A front-line female crime boss for the Comando Vermelho (CV) known as "Penélope" and "Japinha" died Tuesday during a clash with security forces in Rio de Janeiro's North Zone, Metrópoles reported, in what was the largest and deadliest police raid on the crime infested part of the city. The "musa do crime" was a trusted figure who protected drug sale points.

Scenes of smoke have had local media dub the pictures "Gaza-like" and "state of war."

She was struck by a rifle shot to the face in the Alemão and Penha complexes. Nicknamed the "musa do crime" for posting provocative photos with weapons, "Penélope" was considered a trusted figure by trafficking leaders, tasked with protecting escape routes and drug sale points, according to Metrópoles.

Her body was found near a main community access point after hours of gunfire, Metrópoles noted. Reports indicate "Penélope" resisted and opened fire on agents before being fatally shot in the head. She was found wearing camouflage and a tactical vest with rifle magazine compartments, reinforcing her active front-line role for the faction, as reported by Metrópoles.

The death of "Penélope" occurred during the deadliest police operation in the state's history, Metrópoles confirmed. The operation concluded with 64 fatalities, including four police officers, and 81 arrests.

The Palácio Guanabara stated the action involved 2,500 agents from the Civil Police, Military Police, and special units, Metrópoles reported. The operation's objective was to halt the CV's territorial expansion and dismantle its logistical base.

Residents of the Grota, Fazendinha, and Vila Cruzeiro regions described a "night of terror." Metrópoles detailed accounts of helicopters overhead and armored vehicles clearing paths, with gunfire and explosions lasting until dawn.

Despite the massive police presence, some criminals managed to flee via alternative routes. Agents discovered tunnels and camouflaged passages between structures used for coordinated escapes, Metrópoles reported. The tactic recalled a similar maneuver seen during the 2010 invasion of Alemão.

Why the world's most secure museum fell in a 7-minute heist https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/10/26/louvre-heist-security-management-flaw/ https://www.israelhayom.com/2025/10/26/louvre-heist-security-management-flaw/#respond Sun, 26 Oct 2025 08:30:16 +0000 https://www.israelhayom.com/?p=1097729 Seven minutes destroyed decades of security assumptions. The Louvre heist proves that smart technology without human vigilance creates vulnerability, not protection.

In just seven minutes, rare jewelry worth tens of millions of euros vanished from the Louvre Museum in Paris. Four burglars entered through a second-floor window, smashed two display cases in the Apollo Gallery, and escaped while security staff and visitors had no idea what was happening. No digital breach, no mysterious hacker, no sophisticated technology. Just a crane, a window, and audacity.

But behind the criminal incident lies a management lesson: how organizations lose the ability to distinguish between illusory and real security. The Louvre heist didn't happen despite the advanced security systems, but largely because of them. When trust in machines replaces human alertness, when the system is perceived as a substitute for thinking, reality tends to strike from the simplest place.

The Louvre's security systems were built under the assumption that the threat would look like it used to. Suspicious figure, alarm, physical breach attempt. But in an era where risk stems from the combination of technology, human agility, and surprise capability, management methods remained fossilized. The cameras documented everything, but nobody actually saw. Data flowed in real time, but there was no one to connect it into one picture. In other words, the technology was smart, but the management wasn't.

This is perhaps the essence of the challenge of the artificial intelligence era: the smarter the systems become, the more relaxed people get. Digital security creates an illusion of control, and the organization becomes addicted to procedures and systems rather than to wisdom. No algorithm identifies a lack of attention, no software warns about mental stagnation. When everything is connected, it seems like everything is under control until it turns out nobody is really alert anymore.

The Louvre Museum (Photo: Oren Ben Hakoon) Oren Ben Hakoon

If the Louvre Museum, one of the most secure places in the world, can be breached in seven minutes, any organization is vulnerable. Not always technically, but conceptually. Not through a back door, but through managerial blindness. Risk management in the current era is no longer a bureaucratic process of updating technologies, but an art of adaptation. It requires managers who identify anomalies in real time, who understand that the unexpected is already the rule, and who grasp that the real threat is complacency.

Ultimately, the Louvre heist isn't just a story about security it's a parable about leadership and responsibility. It reminds us that as long as we continue to entrust human judgment to smart machines, we remain exposed to precisely what isn't considered possible. In an era of artificial intelligence, risk management isn't about preventing the unexpected, but about recognizing when reality has already changed and moving with it.

