Elad Forgash was shopping in the city of Pisa in Italy's Tuscan region on Aug. 31 when he entered a store to purchase a few sculptures as souvenirs from his trip.

"I started talking to the salesman while he wrapped up the sculptures. He told me he was from Bangladesh and asked where I was from, and I replied 'Israel.' He told me he hated Israel and the Jews because they are killers. I didn't get worked up about it. I just returned the bag with the sculptures and said I would rather not buy from him.

"When I turned around, he hit me in the head with the sculptures. Luckily, there were tourists who filmed him and he ran away, and the police and an ambulance arrived and took me to the hospital."

Elad said he suffered a fracture in his eye socket and his nose and would need to have surgery when he returned to Israel.

Police in Pisa are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Three Brooklyn men were indicted this week in New York over a hate crime in which they allegedly chased Jews before violently attacking them, and demanding they cry out loud "Free Palestine." The incident took place in the wake of the latest Hamas-Israel flare-up.

The suspects – 19, 20, and 21 years old – have also been indicted for obstruction of justice.

According to the charges, which were pressed against them on May 22, the three suspects stopped by a synagogue in Borough Park the day after Operation Guardian of the Walls, and began shouting antisemitic slurs, such as "Free Palestine" and "Kill all the Jews." They also spat on Jews who walked by and physically assaulted two ultra-Orthodox men, punching and attempting to strangle them.

The three suspects first appeared in court last week, after which they were released on bail. According to local media, they are facing up to four years in prison.

The district attorney condemned the attack and said that "every Brooklynite has the right to lead his life freely and follow his religion without fear. Assaults such as the ones described in the indictment are abominable."

A video posted on social media by Shomrim, a private Orthodox Jewish safety patrol, shows two suspects approach the Jewish man, brutally beat him and steal his tefillin, after which they immediately fled the scene.

Local police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. Shomrim is offering a $1,000 award for information leading to an arrest.

Chairman of the Executive of the World Zionist Organization Yaakov Hagoel condemned the viscous attack and called on the government to take action.

"Antisemitism aims to instill fear in Jews by trying to destroy them. The incident, in which a Jew was humiliated and beaten in the streets of Brooklyn, on his way to synagogue, clearly reflects the need to recalculate a new route.

"The US, our closest ally in the world, has in recent years seen a record spike in antisemitic assaults, both in their severity and frequency. I am once again calling on the US administration to recalculate its route, and put an end to the growing phenomenon. The incident is just another reminded for those who have might have forgotten that antisemitism is directed against the Jews."

Israel Hayom correspondent Daniel Siryoti was assaulted on Saturday while on assignment in northern Israel and sustained several injuries. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Siryoti was attacked by a group of ultra-Orthodox men after they noticed the "Press" sticker on his car. The attackers were eventually warded off by a passerby who shielded him with her body.

He was rushed to the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, where he was diagnosed with a minor concussion, several lacerations, defensive wounds, and multiple contusions.

"Yesterday [Saturday] evening I was on my way to speak with the relatives of a victim of a car crash. When I arrived on their street, I was spotted by a group of haredi youth," Siryoti said.

The attackers, he stressed, had absolutely no connection to the deceased's family.

"They noticed that there was a 'Press' sticker on my car. They asked if I was a reporter and started to curse me, said we [journalists] were all leftists traitors. At one point, another guy came by, riding an electric bicycle and blocked my way. He had a child with him on the bike. I asked him, 'Why put the boy at risk? If I were to hurt you, I would go to jail.'"

"The next thing I know, I was punched in the face and six or seven guys jumped me. One of them pulled out a pocket knife and tried to stab me in the stomach. The others kept punching me, they knocked some teeth out. Another guy came by and pulled out a spike and they goaded him to stab me," he said.

"Fortunately, two people walked by and intervened. The woman literally shielded me with her body and yelled at them, 'If you want to stab him you'll have to go through me.' I have no idea who she was, but the police do. She and the man she was with were able to get me to my car."

