Pink, glittery, and with wings – after years of searching for a new identity, the Victoria's Secret fashion show returned to center stage Wednesday night. The runway featured familiar names alongside fresh faces: Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Jasmine Tookes, alongside Angel Reese, Iris Law, and Suni Lee – and of course Israeli representative Daniella Halfon.

This marks the second consecutive year an Israeli model has walked in the prestigious show. Last year, Sun Mizrahi made history as the first Israeli model to walk the iconic runway.

Halfon, 22, who is represented by ITM modeling agency, was recently selected to photograph a campaign for "Kylie Cosmetics" – chosen from 100 candidates worldwide.

In an interview with Israel Hayom in January 2025, she revealed that despite being from Israel, she receives mostly positive reactions. "People mainly want to know what it's like to live in a place where there's war," she said.

During the show, the energy was complemented by live performances from Madison Beer, Cardi B, Korean group TWICE, and Missy Elliott. All of this – in less than an hour.

Model Jasmine Tookes was first to walk, proudly showing her pregnancy belly in a crocheted, sheer dress. For the first time in the brand's history, professional athletes also received wings. WNBA star Angel Reese and Olympic gymnast Suni Lee officially became new "angels."

The Hadid family naturally returned to the runway, with Bella Hadid, sporting new honey-colored hair, taking the runway in the evening's red section – alongside her sister Gigi, who returned exactly a decade after her debut appearance in the show.

The Victoria's Secret show is one of the most-watched stages in the world, and every model dreams of the moment she earns the chance to walk it.

Wednesday brought social media documentation from supermodel Bella Hadid, with the 28-year-old posting photographs that showed her stay at a medical facility while connected to intravenous equipment, AOL reported.

The model's Instagram caption included a message for her audience: "I'm sorry I always go MIA I love you guys." Multiple images within the social media post showed Hadid receiving medical care in her hospital room, positioned beside a crocheted angel figure, consuming pizza, with additional photographs shared by the supermodel captured visits from relatives and companions, card game activities, with the final image showing her positioned in an elevator corner with wet hair while holding a coffee container.

Her mother, Yolanda Hadid, responded in the comment section, describing her daughter as a "Lyme warrior," and her sister, Gigi Hadid, contributed supportive words: "I love you! I hope you feel as strong and good as u deserve, soon!!!!!!"

Though specific reasons for the current medical stay were not provided, Hadid had previously described being "finally healthy" following "100+ days of Lyme, chronic disease, [co-infection] treatment [and] almost 15 years of invisible suffering" during 2023, according to AOL.

Medical diagnosis of Lyme disease occurred for Hadid during 2012, affecting both her mother, Yolanda, and younger brother Anwar. Her first public discussion about Lyme disease challenges while maintaining her modeling career took place in 2016 through an interview with People magazine.

During that interview, Hadid stated: "Life isn't always what it looks like on the outside," while noting that "the hardest part of this journey is to be judged by the way you look instead of the way you feel."

Supermodel Bella Hadid has issued an apology for her involvement in an Adidas advertising campaign that drew criticism from Israel, according to reporting by The Washington Post. The controversy centers around the rerelease of Adidas' classic SL 72 sneaker, which originally debuted during the 1972 Munich Olympics an event marred by a tragic attack that resulted in the deaths of 11 Israelis and a German police officer.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Hadid expressed shock and disappointment over the campaign's lack of sensitivity. "I would never have participated if I had done more research," she told her more than 61 million followers. The model, whose father is Palestinian, emphasized that she was unaware of the shoe's historical context.

The Israeli government's X account criticized Adidas for featuring Hadid, a known pro-Palestinian advocate, in the campaign. In response, Adidas announced plans to revise the advertisement.

"Connecting the liberation of the Palestinian people to an attack so tragic is something that hurts my heart," Hadid stated. She added, "Palestine is not synonymous with terrorism, and this campaign unintentionally highlighted an event that does not represent who we are."

