By 1956 he obtained legal papers under his real name while authorities knew his identity yet failed to arrest him, according to Fox News. The files detail protection networks, bureaucratic failures, and missed opportunities that allowed Mengele to flee first to Paraguay and then Brazil, where he died in 1979.

Archives declassified by President Javier Milei this year contain an entire volume dedicated to tracking SS physician Josef Mengele – the Auschwitz "Angel of Death" – as he lived openly in Argentina, Fox News reported

By 1956 Mengele felt secure enough to request his official records be changed to his real name after obtaining a certified birth certificate from West Germany's embassy, Fox News reported. Authorities already possessed extensive knowledge of his residence, family, and business dealings – including possible financial help from his father – yet took no meaningful action, according to Fox News.

West Germany's 1959 extradition request was dismissed by an Argentine judge as based on "political persecution," Fox News stated. Fragmented intelligence, poor inter-agency communication, and frequent delays allowed Mengele to escape to Paraguay when pressure finally mounted, the outlet added.

A confidential 1960 memo still sought him and his former pharmaceutical partnership long after departure, Fox News disclosed. "I bring to the knowledge of the585 Chief that from the investigations carried out in order to fulfill the referenced OB, it follows that JOSÉ MENGELE, served as a partner of the medical laboratories 'FADRO-FARM' located at Drysdale 3573 Street, in Carapachay, District of Vicente López, and with offices, since July of this year, at Cramer 860 Street, Capital. The subject, listed as a medical doctor, was entered into the firm on July 10, 1958, as a contributing partner of $10,000 pesos in capital, and withdrew from the partnership in April of 1959," the report stated.

When formally reverting to his true identity, Mengele offered nervous justifications that revealed his SS past, according to Fox News. "Since entering Argentina, the subject resided on the property of the Mengeles, using the name of Dr. GREGOR […], the subject manifested that he had arrived in Argentina using a different name and distinct from his profession […]. Thus, it appears that, while maintaining his real name, the subject belonged to the SS Society […] during which time he demonstrated being nervous, having stated that during the war he acted as a physician in the German SS, in Czechoslovakia, where the Red Cross labeled him a 'war criminal.' He had studied Anthropology and was known to the Justice in the courts of Nuremberg, especially regarding the study of skulls and bones, but that union was considered a crime in National Socialist Germany," the report states about Mengele when, in the course of changing his name from his fake alias to his real identity, the Nazi "explained" his motives for originally not using his real identity, it said.

Notorious for deadly experiments on twins and others, Mengele operated with chilling impunity, according to Fox News. Survivor testimony preserved in the files describes his sadistic methods in graphic detail, Fox News disclosed. "I met Mengele. I knew him well. I saw him many times in the Auschwitz camp, with his SS colonel's uniform and, on top of it, the white doctor's coat," says José Furmanski, a Polish-born twin who encountered him repeatedly.

Furmanski recalled the fatal experiments carried out on pairs of all ages, Fox News noted. "He gathered twins of all ages in the camp and subjected them to experiments that always ended in death. Between the children, the elderly, and women… what horrors. I saw him separate a mother from her daughter and send one to certain death. We will never forget," Furmanski said.

Protected later by Paraguay's Stroessner regime and then by Nazi sympathizers in Brazil, Mengele lived out his final years on rural estates, Fox News reported. He died of a stroke while swimming in 1979 and was buried under an assumed name until identification in 1985, with DNA confirmation arriving in 1992.

A 10-year-old student is hospitalized in intensive care at Juan P. Garrahan Hospital in Buenos Aires after suffering critical injuries from an explosion during a science fair at Ranquegua Commercial Institute, approximately 9 miles from the city of Pergamino. According to a hospital statement, the girl is in critical condition and on a ventilator. Sixteen other people, students and teachers, were injured in the incident, most of them students, with varying degrees of severity. One teacher, aged 45, who was hit in the arm and face, underwent two surgeries at San Felipe Hospital in San Nicolas and is in stable condition.

The incident occurred on Thursday when a group of students presented an experiment simulating a volcanic eruption. The experiment was designed to function as a light-and-sound stunt, but the fire spread rapidly and caused an explosion, which scattered burning fragments in all directions. The girl, who was sitting in the front row, suffered a direct hit to her face. She was initially rushed to San Jose Hospital in Pergamino, and from there was transported by helicopter to the hospital due to concern about loss of vision and brain damage. Pergamino Mayor Javier Martins stated that "something pierced her, and the injury reached the brain. She is in serious condition, unconscious and on a ventilator."