Siryoti was able to drive to a nearby police station, where he collapsed. The officers called paramedics who rushed him to Rambam.

Israel Hayom's Editor-in-Chief Boaz Bismuth condemned the attack and wished Siryoti a speedy recovery.

"Daniel Siryoti is a dedicated professional and one of the best journalists in Israel, and a good friend. Yesterday he was physically assaulted simply because he was doing his job. Israel Hayom is very proud of you, Daniel," he tweeted.

A number of irregularities, including suspected voter fraud, were reported at several polling places nationwide on Tuesday.

In the Bedouin town of Rahat, a man who reportedly tried to slip multiple envelopes into the ballot box was arrested on suspicion of fraud.

Three polling stations in the Druze village of Yarka were shut down due to suspected fraud. Authorities suspect that attempts were made to insert multiple envelopes into the ballot box, and the chair of the local election committee ordered the stations to be closed until the matter could be clarified.

In Jerusalem, police detained a 17-year-old youth who tried to vote using someone else's ID. In Israel, voters must be 18 on the day of the election.

The Labor-Gesher list filed a complaint with the Central Elections Committee about ballots for the list being removed from a polling station in Tel Aviv. Party officials claim that the polling station committee told voters it had removed the ballots because the list would not make it past the minimum electoral threshold.

Labor-Gesher also reported attempts at fraud at polling stations in Beersheba, claiming that Likud volunteers had put old ballots for the Labor party under former leader Avi Gabbay in the tray in place of ballots for Labor-Gesher. Old ballots would be invalid. Officials filed a complaint with the Central Elections Committee.

A man who arrived at an Ashdod polling station to vote for Yisrael Beytenu discovered that he was listed as already having voted. The man filed complaints with the police and with the Central Elections Committee.

Yisrael Beytenu filed a complaint with the Central Elections Committee against the Likud, arguing that Likud activists were photographing people outside a polling station in Or Akiva. The party also claimed that in Arad, members of the Gur hassidic sect had removed Yisrael Beytenu ballots from the voting booths.

In addition, the party complained that at two polling stations in Ashdod, the party's three-letter code had been covered up, and voters had been told not to seal the ballot envelopes, in violation of election law.

The Democratic Union reported an incident in Petach Tikva in which they claimed that one of the party's activists had been assaulted by a Likud activist. The Democratic Union issued a statement: "We will continue to fight bravely for democracy. The sectoralization of Netanyahu and the Right will not deter us. We call on the public not to be afraid, and to come vote."

The Democratic Union said that in light of tips about alleged attempts by the Likud to tamper with the election, it had opened a special hotline to deal with reports of irregularities.

Blue and White reported that at a few polling stations in Herzliya, the party's ballots had been printed with an error that invalidated them. The party asked the public to be on the alert.

The police closed one polling station in Umm al-Fahm due to rioting that erupted after police were informed that one of the observers had started to photograph voters. The observer was removed, and residents began to gather. The polling station was closed until the police could gain control of the situation.

Two Israeli brothers were assaulted early Saturday in Warsaw, Poland, by a group of Arabic-speaking men. The assailants beat them and shouted, "F*ck Israel," according to a Facebook post by one of the victims, Barak Kashpizky.

According to the post, the two Israelis were part of a delegation of young Israelis who were out at one of the city's nightclubs. Kashpizky said his twin brother, Yotam, suffered broken bones to his face.

Follow Israel Hayom on Facebook and Twitter

Kashpizky wrote, "Around 4 a.m. the members of the delegation left the club. Most had already gotten into a taxi to go back to the hotel, and then a group of Arabic speakers approached them and asked if they were Israelis. When they said they were, they were attacked, and [the assailants] shouted 'F*ck Israel.' Yotam stopped his taxi and got out and headed toward his friends to break it up and calm things down.

