Kenyan police have taken disciplinary measures against eight officers over the escape of 13 detainees, including an alleged serial killer named Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, from Nairobi police cells.

Khalusha, a 33-year-old Kenyan, has allegedly confessed to murdering 42 women, including his wife. His lawyer claimed he was tortured and forced to confess.

The Kenyan authorities described Khalusha as a "psychopathic serial killer" and a "vampire".

He escaped along with other inmates, including Eritrean illegal immigrants, by cutting through wire mesh and scaling the perimeter wall. Police officers who were on duty at the time are suspected of having aided the escape.

Kenyan police launched a "major security operation" to recapture Khalusha.

This incident has put the Kenyan police force under scrutiny, as it is the second high-profile escape from custody in the span of six months.

Khalusha was arrested in July, after bodies of 10 individuals, including 9 women, and body parts were discovered in plastic bags in a quarry in Nairobi's Mukuru area.

Police said the area was searched after relatives of a missing woman were told in a dream where to look for her.

A forensic investigation showed that the victims had no bullet wounds, with one being strangled to death.

The Kenyan police watchdog and human rights agency are investigating the possibility of police involvement in the deaths, as the Kenyan police have faced accusations of impunity and using excessive force, especially in poor neighborhoods.

Israel's women's lacrosse team has become a worldwide sensation – but not for their performance on the field.

When the Israeli team played Kenya in the 2019 Women's Lacrosse U19 World Championships in Ontario, Canada last week, the players noticed the Kenyan team did not have cleats but were wearing regular sneakers.

The day after Israel's 13-4 victory, the Israelis returned to the field and gifted a new pair of cleats to each member of the Kenyan team. A video captured hugs between the opponents.

The Kenyan team posted a video of the event on its Twitter account. Someone at ESPN noticed the tweet and then sent the following message to the Kenyan Lacrosse team: "Hello, reaching out from ESPN. Can we please have permission to use this video on our TV and digital platforms?"

Permission was granted and that led to ESPN showing the video on all of its platforms, exposing millions of people around the world to the act of kindness from the Israeli team.

Even ESPN chimed in on Twitter, saying, "Yesterday, the Kenya lacrosse team played Israel lacrosse, and Kenya did not have actual cleats. Today, Israel surprised them with brand new ones."

On Thursday, with their new footwear on, Kenya's players defeated Belgium 16-9, earning their second win of the tournament.

David Lasday, COO of the Israel Lacrosse Association, told JNS: "Our players, coaches, and supporters take pride in representing our country, using our sport as a way of building bridges and connections to Israel.  They continue to inspire the world winning on and off the field."

Shari Arison, Israel's richest woman and heiress to the Carnival Cruise Line empire, is facing indictment in a case pertaining to alleged bribes to officials for construction contracts in several African countries.

The case was brought to the public's attention last year in February, but only on Sunday did the Polie and the Israel Securities Authority recommended that Arison be indicted.

Arison and several executives of the company Shikun & Binui (Housing & Construction), the largest construction conglomerate in Israel, are accused of bribery, a criminal offense that has only lately been enforced among Israel's business community.

"This is a complex investigation, in which 50 suspects were interrogated and 34 testimonies were taken," the police's Lahav 433 Major Crimes Unit said.

At least 19 Kenyan citizens have been arrested in connection with the investigation, which is being carried out in conjunction with the Kenyan police.

"Bribes totaling tens of millions of shekels were transferred, which generated jobs and benefits measured in hundreds of millions of shekels," the police statement added.

Shikun & Binui's business ventures in Kenya mainly involve road construction and maintenance.

Arison is the daughter of Ted Arison, who founded Carnival Cruise Lines, and was the major force behind Bank Hapoalim, the largest bank in Israel. Her personal worth is estimated at some $5 billion.

The Al-Qaida-linked Somali terrorist group Al-Shabaab is claiming responsibility for a bombing in Nairobi this week that killed at least 21 people. Al-Shabaab says that the attack was a response to U.S. President Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December 2017.

Nineteen people remain unaccounted for two days after the bombing, which targeted a hotel complex in Nairobi, the Red Cross said on Thursday, raising the possibility of a considerably higher death toll.

In a two-page statement claiming responsibility for the attack, Al-Shabaab did not spell out why it had chosen to hit Kenya over Trump's decision on Jerusalem.

It said the attack was "a response to the witless remarks of U.S. president, Donald Trump, and his declaration," and that it was targeting "Western and Zionist interests worldwide and in support of our Muslim families in Palestine."

Asked about the claim, a White House National Security Council spokesman said in a statement: "This senseless act is a stark reminder of why the United States remains resolved in our fight to defeat radical Islamist terrorism."

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Wednesday evening that a 20-hour siege had ended with security forces killing all the Somali terrorists who had stormed the hotel complex, driving hundreds of people into terrifying escapes.

Kenya, the East African hub for multinational companies and the United Nations, became a frequent target for Al-Shabaab after Kenya sent troops into neighboring Somalia in 2011 to try to create a buffer zone along its border.

Sixteen Kenyans including a policeman, an American survivor of the World Trade Center bombing, and a British development worker were among the dead in the hotel complex, Nairobi Police Chief Joseph Boinnet said.
