A military court at the Ofer detention facility has convicted the terrorist who murdered Ari Fuld, an American Israeli, on a charge of voluntary manslaughter, which is considered the equivalent of murder.

On Sept. 16, 2018, Fuld arrived at the shopping center at Gush Etzion junction and was attacked by a 16-year-old who stabbed him in the back. Fuld pulled out his gun and managed to shoot his attacker, preventing the teen from stabbing other civilians who were in the vicinity.

Fuld then collapsed and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. For his heroism, Fuld was posthumously awarded a civilian medal of valor.

Fuld's family put out a statement expressing their satisfaction with the verdict.

"We're happy about the ruling to convict the loathsome terrorist on the severest charge possible and we hope he will receive the maximum sentence. In a functional world, this terrorist criminal would get the death sentence to deter anyone who is thinking about going out and attacking Jews. There is one solution for future deterrence – the death sentence for terrorists," the family said.

The family asked that the nation's leaders wage a fierce battle against terrorism.

"We are appealing to the prime minister and the defense minister – we will carry the pain with us for the rest of our lives. Your job is to be strong. To defend the citizens of Israel on all fronts, to put down roots in our homeland, to deepen our hold on this good land, to strengthen [our] sovereignty in all parts of the homeland without bowing down to terrorism or being weakened by despicable murderers," the family said.

The murder of Efrat resident Ari Fuld by a terrorist on Sunday elicited worldwide condemnation this week.

Fuld, 45, was stabbed near the Gush ‎Etzion Junction south of Jerusalem. He managed to shoot the 17-year-old assailant and wound him, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

U.N. Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov tweeted on Monday:"I extend my condolences to the family of Ari Fuld, an Israeli-American civilian who was stabbed in the West Bank yesterday. Everyone must stand up to violence and condemn terror."

The head of the European Union Delegation to Israel Emanuele Giaufret also took to Twitter, writing: "My condolences to the family of the Israeli civilian victim of a stabbing attack in the West Bank today. There can be no justification for violence and terror."

The French Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying: "France condemns the attack that killed an Israeli citizen on Sunday, Sept. 16, near Gush Etzion in the West Bank. We extend our condolences to the victim's family. We reaffirm that the use of violence is unacceptable and only serves to exacerbate tensions on the ground."

Germany's Federal Foreign Office condemned the attack, saying on its website: "Yesterday's attack on an Israeli in the West Bank fills us with profound sorrow and concern. We extend our sincere sympathy to the man's family and loved ones. There can be no justification whatsoever for the fact that some people welcome such a cowardly attack and thus incite further hatred. We condemn such violent attacks, and their incitement or justification, in the strongest possible terms. They will only make the goal of Israelis and Palestinians living side by side in peace and security in two states ever more distant."

Hundreds of people attended Fuld's funeral early Monday. ‎The U.S.-born father of four lived in the Gush ‎Etzion community of Efrat and was a well-known pro-‎Israel advocate.

‎Fuld worked as an English-language internet ‎commentator on current affairs and the weekly Torah ‎portion. He was known for his hard-line nationalist ‎ideology and strong support for the Israeli ‎military. According to his Twitter account, he had planned to go on a ‎lecture tour in the United States in November.‎

At his funeral, Fuld's father Yonah eulogized his son, saying: "He gave his life for the sanctification of God and the sanctity of the land. Had you asked, he would have told you that was the way he wanted to die. He had a passion for Torah. If he wasn't fighting for Israel in the media, you would find him with a sacred book in his hand. From the time of his youth, he would stay up until 2 in the morning and give lessons to other students, and he always continued to study. He was a hero like a lion."

He went on to say that "Zion is weeping and the land of Israel is weeping," highlighting how his Zionist advocacy made an impact in unexpected ways. "My son told me he was receiving thousands of letters from all over the world. Even from Saudi Arabia. He was everyone's hero."

