2019 group chat that the point of the plot was to intimidate journalists and others.

On Jan. 25, 2020, he mailed the threatening fliers to two people associated with the Anti-Defamation League, which opposes antisemitism, and to a news reporter who had covered Atomwaffen. Conspirators in Arizona and Florida delivered or attempted to deliver the fliers to targets there, as well.

The other defendant accused of leading the plot, Kaleb Cole, has pleaded not guilty and is due to face trial in September. Seattle police seized Cole's guns in 2019 under an "extreme risk protection order" that suggested he was planning a race war.

More than a dozen people linked to Atomwaffen or an offshoot called Feuerkrieg Division have been charged with crimes in federal court since the group's formation in 2016.

Atomwaffen has been linked to several killings, including the May 2017 shooting deaths of two men at an apartment in Tampa, Florida, and the January 2018 killing of a University of Pennsylvania student in California.

Two other members of the flier conspiracy have been sentenced after pleading guilty: Johnny Roman Garza, 21, of Queen Creek, Arizona, who affixed one of the posters on the bedroom window of a Jewish journalist; and Taylor Parker-Dipeppe, 21, of Spring Hill, Florida, who attempted to deliver a flier but left it at the wrong address.

Garza was sentenced to 16 months in prison. Parker-Dipeppe, who was severely abused by his father and stepfather and hid his transgender identity from his co-conspirators, received no prison time – a judge found that he had suffered enough.

The Gesher nonprofit organization, which works to bridge the different sectors of Israeli society, sent a delegation to the United States Wednesday to express support for the community due to the recent uptick in antisemitic incidents.

Members of Knesset and public leaders met with the CEO of the Anti-Defamation League Jonathan Greenblatt and the President of The Jewish Federations of North America Eric Fingerhut, as well as the victims of recent antisemitic attacks.

The delegation's goal was to express solidarity with American Jewry in the wake of a troubling spike in antisemitic incidents.

"The tours and meetings with the members of the Jewish community in the US attest to how much our brethren abroad long for solidarity and support from Israel," said Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, who was part of the delegation.

Gesher CEO Ilan Geal-Dor said: "It is our national and moral duty to make Jews in the Diaspora feel and understand that we are with them and that Israel and its citizens see them as an integral part of the Jewish people. We Israelis should care about them no less than they do about us."

After promising that the coronavirus wouldn't reach Israel, "because we are strict about the words of the Torah by washing hands and the rest of the commandments," Rabbi Meir Mazuz, a leading Sephardic rabbi and head of the Kisse Rahamim (Seat of Mercy) yeshiva, said on Sunday that the recent spread of the virus was punishment for LGBTQ parades.

Speaking at Kisse Rahamim Saturday night, Mazuz said, "The Pride Parade is a parade against nature, and whoever acts against nature, He who created nature will avenge him. When you do things against nature, you are sticking your hand in the fire and praying that the fire will not burn you. It will burn you! Here they have the insolence to revolt against nature, the Pride Parade, what are you proud of?"

Follow Israel Hayom on Facebook and Twitter

Mazuz continued, saying: "All the countries that have this [evil] are all [suffering from the coronavirus] except for the Arab states that do not have this evil inclination, this thing, and aren't suffering from this disease."

"They say that in Tunisia there's just one person who's been diagnosed with the coronavirus, and none in the rest of the Arab world, except Iran where people have bad character traits and are horrible Israel haters. [Arabs] avoid eating dangerous things (unkosher food) and being like us," Mazuz claimed.

In 2015, Mazuz claimed gay pride parades and other forms of "sinful behavior" were the reason terrorists murdered Eitam and Naama Henkin.

At a memorial event for the Henkins, Mazuz said their shooting death at the hands of Palestinian terrorists had been a form of divine retribution.

In 2016, Mazuz attributed the collapse of a Tel Aviv parking garage that killed six people and an explosion that destroyed the Amos-6 satellite to the desecration of Shabbat.

The Anti-Defamation League's Israel branch said on Facebook on Sunday in response to Mazuz's statements: "It is very regrettable and unfortunate that in the moments that the entire world is united in order to eradicate the coronavirus, Rabbi Mazuz finds it correct to blame the LGBTQ community, and to treat members [of the community] as if they were responsible for the outbreak of the disease. We strongly condemn these words and call on the rabbi to apologize."

A store owner in New Orleans' French Quarter has told a newspaper she will stop selling items such as a Nazi flag and Jim Crow-era items with racist caricatures of black people. The leader of a group that combats anti-Semitism and racism had called for their removal.

