New York City Mayor Eric Adams threw down the gauntlet to his left-wing critics on Tuesday, declaring "cancel me" as he confirmed his willingness to meet with President-elect Trump's incoming border enforcement chief to address criminal immigrants in the city, according to Fox News.

Speaking at a press conference, Adams revealed his openness to discussions with Tom Homan, Trump's pick to lead planned deportation operations after taking office.

"Well, cancel me, because I'm going to protect the people of this city," Adams declared forcefully. "If you come into this country, in this city, and think you're going to harm innocent New Yorkers and innocent migrants and asylum seekers, this is not the mayor you want to be in a city under."

While emphasizing the city's continued support for immigrants, including assistance with Temporary Protected Status applications and case management services, Adams acknowledged growing public concern over immigration issues. "The American people have communicated to us loudly and clearly: We have a broken system," he said, noting a 21-week decrease in migrant arrivals.

The mayor expressed his intention to work collaboratively with the incoming administration rather than oppose it. "I'm not going to be warring with this administration, I'm going to be working with this administration," Adams stated, according to Fox News. "President Trump is the president-elect. And whomever he chooses to run his agencies, I'm looking forward to sitting down and see how do we better New York."

Adams drew parallels to past Democratic leaders, citing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Obama's support for deporting criminal immigrants. He maintained that law-abiding undocumented immigrants "should not be rounded up in the middle of the night" but distinguished them from those committing crimes.

The stance represents a potential shift in New York's sanctuary city status, which currently prohibits local law enforcement from cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requests to transfer immigrants from custody. Adams has advocated for policy changes allowing ICE access to those suspected of major crimes.

Homan, speaking Monday on Fox News' "America's Newsroom," expressed willingness to meet with Adams. "I'm willing to meet with him, and I'm willing to meet with anybody to help make their communities safer," Homan said after being contacted by the Adams administration.

The migrant crisis has significantly impacted New York City's resources, with Adams revealing the city has spent $6.4 billion on related services. "Prioritization out of the gate is public safety threats," Homan told Fox News. "Work with us on that. It makes your community safer. It keeps my officers safe. It keeps the community safe. Let's work together and get this done."

The mayor's stance marks a significant departure from traditional sanctuary city policies, as New York grapples with both humanitarian obligations and public safety concerns amid ongoing immigration challenges.

Donald Trump reiterated false claims about immigrants eating people's pets during Tuesday's presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, promoting an internet conspiracy theory that has been thoroughly debunked, according to the Wall Street Journal.

"In Springfield, they are eating the dogs," Trump said on stage during the ABC debate in Philadelphia. "They're eating the cats," he continued, referring to Haitian immigrants in Ohio.

However, local police and city officials have stated there is no evidence to support these allegations. Springfield Police issued a statement on Monday saying the rumor originated from a Facebook post citing secondhand information from a "neighbor's daughter's friend" about a pet cat allegedly being eaten. The original poster did not claim firsthand knowledge of any such incident.

Vice President Harris appeared bemused by Trump's comments, shaking her head and laughing as he repeated the unsubstantiated claims. The conspiracy theory has also been promoted this week by Trump's running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, and spread on social media by conservative figures and billionaire Elon Musk.

Debate moderator David Muir attempted to fact-check Trump's statements in real-time, noting that ABC had confirmed with Springfield City Manager Bryan Heck that there were no reports of immigrants harming pets. To which Trump responded, "But the people on television say their dog was eaten by the people that went there."

Several prominent Republicans voiced discontent with the debate moderation, suggesting it was unfairly skewed against Trump. South Carolina Sen Lindsey Graham expressed his frustration, stating, "The moderators might as well be on the DNC payroll. This is ridiculous." California Republican Representative Darrell Issa went further, declaring, "This is the worst moderated debate in history."

Meanwhile, Trump's comments about immigrants and pets quickly gained traction on social media platforms. Users began sharing memes and AI-generated images depicting Trump in various animal-friendly scenarios. One artificially created image showed the former president rescuing a large ginger cat from a burning building. Trump himself participated in the online discourse by reposting one of these manipulated images to his Truth Social account. The image in question depicted Trump on a private jet, surrounded by cats and ducks.

Anti-immigration protesters attacked a hotel housing migrants in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, as unrest entered its fifth day across the United Kingdom, The Telegraph reports. The incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing demonstrations that have gripped several cities.

According to The Telegraph, videos shared on social media show police retreating under a barrage of objects thrown by protesters outside the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers, Rotherham. Footage also captured rioters breaking windows and storming the building, with a fire breaking out at one of the entrances.

The crowd, many waving Union Jack and St George's flags and some wearing masks, was heard chanting, "Get them out" and "Yorkshire." Counter-protesters from Stand Up to Racism were initially present at the scene but reportedly left the area as tensions escalated. Police vehicles blocked a road, and a line of officers was earlier seen outside the hotel entrance.

In response to the escalating situation, Sarah Champion, the Labour MP for Rotherham, described the ongoing riot at the migrant hotel as "horrendous" in a social media post.

The hotel had previously been the target of an anti-immigration protest in February 2023, resulting in two arrests. The unrest has spread to other parts of the country, with police forces across the UK making over 90 arrests in connection with anti-immigration rioting.

The violence has taken a toll on public infrastructure. In Liverpool, rioters set fire to the Spellow Lane Library Hub in Walton, a recently reopened facility hailed as the 'library of the future.' Liverpool City Council expressed dismay at the damage, stating, "It's such a shame because it's such a community asset. It's really sad." The library, located in one of the UK's most deprived areas, provided education and employment resources for the local community.