Fuld's widow, Miriam, said his death will not diminish his work and his memory. "We get knocked down and we get right back up, because life is a package deal and we can't pick and choose. We must accept the good and the bad. Now it is my turn to be strong and continue onward."

She then spoke about their unique bond: "I don't know how to continue without you, we were born 24 hours apart. We never knew it would end this way. You fought for what you believed in. I promise to watch over the children. … Your job is to protect us from above. Thank you for the beautiful years and all the amazing children you gave me. I love you, I love you, I love you. "

IDF troops on Monday raided the Yatta home of the ‎terrorist who murdered Ari Fuld, 45, near the Gush ‎Etzion Junction south of Jerusalem on Sunday. ‎

The troops mapped the site ‎ahead of its future ‎demolition, a punitive measure aimed at generating deterrence often taken ‎against the families of terrorists who murder ‎Israelis.

The terrorist's mother said Sunday that she had ‎told the Palestinian security forces as well as ‎Israeli soldiers at a nearby checkpoint of her 17-‎year-old son's intentions as soon as she realized ‎what he was going to do. ‎

The attacker's father said his son had not been affiliated with any ‎Palestinian terrorist group. ‎

Hamas, the terrorist group that controls the Gaza ‎Strip, and Islamic Jihad both lauded the attack on ‎Monday, but neither claimed the teen as their ‎operative. ‎

An IDF official confirmed that the mother had ‎informed soldiers at the Meitar checkpoint near ‎Hebron of her concerns, and that the report of ‎the stabbing attack came moments later. ‎

Hundreds of people attended Fuld's funeral on ‎Sunday night.‎

The U.S.-born father of four lived in the Gush ‎Etzion community of Efrat and was a well-known pro-‎Israel advocate. ‎

According to his Twitter account, he had planned a ‎lecture tour in the United States in November.‎

Video footage from the scene showed Fuld managing to chase and fire at his assailant before collapsing. ‎Other civilians also shot at the terrorist. ‎

Fuld was rushed to Jerusalem's Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where he was ‎‎pronounced dead.‎

The terrorist reportedly sustained moderate wounds ‎and is in the Shin Bet security agency's custody.‎

Fuld was a well-known English-language internet ‎commenter on current affairs and the weekly Torah ‎reading. He was known for his hard-line nationalist ‎ideology and strong support for the Israeli ‎military.‎

Settler spokesman Josh Hasten said he had known ‎Fuld for about a decade and that his friend traveled ‎widely to showcase "the beauty and reality of life" ‎in the country.‎

Fuld delivered care packages to Israeli soldiers and ‎would go on solidarity trips to communities near the ‎Gaza Strip during times of fighting with the Hamas ‎militant group, Hasten said.‎

‎"When the rockets were falling, that's when he would ‎get in his car and go down to Sderot," Hasten said.‎

Fuld was known for his outspoken manner, which ‎included verbal clashes with Palestinians and ‎critics of Israel that could land him in trouble. At ‎times, his Facebook account was suspended.‎

‎"He did not hold back on his opinions," Hasten said. ‎‎"If that meant 30 days of Facebook jail, so be it."‎

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lauded Fuld on ‎Facebook for fighting his attacker "heroically" and ‎remembered him as "an advocate for Israel who fought ‎to spread the truth."‎

U.S. Ambassador to Israel David ‎Friedman tweeted, "America grieves as one of its ‎citizens was brutally murdered by a Palestinian ‎terrorist. Ari Fuld was a passionate defender of ‎Israel and an American patriot. He represented the ‎best of both countries and will be deeply missed. ‎May his family be comforted and his memory be ‎blessed."‎

A Shin Bet statement said the agency had no ‎intelligence indicating an imminent terrorist ‎attack. ‎

A military official said that while no additional ‎troops were deployed on the ground at this time, ‎concerns of copycat attacks have prompted the IDF to ‎bolster its presence at major checkpoints and known ‎flashpoints. ‎