In a video documenting the moments of the explosion, a student is heard explaining that the volcano included two metal tubes with sulfur, coal, and "special salts" – components almost identical to those that make up gunpowder. The investigation now focuses on whether flammable materials were used negligently. District Attorney Fernando Perteira noted that examinations were opened and documents from the incident were confiscated. According to him, it must be examined whether there was negligence on the part of the chemistry teacher, despite the fact that safety measures were in place at the school, such as the presence of rescue teams on site.

Argentine President Javier Milei came under attack with stones on Wednesday evening while heading to a party gathering in Buenos Aires Province, ahead of local and legislative elections. Milei escaped unharmed, though security personnel were compelled to rapidly evacuate him from the scene.

The confrontation unfolded in Lomas de Zamora, south of Buenos Aires – a historic bastion of the Peronist movement representing the primary opposition to Milei. The president was standing in an open pickup vehicle alongside his sister, Karina, and his chief of staff, as crowds started hurling rocks, bottles, and assorted items toward them. At the same time, clashes erupted between his backers and detractors, with cries of "Out Milei" audible throughout.

At the very least, one rock struck the truck's hood, as additional projectiles passed over Milei and the security staff members. The president had to rapidly crouch inside the truck, and the driver sped up, attempting to flee – interrupting the scheduled campaign gathering. During the turmoil, Congressman José Luis Espert was observed escaping on a motorcycle without wearing a helmet.

Trading blame

Presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni blamed backers of former president Cristina Kirchner for the assault, labeling the protesters "militants from outdated politics" displaying "a primitive violence pattern from bygone eras." Security Minister Patricia Bullrich alleged Kirchner's faction "coordinated an assault on the president while jeopardizing the citizens and households who arrived to support him."

Kirchner, found guilty of corruption in June and currently under home confinement, remains regarded as the most powerful figure within the anti-Milei opposition, even though she has been excluded from political activities.

Assault emerges during corruption claims

The accusations risk implicating the president's closest associates. In an audio leak from the previous week, the director of the disability support agency is allegedly heard detailing a kickback scheme that allegedly benefits Milei's sister, Karina, and her consultant. The supposed scheme made the agency's service provision contingent upon payments to a drug firm, which channeled portions of earnings to Milei's family members.

Following this, Diego Spangouolo was dismissed, the agency director and Milei's former attorney, who was allegedly recorded alerting the president to the kickback operation emerging within his administration.

Milei, who managed to drastically lower inflation levels, is gearing up for legislative midterm votes coming in October. He aims to bolster his strength in both parliamentary chambers in what is viewed as the initial ballot box challenge of his transformative administration.

The present controversy may especially harm the president, who gained office riding widespread outrage over graft within Argentina's political class, combined with difficult sentiments from segments of citizens affected by his stringent fiscal policies.

Milei posted subsequently, including an image of the rock aimed at him: "Civilization or barbarism, never again Kirchnerism. The end."

Argentine prosecutor Sebastián Basso requested an arrest warrant for Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei for his alleged involvement in the 1994 bombing of the Argentinian Israeli Mutual Association (AIMA) building, the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, the Argentine newspaper Clarín reported Wednesday. Basso asked Interpol to pursue Khamenei's arrest and instructed Argentine police to detain him if he visits the country. The prosecutor claims Khamenei "led the decision to carry out the attack in Buenos Aires in July 1994 and issued the 'fatwa' calling for its execution."

Basso argues that Khamenei is "the main supporter of groups like Hezbollah" and personally appointed "Hezbollah's secretary-general as his representative in Lebanon." The prosecutor bases his case on the Iranian constitution, which establishes Khamenei as responsible for setting state policy and serving as the supreme commander of Iran's armed forces with control over intelligence operations – which an Argentine court previously determined were involved in executing the attacks.

Regarding Khamenei's immunity as a head of state, Basso claims that "Khamenei does not have immunity from responsibility for a crime with terrorist characteristics and against humanity."

It should be noted that the previous prosecutor on the case, Alberto Nisman, was murdered in 2015 before he was due to testify to Congress about the cover-up of Iran's involvement in the attack. The New York Times reported that Nisman had prepared arrest warrants against then-Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, accusing her of reaching an agreement with Iranian authorities to cover up Iranian involvement in the attacks.

The bombing of the AMIA Jewish community building in Argentina was a suicide attack that occurred in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, on July 18, 1994, when a Lebanese terrorist detonated an explosive planted in a car bomb, killing 85 people and wounding 330. Two years earlier, an attack against the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires killed 29 people and injured 220. Hezbollah attributed the attacks to revenge for the assassination of the organization's then-secretary-general, Abbas Musawi.

The Buenos Aires city council announced on Sunday its intention to rename Palestine Street, one of the city's oldest thoroughfares, to Bibas Family Street.