"An Arab guy, who was apparently wearing brass knuckles, punched him, and Yotam was knocked out. Then another friend got out of a different taxi and tried to help, and he was thrown up against a parked car. When the girls started screaming, the bunch of Arabs got out of there."

"Luckily, the incident ended with fractures to [Yotam's] nose and outer eye. Yotam came back to Israel to have his injuries treated. The Israeli Embassy in Poland and the Foreign Ministry sent us to handle things with the Polish police. Not a single representative of Israel arrived to help."

The Foreign Ministry said in response to the allegations that "the attack has been brought to the attention of the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem and the Israeli Embassy in Warsaw."

"The consul inquired about the injured, offered any help necessary, and recommended that they file a complaint with the local police. The ministry is looking into the incident and will decide on what steps should be taken with local authorities," the ministry said.

A court in Cyprus postponed a hearing on Monday in the case of a 19-year-old British woman suspected of falsely accusing a group of Israelis of gang rape.

The woman was arrested on Sunday after police said she withdrew an accusation that 12 Israeli teenagers raped her in a hotel room in the holiday resort of Ayia Napa in mid-July.

The woman is being held on suspicion of public mischief in a case which caused an uproar in Israel.

Cypriot authorities, who initially arrested 12 Israelis for questioning, released five last week and the remaining seven on Sunday. They had all denied any wrongdoing.

A district court in the town of Paralimni postponed the remand hearing because the woman's lawyer was not present. It was re-scheduled to Tuesday.

A Saudi blogger was attacked by Palestinians while visiting the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Monday.

Mohammed Saud, who is one of six reporters from the Arab world currently in Israel on an unprecedented visit following an invitation by the Foreign Ministry, was cursed and spat on during his visit to Jerusalem's Old City. At one point, Palestinians threw plastic chairs and lightbulbs at Saud.

In a video posted to social media, Saud is seen touring the Old City as Palestinians call him a "Zionist," "dog," "garbage," and an "animal." They call for him to "get out of Al-Aqsa" and "go home to the Knesset."

Saud is known for tweeting in Hebrew and his pro-Israel stance.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said it condemns "the barbaric and immoral behavior of a few Palestinians near Al-Aqsa Mosque toward the Saudi media activist who came to Jerusalem with the aim of serving as a bridge to peace and understanding between the nations. They are using the holy places as a political tool in an ugly manner. We embrace the young Saudi, and he will continue to be Israel's guest of honor."

Among those who responded to Saud's treatment was former Miss Iraq Sarah Idan, who tweeted, "Saudi visited Al Aqsa to pray. How did Palestinians react? By spitting on him, t[r]ying to assault him, call him an animal told him to go pray w/Jews & Trump."

Israeli prosecutors filed charges on Thursday against a man accused of spitting on Poland's ambassador, an incident that drew strong condemnation from Warsaw and underscored tensions between the countries over anti-Semitism and the history of the Holocaust.

The suspect, Erik Lederman, was indicted for assault and criminal threats, Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court papers showed. Police said that in Tuesday's incident in Tel Aviv, Lederman had struck the roof of a car carrying Ambassador Marek Magierowski, then opened a door and spat twice on the envoy.

The counts carry a maximum of five years' jail in Israel.

Lederman, 65, has apologized, saying the car had honked at him and that he did not know that Magierowski was inside.

Lederman said he had come to the embassy to inquire about Polish restitution for his family, which had been through the Holocaust and had been turned away. He said an embassy employee used an anti-Semitic slur while he was there.

Magierowski has denied that any embassy staff used inappropriate behavior or language.

Polish-Israeli relations have deteriorated in recent months over accusations that Warsaw's nationalist PiS government has tolerated a revival of anti-Semitic behavior, a charge it denies.

A U.S. law on the restitution of Jewish property seized during or after World War II has stirred criticism in Warsaw, adding to tensions with Israel over Poles' role in the Holocaust.
