President Donald Trump made a threat on Tuesday to move the 2026 World Cup matches scheduled for the Boston suburbs, suggesting parts of the city have been "taken over" by disorder, AP reported. Foxborough, Massachusetts, home of the New England Patriots, is where the games are slated to take place as the US cohosts the tournament with Canada and Mexico. The threat by Trump followed a question about Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, a Democrat whom he called "intelligent" yet "radical left."

"We could take them away," Trump said before stating, "I love the people of Boston and I know the games are sold out. But your mayor is not good." Although he gave no specifics, he asserted that "they're taking over parts of Boston," adding a promise that "we could get them back in about two seconds."

The Trump administration has already deployed National Guard troops to both Memphis and Washington, and legal disputes have arisen from efforts to deploy them in Portland, Oregon, and Chicago. Wu's office did not directly address the president's threat; instead, they released a statement: "Boston is honored and excited to host World Cup matches, and we look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to our beautiful city, the cradle of liberty and city of champions."

Trump also threatened to move the Olympics from Los Angeles over similar concerns.

"If I thought LA was not going to be prepared properly, I would move it to another location if I had to," he said. "On that one I'd probably have to get a different kind of a permission, but we would do that," Trump said on the 2028 Games, although such a decision ultimatley rests with the International Olympic Committee.

Trump's statement was made during his meeting with Argentina President Javier Milei, and the exact meaning of his reference to parts of Boston being seized was initially unclear. The statement follows several arrests and injuries to four police officers during a violent pro-Palestinian protest on Boston Common earlier this month, according to the AP.

Trump previously suggested he might declare cities "not safe" for the 104-game soccer tournament and alter a detailed hosting arrangement that FIFA confirmed back in 2022. This plan includes holding matches at NFL stadiums located near New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, the AP said.

The authority to select World Cup host sites does not belong to Trump. FIFA has contracts with the 11 US cities – in addition to three in Mexico and two in Canada – and the organization would face substantial legal and logistical challenges to implement changes only eight months before the June 11 kickoff. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a powerful message to the Iranian people, urging them to rise against their oppressive regime and envision a future of freedom and prosperity. Speaking in a video message from Jerusalem, he criticized Iran's leadership for their failures, particularly in addressing the nation's worsening water crisis. Netanyahu highlighted the regime's admission of severe shortages, stating, "A few days ago, the Iranian president said: 'We have problems with water, electricity, money and inflation – where don't we have a problem? There won't be any water in the dams by September or October'." Netanyahu blamed the Iranian regime for the dire situation, noting that Iranians lack access to clean water for their children amid scorching summer heat.

"In this brutal summer heat, you don't even have clean, cold water to give your children. Such hypocrisy. Such disdain for the Iranian people. To live like this is not fair to you. It's not fair to your children," Netanyahu attacked the regime.

Netanyahu, who launched Operation Rising Lion in June to dismantle Iran's nuclear program, contrasted Iran's struggles with Israel's achievements in water management. He proudly declared, "Israel is the #1 recycler of water in the world. We recycle 90% of our waste-water. And we lead the world in desalination." He recalled launching a Telegram channel in Farsi nearly a decade ago to share water management techniques, which attracted 100,000 Iranians almost immediately. This, he said, reflects both Iran's thirst for water and its people's yearning for freedom.

Netanyahu painted a vivid picture of a revitalized Iran, free from tyranny. He invited Iranians to imagine water skiing on the Karaj Dam, strolling along a restored Farahzad river, and seeing lush trees in Niavaran and Darband. He also spoke of reviving Urmia lake, a once-stunning natural wonder in northwest Iran. These visions, he argued, are achievable with Israel's expertise, which would be shared the moment Iran achieves freedom. "The moment your country is free, Israel's top water experts will flood into every Iranian city bringing cutting-edge technology and know-how." He added, "Well, all of this is not a dream. This can be your reality. But instead of making this a reality, your dictators impose tyranny and poverty upon you - just as they impose war on us," Netanyahu lamented. "For 46 years, you have been denied the most basic human rights. The right to express yourselves freely. To write, speak and sing whatever you please."