Approximately half a kilogram (1.1 pounds) of a substance suspected of being cocaine was seized from a kindergarten teacher from central Israel and another suspect. Both were arrested by Jerusalem District police on suspicion of trafficking narcotics.

Police detectives observed the suspects in a shopping center during the afternoon, and they aroused suspicion. The officers stopped the suspects for an inspection, and a search of their belongings revealed a substance suspected to be cocaine weighing about half a kilogram – an amount not for personal use – and a large sum of cash.

The suspects, residents of central Israel in their 30s, were arrested by police detectives. To their surprise, it was discovered that the female suspect works as a kindergarten teacher. The pair was brought in for questioning at the offices of the Jerusalem District Police's Youth Exposure Unit. On Tuesday, the suspects will be brought before the court again for a hearing on the police's request to extend their detention to complete further investigative actions.

The police commented "The Israel Police continues its activity against offenses of growing, distributing, and trafficking drugs, while locating those involved and bringing them to justice."

US President Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter on Sunday night, marking a stark reversal from his previous declarations that he would not use his executive authority to grant clemency, according to reporting from NBC News.

The president issued a "full and unconditional pardon" covering any offenses Hunter Biden "committed or may have committed" between Jan. 1, 2014, and Dec. 1, 2024, the White House announced at 2:16 a.m. Eastern time.

"I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice," Biden said in his statement. "I hope Americans will understand why a father and a president would come to this decision."

President-elect Donald Trump (AP/Evan Vucci) AP/Evan Vucci

Hunter Biden was scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 12 for federal gun charges and Dec. 16 for federal tax evasion charges, to which he pleaded guilty in September. The combined charges carried a maximum prison sentence of 42 years, though the Justice Department indicated that typical sentences are substantially lower.

In his statement, President Biden addressed his son's battle with addiction, arguing that political opponents were attempting to "break" Hunter. "No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong," the president said.

The decision contradicts numerous public statements from both the president and his administration. In June, following Hunter's conviction on federal gun charges, President Biden explicitly stated, "I will not pardon him." White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had recently reaffirmed this position.

Hunter Biden responded with his own statement, acknowledging his past mistakes "during the darkest days of my addiction" while highlighting his ongoing recovery. "Despite all of this, I have maintained my sobriety for more than five years because of my deep faith and the unwavering love and support of my family and friends," he said.

President-elect Trump took to social media to criticize the pardon. "Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of justice!" Trump wrote.

The Friday Prayer Imam of Kazeroun in southern Iran was fatally shot on Friday, as reported by IRNA News, marking the third such killing of the provincial town's top cleric since the Islamic revolution of 1979. Mohammad Sabahi succumbed to his injuries at Namazi Hospital in Shiraz despite medical intervention, Kazeroun's governor Mohammad Ali Bekhrad confirmed to IRNA on Friday evening, the anti-ayatollah outlet Iran International reported Saturday.

The shooting occurred after Friday prayers, according to IRNA, which notably avoided characterizing the death as martyrdom – a term typically reserved for deaths with political or religious significance in Iran.

Friday prayer imams, who are appointed by religious authorities under Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's oversight, hold significant religious and political influence in Iranian communities. Initial reports about the incident were contradictory, with Iranian media first announcing Sabahi's death, then describing his condition as critical. The assailant reportedly took his own life following the attack.

Governor Bekhrad dismissed terrorism as a motive, suggesting to IRNA that personal grievances might have prompted the shooting. He indicated that investigations are ongoing. When news of the shooting emerged, claims on a popular Telegram channel that the attacker was a war veteran were quickly refuted by Mehdi Mazarei, head of Kazeroun's Martyrs Foundation, who warned against spreading misinformation.

Mizan News, affiliated with Iran's judiciary, reported that the assailant had a criminal history rather than military service. According to their report, the individual had previously attempted to attack a judge with explosives two decades ago, suffering self-inflicted injuries, and served six years in prison for bombing incidents in Gachsaran and other offenses, including weapon theft and bribery.