Policing Minister Dame Diana Johnson condemned the violence, telling Times Radio, "People need to be aware [that] if they were looting, there will be a knock on their door, they will be brought before the police and the court, and there will be consequences."

However, Dame Johnson dismissed calls to bring in the army, stating, "There is no need to bring in the Army, and there has been no discussion about that. The police have made it very clear that they have all the resources they need at the moment... they have the powers that they need."

As authorities work to contain the unrest, concerns have been raised about the impact on day-to-day policing. Tiffany Lynch from the Police Federation of England and Wales told BBC Breakfast, "We're seeing officers that are being pulled from day-to-day policing to go out there and essentially protect our communities."

Aliyah continues even as Ben-Gurion International Airport is technically closed due to COVID. On Friday, a plane carrying 330 new immigrants from Ethiopia landed in Tel Aviv.

Passengers on board included 69 children and another 17 babies and toddlers age two and under.

Friday's flight was the seventh to arrive in Israel as part of an operation initiated by Aliyah and Integration Minister Pnina Tamano-Shata.

All the new arrivals tested negative for COVID prior to leaving Ethiopia. Starting Friday, they will be required to comply with Israel's mandatory quarantine procedures and will be housed in dedicated facilities run by the Aliyah and Integration Ministry and the Jewish Agency for Israel, in coordination with the IDF Home Front Command.

One of the young olim, six-year-old Binyamin Tasfahun, requires lifesaving medical treatment in Israel due to a congenital heart defect. When Israel first decided to close down the airport, Binyamin's family was informed that his medical flight would have to be postponed. On Thursday, a Twitter post protesting the decision went viral. User Avi Yalou called it "unbelievable" that singer Ninette Tayeb had received special permission to fly abroad whereas young Binyamin was forced to wait for treatment he could only receive in Israel.

Tamano-Shata said that "every aliyah from Ethiopia is exiting and special, but this time the flight is especially moving because it was postponed twice due to the closed skies. The people of Israel should know that even in times of crisis the skies haven't been hermetically closed to new olim, that the door is always open to Jews. I hope that the new olim can celebrate the upcoming Shabbat in Israel, in all its glory."

Tamano-Shata added that as soon as she was informed of the case of Binyamin Tasfahun, she decided to handle it personally.

"His arrival in Israel involved battles against bureaucracy, but it was a battle that needed to be fought, a Jewish, humane battle… I wish little Binyamin good health and a quick recovery," the minister said.

The government is examining a proposal to establish a town expressly for immigrants from Ethiopia. If the idea is approved, it could come under criticism as a supposed attempt to separate that immigrant community from the rest of the country's residents.

The proposal is the brainchild of Deputy Public Security Minister Gadi Yevarkan, himself a member of the Ethiopian-Israeli community, who recently met with Construction and Housing Minister Yakov Litzman. The two agreed on a series of actions to be taken to improve the lot of Ethiopian Israelis.

Yevarkan presented an overview of the community's housing needs, and also suggested ideas to promote employment initiatives in the community.

The two sides agreed that Yevarkan would compile housing plans that would be submitted to the Construction and Housing Ministry for evaluation by its professional staff. It appears that such a plan might be given a green light and approved for central Israel.

Yevarkan told Israel Hayom, "I'm excited, this is great news. The significance of establishing a town for the Beta [Israel] community is the fulfillment of the dream of our forefathers, going back generations, to build a home in the ancestral land they dreamed of.

"A dedicated town for Ethiopian immigrants in Israel will be founded 40 years too late, but it's good that it will be founded. This is a small step for the state, but a giant step for the community. I am enormously privileged to be part of this pioneering project," he said.

Yevarkan expressed his thanks to Litzman for cooperating with his vision.

In a controversial appearance Monday night, contentious U.K. commentator Katie Hopkins told i24News that an influx of Muslims across Europe has caused a rise in anti-Semitic events and thousands of Jews to flee to Israel, among other pointed topics including the continent's migrant crisis and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In the heated debate alongside former Israeli Ambassador to France Daniel Shek, Hopkins stood by the claim, as explored in her new documentary "Homelands," that it is the Muslims who are "forcing the Jews out of Western Europe," as well as "her own population."

She went on to confirm a previous statement comparing African migrants to cockroaches, but recast the remark claiming she was referring to their "enduring nature."

"It is absolutely a fact," she told the Spin Room's Ami Kaufman, adding that she made the reference "specifically because we're taught that the only animal that could survive a nuclear holocaust is a cockroach."

"I was referring to the enduring nature of migrants across the [Mediterranean Sea region] and I don't regret one word of that column," she continued.

Hopkins is currently in Israel for the premiere of her documentary this week. On her visit, she has expressed a strong love for the Jewish State and its leader, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

When asked if she believed a two-state solution with the Palestinians could be possible she responded, "never."

"There will never be peace in Israel until you remove the people who don't belong there," she said.

Austria's leader is demanding that his junior coalition partner distances itself from a poem that compared migrants with rats.

Conservative Chancellor Sebastian Kurz told the Austria Press Agency that the Freedom Party's branch in Upper Austria province should "immediately and unambiguously" distance itself from the poem that appeared in a party publication in Braunau.

Kurz said "the choice of words is abhorrent, inhuman and deeply racist, and has no place in Upper Austria or the whole country."

The poem, which was titled "The Town Rat" and warned against mixing cultures, also drew strong criticism from the center-left opposition.

Kurz struck a coalition deal with the Freedom Party and became chancellor in late 2017.