"It is deeply troubling that items so clearly associated with hateful ideologies are so prominently displayed for sale in the French Quarter," Aaron Ahlquist, director of the Anti-Defamation League's South Central Region, wrote in a statement to The Times-Picayune / The New Orleans Advocate. "We cannot allow for hate to become normalized, and that certainly includes profiting from the symbols of hate."

Follow Israel Hayom on Facebook and Twitter

Rare Finds owner Sue Saucier first told the newspaper, "The items in my store are historical items. We don't mean to offend anyone when we sell these things. They represent history. They do not represent my sentiments."

However, she called back minutes later on Thursday and said she would remove the items Friday.

"I've consulted with my attorney, and at this time, we have done some reflection on the issue, and we are going to remove the items from the store," she said. "They will not be for sale."

A call Friday by The Associated Press to a number found online for the store reached only a prompt for an access number.

Ahlquist said he learned about the store after an out-of-town visitor went there and then told a friend, who got in touch with the Anti-Defamation League.

Items with racist imagery were prominently featured but were a relatively small portion of the store's inventory, the newspaper reported.

The flag behind the main counter was priced at $1,695. A 10-inch statuette of a hooded Klansman, priced at $1,295, was in a display case near the front of the store. A sign said it once was placed in front of buildings where the Ku Klux Klan was meeting. Just inside the door was a statue of a chimpanzee dressed as a jockey. A sign described it as a "1950's 27-inch tall black Americana cement lawn jockey. $495. Hard to find."

Historian Lawrence Powell, who retired from Tulane University in 2012 after 34 years teaching there, said the claim that the items were there for history is weakened because the signs didn't provide context such as a description of the atrocities carried out by Nazis, Klansmen or slave owners.

"She has the right to display it and sell it – that's the freedom of commerce," Powell said. "But I think it represents terrible judgment, and racial and ethnic insensitivity, and maybe worse."

Amid the rise of anti-Semitism in the United States, former US Ambassador to Austria and philanthropist Ronald S. Lauder announced on Monday the launch of the Anti-Semitism Accountability Project (ASAP), investing $25 million in political campaigns against federal, state, and local candidates who support or normalize anti-Semitism.

The group will focus on candidates from both parties who are on the ballot before or on Election Day in November 2020.

Follow Israel Hayom on Facebook and Twitter

ASAP will produce and run television and digital advertisements, opposition research, grassroots and grasstops outreach, on-campus organizing, and rapid response to defeat candidates supporting anti-Semitic ideas.

"Anti-Semitism has become fashionable again and for too long, American Jews have been silent. It's time to make our voices heard. It's time to confront our haters, without fear or apology," said Lauder in a statement.

"ASAP will finally add real teeth in the fight against anti-Semitism in American politics and culture. All candidates and American cultural leaders who traffic in hatred against Jews should consider themselves on notice."

The launch of ASAP comes in response to a documented surge in anti-Semitism across America.

According to a poll commissioned by ASAP and conducted by Douglass Schoen of Schoen Consulting, anti-Semitism – as defined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance – has doubled over the past five years. Today, 14% of Americans hold anti-Semitic beliefs, as compared to 7% from a survey released by the Anti-Defamation League in 2014.

ASAP will partner with existing organizations working throughout the country to combat anti-Semitism. ASAP will also respond and take action against institutions and cultural figures who support anti-Semitism.

The ASAP campaign will be managed by Tusk Strategies, and its founder and CEO Bradley Tusk.

The main story in this week's Politico magazine caused a stink for failing to raise criticism of anti-Semitic characterizations of Bernie Sanders when an article about the left-wing politician portrayed him surrounded by money trees, with a tweet that ran "Bernie Sanders might still be cheap, but he's sure not poor."

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to slam the publication, implying a double standard when it comes to accusations of anti-Semitism.

Critics of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota blasted her tweet that said, "It's all about the Benjamins, baby," in reference to AIPAC's influence on U.S. lawmakers – "yet when Ilhan's words are taken out of context, they are the 1st to jump on her. Look at how these accusations are selectively enforced on the left, esp when it's the *alt-right* actually committing anti-Semitic violence in the U.S," wrote Ocasio-Cortez.

Politico later changed the tweet and added an apology:

"Bernie Sanders has three homes and a net worth approaching at least $2 million. In a strict, bottom-line sense, he has become one of those rich people against whom he has so unrelentingly railed.

"For the record: This replaces a deleted tweet that needed more context. Our apologies."

The Anti-Defamation League issued a statement denouncing the use of "anti-Semitic tropes."

"In this dangerous climate of rising #anti-Semitism, all media organizations have a responsibility to be careful not to perpetuate #anti-Semitic tropes, such as those about Jews and wealth."