Adidas also issued an apology on Instagram, acknowledging an "unintentional mistake" and expressing regret to the celebrities involved in the photoshoot and to "communities around the world." The German brand clarified that it had not intended to make connections to the 1972 tragedy.

The controversy surrounding the Adidas campaign is the latest instance of a brand becoming entangled in the complex rhetoric surrounding Middle East conflicts. Other major companies, including Starbucks, Disney, and McDonald's, have faced similar challenges. In April, McDonald's bought back its Israeli franchise following calls for a global boycott in response to restaurants offering free meals to soldiers.

Bella Hadid and her sister Gigi, both American models of Dutch and Palestinian heritage, are among the most recognizable faces in the fashion industry today. Both have faced criticism from Israel for their stances. Hadid has previously made headlines for her advocacy, including wearing a dress referencing the kaffiyeh, a Palestinian scarf, at the Cannes Film Festival this year. She has also engaged in online disputes with Israeli officials and participated in pro-Palestinian rights protests since at least 2017.

Adidas has pulled Palestinian-American model Bella Hadid from an advertising campaign for its newly relaunched SL72  retro sneakers first showcased at the 1972 Munich Olympics, in which 11 Israeli athletes were brutally murdered by the Palestinian group Black September.

The decision comes following controversy over the inclusion of the model, who has a history of anti-Israel and antisemitic rhetoric, in a campaign referencing an event marred by the tragedy.

"Guess who the face of the campaign is? Bella Hadid, a model with Palestinian roots who has spread antisemitism in the past and incited violence against Israelis and Jews," the Israeli embassy in Germany said earlier. The American Jewish Committee also condemned the campaign, calling it an "egregious error" and stating, "For Adidas to pick a vocal anti-Israel model to recall this dark Olympics is either a massive oversight or intentionally inflammatory."

Announcing the decision to drop Hadid, Adidas said in a statement, "We are conscious that connections have been made to tragic historical events – though these are completely unintentional – and we apologize for any upset or distress caused. The company confirmed that Hadid had been removed from the campaign, which highlights the shoes' 1972 introduction but does not mention the attack on Israeli athletes."

Hadid later announced she would sue Adidas for the decision.

The 1972 Munich Olympics massacre was commemorated for the first time at the 2020 Games, held in 2021. Due to security concerns, this year's commemorations in Paris are reportedly set to be held in an undisclosed location.

American fashion model Bella Hadid attended the Cannes Film Festival in a red Keffiyeh dress, meant to symbolize her support for the Palestinian people. From Vogue to popular Instagram accounts like The Cut and Dazed Fashion – the fashion community raved and praised her for it. I rolled my eyes so hard I almost got a headache.

Using activism as a fashion statement is not a new phenomenon. In 2015, Karl Lagerfeld paraded his models carrying protest signs with slogans like "Make fashion, not war" and "Be your own stylist" at his annual fashion show. In 2021, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in an impressive act of hypocrisy, attended the Met Gala – a $35,000 per ticket event – wearing a luxury dress emblazoned with "tax the rich."

However, it seems that since Hamas' violent attack on Israel on Oct. 7, this trend has gained momentum. Bella wasn't the only one at Cannes: Cate Blanchett wore a black, white, and green dress that, combined with the red carpet, resembled the Palestinian flag. The resemblance to the Palestinian flag was likely intentional, as the dress was designed by Haider Ackermann, one of the loudest voices on the internet against Israel, despite their minimal familiarity with the issue. As Cate herself said in November in the European Parliament: "I am not Syrian, not Ukrainian, not Yemeni. I'm not Afghan, I'm not from South Sudan. I am not from Israel or Palestine. I'm not a politician, I'm not even an expert." Since Oct. 7, a new level of hypocrisy seems to have spread worldwide. Acts previously considered cultural appropriation have become trendy on campuses in the US, and the importance of being informed before taking a firm stance has fallen out of fashion.