Netanyahu condemned Iran's regime for prioritizing foreign conflicts over domestic needs. Netanyahu asserted that Tehran's leaders have squandered hundreds of billions of dollars on groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, neglecting hospitals, schools, and infrastructure. He decried the regime's repression, holding up books by Iranian dissidents forced to publish abroad as evidence of stifled voices. "You, the descendants of Cyrus the Great, deserve much more," he said.

In a call to action, Netanyahu urged Iranians to take to the streets, demand justice, and protest tyranny. He assured them of global support, stating, "I stand with you. Israel stands with you. The entire free world stands with you."

"Take to the streets. Demand justice. Demand accountability. Protest tyranny. Build a better future for your families and for all Iranians. Do not let these fanatic mullahs ruin your lives for a minute longer," Netanyahu said.

He further made a prediction that the "cruel, callous, and cowardly" regime in Tehran will not last long, promising a future where Iran's economy thrives, water flows abundantly, and children live joyously. Quoting Theodor Herzl, he concluded, "If you will it, it is no dream," adapting the phrase to inspire Iranians: "Iran Baraye Irani" – Iran for Iranians.

Major chaos erupted Tuesday in the Serbian parliament as part of the anti-government protest that continues to sweep the country. Opposition members set off smoke bombs in the plenary hall, made noise with noisemakers, and held signs reading "Serbia is rising up – until the regime falls."

The incident occurred while protests continued in Serbia surrounding the November 2024 collapse of a roof at the Novi Sad train station that led to the death of 15 people. The widespread protest in the country has already led to the resignation of Prime Minister Miloš Vučević. In recent days, tens of thousands of students have been demonstrating in the capital Belgrade against President Aleksandar Vučić.

The massive demonstrations in the country have now become almost daily, and now, the pressure is on President Vučić to resign and call for new elections. On Monday, Vučić was forced to apologize for calling a journalist an "imbecile" and accusing him of being politically motivated.

The president also claimed that he's a victim of an "unconstitutional" attempt organized by the West to remove him from office. He called the protesters against him a minority, their demands fake, and said that blocking roads and highways is illegal.

Three protesters were arrested after a demonstration turned violent in downtown Montreal on Friday, with protesters smashing windows and setting cars on fire during a rally that combined opposition to a NATO parliamentary summit with pro-Palestinian demonstrations, the Montreal Gazette reports.

The unrest coincided with the arrival of roughly 300 NATO delegates in Montreal for a high-level summit focused on Ukraine, climate change, and the alliance's future, running from Nov. 22-25. The protest also aligned with the second day of widespread student pro-Palestinian demonstrations across the city, according to the Montreal Gazette.

According to Manuel Couture, a spokesperson for the Montreal police who spoke to the Montreal Gazette, the demonstration began at a downtown park at 4:30 p.m. before marching toward the city's entertainment district. By 5:30 p.m., a second group had assembled at a major cultural center, where the two demonstrations merged.

Tensions escalated as the march progressed through downtown Montreal. At 6:10 p.m., demonstrators burned an effigy of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The situation further deteriorated as protesters threw objects at police officers, including small explosive devices and metal items. By 6:40 p.m., the demonstration had turned destructive, with protesters breaking shop windows in the downtown area and setting two vehicles on fire.

Police responded by deploying chemical irritants and implementing crowd control measures to restore order, Couture told the Montreal Gazette. Three protesters were arrested on charges of allegedly assaulting police officers and interfering with police work. The crowd dispersed by 7 p.m.

As Columbia University students returned for the fall semester, they were greeted by renewed protests and heightened security measures outside the iconic New York City campus, according to reporting by the BBC.

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered at the school gates on Tuesday, the first day of classes, chanting "Free Palestine" and banging drums as they marched in circles. Many protesters wore traditional keffiyeh scarves covering their faces.

The scene was reminiscent of last semester's large-scale demonstrations against Israel's anti-terrorism operation in Gaza, which saw some of the most intense campus protests in the US.

Inside the campus, the Alma Mater statue outside Low Memorial Library was doused with red paint. CBS News, the BBC's US partner, reported that the area was cordoned off as crews worked to clean the statue.

Police reported at least two arrests on Tuesday but described the gatherings as "peaceful" overall.

Students and staff queued to have their identification thoroughly checked before entering campus, while protesters and onlookers were separated by metal barricades.