The decision came through a personal initiative by President Javier Milei after learning of the murder of Shiri Bibas and her two young children, Ariel and Kfir, in Hamas captivity. "This is a symbolic step expressing Argentina's clear moral stance," Milei said in an official statement from the presidential office.

The street renaming represents one of the highlights in a series of measures taken by the Argentine government in support of Israel since the October 7 terror attack. Immediately upon learning of the murder of the Bibas family members, President Milei declared two days of national mourning, an unprecedented step demonstrating the nation's deep solidarity with the tragedy.

In his recent speech at CPAC in Washington, Milei addressed Hamas' actions with exceptional severity. He described the October 7 attack as a "cowardly act" and defined the murder of the mother and her two children as an "immoral and shocking act." The Argentine president also harshly condemned the "barbaric act" of displaying coffins before a crowd with no respect for the deceased.

As part of the expressions of solidarity, numerous public buildings across Argentina were illuminated in orange, including the famous Obelisk in Buenos Aires. This gesture joined similar demonstrations worldwide, including the illumination of the Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro, the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco, and foreign ministry buildings in various countries.

President Milei sent his personal condolences to Yarden Bibas, the family's father, who was recently released from Hamas captivity after 484 days. The official statement from the presidential office read: "It is monstrous that these events occurred in this century and that their deaths stemmed from one motive: being Jewish."

The decision to rename the street joins a series of diplomatic and practical steps taken by Argentina in support of Israel, with Milei becoming one of the world's most prominent leaders in his unequivocal support for the State of Israel and its fight against terrorism.

Argentina was poised to declare a national day of mourning for Kfir and Ariel Bibas, the two young brothers with dual Israeli-Argentine citizenship who were to be handed over to Israel Thursday following their apparent murder in Hamas captivity. They were to be handed over along with another fallen hostage, Oded Lifshitz.

"I am informed by the government that they will wait for official information on the DNA results of the bodies and that, if confirmed, Argentina will then declare a National Day of Mourning in their honour, " President of the Argentinian Commission for Human Rights Sabrina Ajmeche, revealed the planned move on Wednesday.

"Two Argentinian babies assassinated because of Hamas terrorism," she wrote. "I hope that never again, after this, I have to hear that what happens in Israel and Gaza is not our concern, of all Argentines."

The brothers – Kfir, aged 1.5 years, and Ariel, aged 5 – were taken hostage from Nir-Oz during Hamas's October 7 attack along with their parents, Yarden and Shiri Bibas. Yarden was released recently as part of the implementation of the ongoing hostage deal with Hamas.

The brothers held Argentine citizenship through their father Yarden Bibas, who was recently released from captivity. "A huge hug to the Bibas family. Today, all Argentines are with you," Ajmechet added in her statement.

President Javier Milei's administration has maintained strong support for Israel throughout the conflict. The Argentine leader has visited Israel multiple times since October 7 and issued forceful condemnations of the attack. In a December 2024 letter, Milei wrote, "Silence is complicity, and it compels us to condemn the brutal and cowardly terrorist attack of October 7." On Wednesday, the Argentinian ambassador to Israel Axel Wahnish wrote on X : "Shiri, Ariel and Kfir Bibas: EVERYONE IS THINKING ABOUT YOU. We are going through one of the most sensitive and tragic moments since that fateful Oct. 7. We accompany and support family members."

On Wednesday, an account that might be associated with Milei posted on X an image showing Shiri, Kfir and Ariel with the caption: "Blessed be their memories" and "Blessed is the True Judge. These phrases are traditionally said in Jewish mourning to acknowledge God's judgment

The president's office has not issued additional comments regarding the national day of mourning at this time.

In an unprecedented diplomatic gesture that underscores growing ties between Argentina and Judaism, President Javier Milei orchestrated a historic swearing-in ceremony for his new Foreign Minister Gerardo Wertheim using a Torah scroll, while delivering an unexpected biblical commentary about Abraham's divine mission.

The extraordinary ceremony, which took place at the Argentine Parliament, marked a significant departure from traditional state protocols. The event gained particular attention following Milei's decision to replace former minister Diana Mondino, who had voted to support lifting US economic sanctions against Cuba.

"Today, we've departed from conventional format by conducting the oath on the Torah, making it particularly fitting to discuss this week's portion, Lech Lecha," Milei told the assembled dignitaries. "It's fascinating to consider what this portion teaches us, what messages are being sent to you from above, Gerardo."