Bella could address the young female soldiers held captive and severely tortured by Hamas, who are not yet 20 years old. The same soldiers whose graphic video was released on the same day she wore that dress, in a last desperate attempt by their families; she could refer to how Hamas treats civilians in Gaza, to the harsh violence it inflicts on Gazans who do not cooperate with it; or even to political issues in the US, where she grew up, which she presumably knows better than the Middle East, to which she has a relatively loose connection. But such a choice would not have brought her symbolic (and real) success. As a model whose economic value is determined by media and social media exposure and the amount of buzz she generates, a complex and compassionate statement is simply not a financially profitable move.

To be clear, I am not against expressing political protest through fashion; quite the contrary. As a graduate of fashion and culture studies and a current fashion researcher, I am the first to say that fashion is an unparalleled powerful tool of expression that allows you to say what words cannot. But for a protest to be brave, the protester must pay a price, not receive gain. And it is desirable that the protest be on a topic directly concerning the protester's life.

Take, for example, the Iranian model Mahlagha Jaberi, who walked the same red carpet last year wearing a black dress with a rope-shaped neckline by Iranian designer Gila Saber, to raise awareness of the executions of innocent women in Iran by the Iranian government. Jaberi risked her life in a brave act to help the Iranian women maintain their lives and their freedom. In contrast, Hadid, in an irritating negative portrayal, profits off the backs of Palestinians and Israelis alike, on her way to receiving more likes on Instagram and getting another prestigious campaign. Did her keffiyeh dress help anyone in Gaza or Israel? Of course not. Does it matter to her? The answer is probably no, again.

Taking a virtual swing at the Jewish state, Hadid – who is known for her anti-Israel rhetoric – posted a photograph of a heart on her Instagram page with the words "Will you free my Palestine," a play on the traditional "Will you be my Valentine."

The jab, of course, did not go unnoticed by Hadid's 49.3 million followers, who supported the celebrity with comments like, "omg yes," "Absolute fighter," "Please free our Palestine," "much respect," and the likes.

The Hadid family are back at what they do best: inciting against Israel. Mohamed Hadid, the real estate developer and father of supermodels Gigi and Bella, shared a photograph on Instagram on Wednesday that showed a Palestinian woman allegedly being pulled away from her son's grave by Israeli police officers before the site was to be demolished to make way for a theme park.

Follow Israel Hayom on Facebook and Twitter

The photograph was a screenshot of a video originally posted on the Islamic Quotes and Muslim News Instagram page that showed a Palestinian mother crying over her son's grave seemingly being pulled away by someone who looks like a police officer.

The original post, which received over 145,000 likes, was captioned, "A Palestinian mother was forcibly removed from her son's grave because the Israeli oppressors want to build a theme park over the cemetery. They won't even allow the dead to rest." The video was most likely taken during construction works near a Muslim cemetery in Jerusalem.

Hadid, who has 1.3 million Instagram followers, accused Israel of "not respecting the dead." His post garnered thousands of anti-Israel comments and more than 42,900 likes.

"They don't respect the living. How do you expect them to respect the dead?" one user wrote. Others described the event as "vile," sickening" and "an absolute disgrace." Another outraged user wrote, "Allah is watching and he will avenge every innocent Palestinian affected one day be sure of it."

The Israel Nature and Parks Authority denied the allegations and said it did not conduct construction work within the cemetery itself. It further stressed that Israel was not building a theme park, but a national park that would "benefit the entire public, especially residents of the area."

It said works were being conducted to clear the area and build a fence between the public space where the construction is conducted and the cemetery itself.

"The work is not carried out in the cemetery area," it said. "There are a number of illegal graves onsite, despite a ban imposed by the court. Nevertheless, the works do not damage the graves, not even the illegal ones, and they will not be damaged in the future either."

It concluded by saying that the court allowed the construction to proceed immediately and all appeals against it had been rejected.
