While standing outside a pizzeria filming a review video for his successful show "One Bite Pizza Review," Jewish American billionaire and internet celebrity Dave Portnoy became a victim of an antisemitic act when a passerby shouted at him that "F*ck the Jews," threw coins at him, and then directed the same wish toward Portnoy himself.

The video capturing the antisemitic outburst rapidly went viral and generated millions of views on X and thousands of comments ranging from shock over the act and how antisemitic actions have become commonplace. "I have never witnessed antisemitism like this in my life. It's becoming overt, and it's coming from both sides. Israeli politics have always been complex, but this open antisemitism is simply insane," one follower tweeted in response to the video in one of the threads that developed on X.

"The man promotes gambling to teenagers through addictive games. Why should anyone sympathize with him?" one user posted against him, while others added that the person who shouted the curses at him is entitled to do so because his words are protected under free speech. "He's doing a pizza review. There's a time and place for everything," another user added. "This isn't the time or place. Let the man review his pizzas in peace." "It's time for Jews to stand up and fight back. The only way to defeat a bully is to confront them," one user wrote, and another added, "I'm not Jewish and all this antisemitism fills me with anger and helplessness. Sometimes I want to yell at them, sometimes I want to hit them. I can't imagine what our Jewish brothers and sisters feel."

This isn't the first time Portnoy (48), the owner of the successful website Barstool Sports, has found himself "starring" online due to incidents tainted with antisemitism. Last June, while filming a pizza review video for his show in Toronto, Canada, he encountered an attack similar to what he had just experienced when a passerby shouted exactly the same antisemitic curse at him. A month earlier, in May, two employees at his sports bar were fired after learning they waved a sign that said, "F*ck the Jews."

Embassy evacuations? Strategic bomber deployments? Aggressive diplomatic language? Media outlets routinely cite these developments as evidence of mounting security tensions and harbingers of imminent military action. Yet another theory, one that has gained considerable traction online, proposes a different barometer for approaching American military operations – pizza orders, specifically late-night deliveries to establishments surrounding the Pentagon, White House, and other security agencies.

Washington has long recognized the "pizza index" as a reliable concept, built on straightforward logic – periods of heightened security tension, particularly preceding military operations, require Defense Department personnel to work extended overnight shifts. What sustains these marathon sessions of waiting, strategizing, and monitoring Middle Eastern developments? Pizza, naturally. This index suggests that surging pizza orders at Pentagon-area restaurants during late-night hours signal that "significant developments" are unfolding.

Journalists first observed this pattern during the 1980s amid crises preceding American interventions in Grenada (1983) and Panama (1989), along with the 1986 departure of Philippine strongman Ferdinand Marcos from Manila. However, Pentagon-area pizzerias achieved international recognition during the Kuwait crisis that precipitated the First Gulf War.

August 1, 1990 – one day before Iraq's Kuwait invasion – witnessed record pizza deliveries to CIA headquarters (though located outside Washington DC, local pizzerias there similarly benefit from security tensions). Throughout the week preceding combat operations, Pentagon nighttime deliveries surged dramatically.

Frank Mix, who operated a Washington-area Domino's franchise, discussed the phenomenon with media outlets during the First Gulf War. "The White House typically ordered 50 pizzas daily. That number jumped to 125," Mix told the Chicago Tribune in February 1991. "The significant increase occurred during late evening hours. Previously, we made no deliveries after nine or ten p.m., but suddenly we needed additional staff for overnight shifts."

Mix reported that Pentagon nighttime deliveries exploded from 3 to 101 orders during the week before hostilities commenced, while wartime daily orders reached 300 pizzas, with deliveries simultaneously increasing to the White House and State Department.

This pattern reemerged during December 1998 throughout President Clinton's impeachment proceedings and the Kosovo conflict. Veteran journalist Wolf Blitzer, then serving as CNN's Pentagon correspondent, captured the phenomenon perfectly – "Bottom line for journalists – always monitor the pizzas."

Today, users on social media share Google Maps screenshots displaying pizzeria congestion levels, while specialized accounts such as @PenPizzaReport on X monitor traffic at Pentagon-adjacent locations. During Iran's April 13, 2024, attack, users documented exceptional activity at the nearby Papa John's.

Does the "pizza index" indicate approaching conflict with Iran? Recent dramatic developments – including reports that Israel contemplates attacking Iran imminently without American backing, plus Wednesday's emergency evacuation of US embassies in Iraq, Bahrain, and Kuwait – prompted global users to examine pizzeria activity. Current evidence suggests bomber crews remain grounded.