The president, who has previously declared his deep affinity for Israel with statements such as "I want to be like Israel" and "I stand with Israel in the war against forces of darkness," drew parallels between the biblical narrative and contemporary diplomacy. "The portion speaks about Abraham's journeys throughout the world, as he decides to spread the Creator's messages. The Almighty tells Abraham that his role is to influence the nations of the world and places upon him the important responsibility of conveying Torah's messages of life and liberty to the entire world," he explained.

The ceremonial oath itself carried profound significance. "Mr. Gerardo Wertheim, do you swear by God and the homeland and on the Torah to faithfully and devotedly fulfill the role of Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Religion?" Milei asked, adding after Wertheim's affirmation, "If you do not do this, God and the nation will demand it of you."

Since assuming the presidency, Milei has demonstrated an unprecedented embrace of Jewish traditions and support for Israel. He maintains regular consultations with a rabbi, studies biblical texts, and has established himself as a strong advocate of the Chabad movement. His first international visit as president was to Israel, where he demonstrated emotional solidarity at the Western Wall, announced plans to relocate Argentina's embassy to Jerusalem, and repeatedly affirmed his commitment to Israel's security.

the Ina Lotte, a ship hoisting a Liberian flag traveling on the Paraná River near Rosario, Argentina, was isolated after a crew member showed symptoms compatible with monkeypox (mpox).

The ship was quarantined at the San Lorenzo port. Argentine health authorities activated the protocol while awaiting test results for the symptomatic crew member.

According to reports, the affected crew member's test results later confirmed signs of monkeypox.

Argentina confirmed eight cases of mpox so far. The infected crew member is reportedly in the early stages of the virus, and not exhibiting visible symptoms yet.

Monkeypox is an infectious disease transmitted through close contact, causing painful rash and fever, primarily found in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The isolation of the ship due to monkeypox differs from COVID-19 protocols, as monkeypox spreads through direct contact, not respiratory droplets like COVID-19.

The World Health Organization has declared mpox a global public health emergency, as a new variant is spreading rapidly in Africa.

The WHO urged pharmaceutical companies to ramp up vaccine production to halt the spread of the new strain. Two recommended vaccines are MVA-BN from Bavarian Nordic and LC16 from Japan. More doses could be available by 2025 with sufficient commitment and demand.

Former Argentine President Alberto Fernández faces multiple allegations of violence against ex-wife Fabiola Yáñez, including physical and psychological abuse. Yáñez filed a formal complaint revealing disturbing details of Fernández's behavior towards her. Evidence is expected to include WhatsApp messages and testimonies.

Investigations are ongoing into potential misconduct, abuse of power, and ethical violations by Fernández and his security detail in covering up the alleged violence against Yáñez.

The former president is also facing claims regarding an out of marriage relationship with a flight attendant while in office, and possible use of public funds for sexual favors.

The scandal is rocking Argentina's Peronist party.

Political analyst Jaime Durán Barba discussed the crisis, suggesting power often destroys relationships due to the avalanche of commitments and responsibilities, and that politics is inherently anti-family.

Argentina's Jewish community commemorated Thursday the 30th anniversary of a targeted bombing which killed 85 people, with President Javier Milei promising to right decades of inaction and inconsistencies in the investigations into the attack.

In 1994, a bomb-filled van hit the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, becoming the deadliest such incident in the nation's history.

"Today we chose to speak out, not stay silent," Milei said in an address on Wednesday evening. "We're raising our voice, not folding our arms. We choose life, because anything else is making a game out of death."

In April, Argentina's top criminal court blamed Iran for the attack, saying it was carried out by Hezbollah militants responding to "a political and strategic design" by Iran.

Tehran has denied involvement and refused to turn over suspects, and previous investigations and Interpol arrest warrants have led nowhere.

Milei – a staunch proponent of both the Jewish community and of Israel – said on Wednesday he would propose a bill which would allow for the trial of the suspects in the attack in absentia.

He also said that his government would beef up the national intelligence system to prevent similar attacks from occurring again, while dedicating further resources into investigating the AMIA incident.

Argentine prosecutors have charged top Iranian officials and members of Iran-backed Lebanese armed group Hezbollah with ordering the bombing, as well as an attack in 1992 against the Israeli embassy in Argentina, which killed 22 people.

"Although they may never be able to serve a sentence, they will not be able to escape the eternal condemnation of a court proving their guilt in front of the whole world," Milei said.

The president called the April decision an "enormous step" in seeking justice in the AMIA case, he said that there was much more to go due to the "cover up by the terrorist state of Iran."

Last week, Milei declared Iran-backed militant Islamist group Hamas a terrorist organization for its Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

The president on Wednesday compared the attack on Israel with the 1994 bombing in Buenos Aires and demanded that Hamas release all of the hostages it had claimed, including eight Argentines.