Before his appointment to Kazeroun in November 2019, Sabahi had served as Friday Imam of Kharameh in Fars province for ten years. The town of Kazeroun, with approximately 100,000 residents, has witnessed similar attacks before. In May 2019, Friday Imam Mohammad Khorsand was fatally stabbed after Ramadan prayers. The perpetrator, Hamid Reza Derakhshandeh, was executed within two months. In July 1981, another Friday Imam, Abdolrahim Daneshjou, was shot dead near his home after evening prayers, with state sources attributing the attack to MEK members, now an exiled opposition group in Albania.

In a heart-wrenching incident that has stunned the quiet Ultra-orthodox community of Lakewood, New Jersey, two young girls were found dead inside a home on Tuesday night, according to NBC New York. Law enforcement sources revealed that their mother had been taken into custody in connection with the double homicide.

The gruesome discovery was made at a residence on Shenandoah Drive near Rockbridge Road, where authorities uncovered the bodies of two toddlers –a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old. The one-year-old victim was stabbed, and both children had been drowned. Naomi Elkins, 27, who is apparently part of the Haredi community of Lakewood, was charged with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

As the community grapples with the shocking news, a heavy police presence was observed at the scene. More than a dozen officers from both the Ocean County Sheriff's Office and Lakewood Police Department were seen entering and exiting the home, while patrol cars lined the block.

The incident has left neighbors and residents in disbelief. One local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told NBC New York, "This is a quiet neighborhood. We never expected something like this to happen here. It's absolutely devastating." The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

In a shocking incident reported by timesnownews.com, a 22-year-old catering staff member in India lost his life after an altercation over insufficient mutton curry at a wedding reception in Huppu, a village in the province of Jharkhand on Thursday. The tragic event unfolded around 1:30 am when guests grew angry over the limited supply of the highly popular mutton curry dish.

According to Haripad Tudu, the in-charge of the Gola police station, "Krishna Kumar, the catering staff member, informed the guests that they could not serve more due to the limited quantity available. This led to anger among some guests, who ended up attacking the staff. In an attempt to escape, Kumar fell into a well and died. His body was found on Wednesday."

Tudu further stated that after the post-mortem examination, Kumar's body was handed over to his family on Wednesday. The victim's family filed a complaint, and a complaint was registered against the bride's father, the host, and the groom's father.

Despite the gravity of the situation, no arrests have been made so far, as per Tudu's statement to timesnownews.com. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The three former students are all sisters. They had an isolated upbringing in the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community and received no sexual education, the court heard. They were around 12, 14, and 16 when Leifer arrived at the school from Israel in 2001.

Judge Mark Gamble said Leifer abused her position at the Adass Israel School in Melbourne and her "insidious offending" had scarred the sisters for life. Leifer is a "serious sexual offender" who had shown a "callous indifference" to the suffering of her victims, Gamble said.

Leifer fled to Israel after allegations were first raised against her in 2008. When she was charged in 2014 it triggered a yearslong tussle over whether she would be extradited.

She will be eligible for parole after 11 years.

Four people were killed in a shootout in the northern Israeli Arab town of Abu Snan, including a mayoral candidate, sending shockwaves through the communities and prompting further criticism of the spiraling crime wave in the Arab sector.

The four were declared dead at the scene after Magen David Adom paramedics found them in a field. One of the victims was Ghazi Sa'ad, who was running for mayor in the upcoming municipal elections in Abu Snan.

The other three fatalities were later identified as his relatives Zahir al-Din Sa'ab and Amir Sa'ab as well as Salman Halbi from the nearby Yarka Israeli Druze village.

The shooting came just hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu again called to involve the Shin Bet security agency in cracking down on violent crimes in the Arab sector, following the killing of Abed Rahman Kashua, the municipal director of the Arab town of Tira, a day earlier.

President Isaac Herzog also commented on the quadruple murder, saying, "Every citizen of the Arab society in Israel lives today in terrible fear, heavy grief, and terrible anxieties. Each of the murdered is a complete world to his family and loved ones.

"This is an emergency that requires determined measures by the state to eradicate crime and violence and prevent the loss of life. My condolences to the grieving families from the last few days – from Tira to Abu Snan," he said.

Officials have long sounded the alarm over the unprecedented crime wave in the Arab sector, with police warning that the violence could overflow to the rest of Israeli society.

Monday's shooting brings the number of deaths linked to criminal violence in Israel's Arab community in 2023 to 156 – over twice as many as in the same period last year.