The @PenPizzaReport X account documented typical Pentagon-area pizzeria activity Wednesday night, noting some establishments recorded increased orders while others experienced reduced demand. Either reports of impending strikes were overstated, or the Defense Department has embraced healthier "overnight dining" following 18 months of sustained conflict. Washington, Middle Eastern capitals, and international observers continue monitoring developments.

Whenever we start a diet, we often categorize certain foods as "off-limits" – pizza and ice cream are typically at the top of that list. However, Shirly Koren Shay, a dietitian, workout coach, and mother of three, suggests it's time to change our mindset about these seemingly indulgent treats and embrace moderation as the key to sustainable weight loss success.

The "White Bear" experiment by psychologist Daniel Wegner demonstrated that when instructed not to think about a white bear, it became nearly impossible to avoid fixating on the very image we aimed to suppress. This phenomenon extends to dieting – forbidding certain foods can amplify cravings, undermining our efforts.

"Instead of placing foods into the 'forbidden' category, we should embrace the idea of enjoying all foods in moderation," explains nutritionist Sarah Wilson. "Deprivation only breeds resentment and makes us more likely to overindulge when temptation strikes."

So, how can one indulge in pizza and ice cream while still shedding pounds? The experts offer three viable options: store-bought, healthier alternatives, and homemade versions.

The store-bought option:

Pizza: A standard pizza slice from a pizzeria can pack around 250 calories, but incorporating a slice into a balanced meal with salad and protein can satisfy cravings while maintaining a calorie deficit.
Ice Cream: A half-cup (100g) serving of premium ice cream contains approximately 220 calories – an acceptable daily treat when accounting for overall intake.

The healthier alternative:

Pizza: Cauliflower-based crusts offer a low-calorie (47 calories per slice) base to load with veggies, lean protein, and a sprinkle of cheese.
Ice Cream: The frozen aisle is brimming with high-protein, low-calorie ice cream options perfect for a guilt-free daily indulgence.

The homemade route:

Pizza: Whipping up a protein-packed pizza crust at home allows you to control portions and ingredients for a satisfying, diet-friendly meal.
Ice Cream: Nutritious "nice cream" recipes using frozen bananas or yogurt provide a sweet, creamy treat without the excess calories and sugar.

"At the end of the day, no food is truly off-limits," Wilson emphasizes. "It's about finding a balance that allows you to enjoy your favorite treats without compromising your goals. Moderation and smart substitutions are key to long-term success."

Oshri Cohen's NEW WORLD (pizza) ORDER, produced by Haven Originals, was named on Tuesday for the Award of Distinction Humanitarian Award at the Accolade Global Film Competition.

In the movie, the protagonist is an Average Joe who simply wants to order a pizza through his smart speaker. Hungry and in a hurry, he gives into the temptation to accept new terms and conditions that allow the use of his personal information in order to make the order process frictionless. This leads him to the terrifying realization that "they" know way too much, and the pizza lover finds himself being violently interrogated by government officials, in his own living room.

Cohen's short is part of Project Out, a series of short films that focus on the "little guy" versus the government or big tech. Each film tells the story of a different character in a different world of rules and a constant conflict and looks at the question of how far people should go to remain good, law-abiding citizens.

Haven Originals co-founder Ronen Menipaz said, "We're thrilled to receive this award. Haven Originals, our concept development production house, focuses on the production of content with the goal of encouraging critical thinking and breaking paradigms. We're very proud of this project and see this award as a testament that our efforts are echoing."

The goal of the Humanitarian Award is to honor filmmakers who bring awareness to ecological, political, social justice, health and wellness, animal welfare, and conservation issues, through excellence in filmmaking.

Thus far, the Project Out films have won 12 global awards. The Hollywood Just4Shorts film and screenplay competition picked one of its entries to honor with the best web series award, and another short was an official selection at the New York Liftoff Film Festival for 2020.

Want all the deliciousness of savory comfort foods, but without going overboard on salt intake? Israel's Salt of the Earth, in business for nearly a century, is introducing Mediterranean Umami Bold that the company says can punch of flavor in anything from pizza to tomato soup.

Salt of the Earth describes Mediterranean Umami Bold as a clean-label plant-based solution that enhances flavor while cutting down on the amount of sodium. The flavoring is vegan as well as certified kosher and halal.

The company's business director, Tali Feingold, said that "Consumers are working from home and do not enjoy active social lifestyles as before, so eating at home and turning to comfort food have become the new normal."

But at the same time, Feingold said, consumers are more conscious about what they put into their bodies.

Rakefet Rosenblatt, a food technologist for Salt of the Earth, explains that "Removing salt from a recipe and adding Mediterranean Umami Bold enhances all of the flavors in the application, without influencing texture or mouthfeel."

Salt of the Earth says that its Mediterranean Umami Bold works especially well with meat and fish, in sauces, soups, plant-based meat substitutes, and in baking.