Many students appeared unfazed by the demonstrations. Stephanie Lee, a 28-year-old graduate student studying business, said she expected protests but felt "OK" on her first day. "Security is pretty good," she added.

Rachel Black, a freshman from North Carolina, viewed the protests as part of her educational experience at Columbia. "I'm interested in becoming more educated," she said. "I'm hoping to learn what the conflict [is] about."

The university's previous academic year ended tumultuously, with New York Police Department raids on a pro-Palestinian encampment and the brief occupation of an academic building, resulting in over 100 arrests. The main graduation ceremony was canceled, and students departed for summer break amid an atmosphere of unease.

Last month, Columbia president Minouche Shafik, who had authorized the police raid on the encampment, resigned from her position.

David Lederer, a 22-year-old junior, held a small counter-protest with a fellow Jewish student outside the university gates. They displayed a large banner reading "Get Support for Terrorism Off Our Campus" and a photo of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, a 23-year-old Israeli-American hostage whose body was recently recovered in Gaza.

Lederer expressed concerns shared by some pro-Israel Jewish students about antisemitism on campus, stating, "To be anti-war is one thing, but to be pro a terrorist organization is another, and that has no place at Columbia."

A wave of protests swept across Israel on Monday, with tens of thousands of demonstrators taking to the streets in dozens of locations nationwide in reaction to Sunday's news of six hostages whose bodies were recovered from Gaza. From Rosh Pina in the north to the Negev in the south, protesters united in their call for government action to negotiate the return of hostages held in Gaza. Clashes erupted on the Ayalon Highway Tel Aviv, with protesters blocking parts of it.

Organizers from the Hostages and Missing Families Forum released an extensive list of demonstration sites nationwide. Rallies were planned in Haifa and its suburban Krayot area, along the Sea of Galilee shores, in Kiryat Tivon and surrounding areas, Zichron Yaakov, Pardes Hanna-Karkur junction, and outside the Prime Minister's residence in Caesarea, scheduled for 7:30 PM.

The protest map extended to Hadera, Yaqum, and Bazra in central Israel, Latrun junction, Raanana, and Kfar Hayarok in the Sharon region. Tel Aviv's Begin Bridge was set to host demonstrators from noon, while Jerusalem, the Eshkol Regional Council, Gedera, and Beersheba were also marked for protest actions.

This nationwide mobilization follows growing public frustration over the government's approach to the hostage crisis. Protesters are pushing for intensified efforts to negotiate the release of those still captive in Gaza.

At the Yaqum junction rally, Shir Siegel, daughter of Keith Siegel, who is being held hostage in Gaza, addressed the crowd, personalizing the urgency of the protesters' demands. The presence of hostages' family members at various demonstration sites has lent a powerful emotional weight to the public outcry.

A group of pro-Palestinian protesters attempted to disrupt a baseball game in Baltimore, sparking a heated reaction from other fans in the stands. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding the war against the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip and its impact on public events in the United States.

Several demonstrators tried to interrupt the game, but their efforts were met with angry responses from other spectators in the stands.

Videos circulating on social media show the protesters holding Palestinian flags and chanting "Free Palestine."

The reaction from other fans was swift and forceful. Spectators can be heard shouting "Get out of here" and more explicit expletives at the demonstrators.

While freedom of expression is a protected right in the US, disrupting sporting events or other public gatherings is often met with resistance from both organizers and attendees who prefer to keep politics separate from entertainment.

While some reports said Mangoush was being investigated, during which time she would be placed on "administrative suspension," others stated she left the country on a private jet hours after the suspension and headed to Turkey.

Libya's Foreign Ministry said that "what happened in Rome was a chance and unofficial encounter that did not involve any discussion, agreement or consultation." Mangoush "refused to meet with any party" representing Israel, while stressing "in a clear and unambiguous manner Libya's position regarding the Palestinian cause."

Libyan Presidential Council leader Mohammed Menfi said the meeting between Mangoush and Cohen did "not reflect the foreign policy of the Libyan state," and is "a violation of Libyan laws that criminalize normalization with the Zionist entity."

Cohen's office, on the other hand, hailed the talks as the "first step in the relationship between Israel and Libya."

The news brought protesters out into the streets against Israel and in solidarity with the Palestinians.

The meeting was hosted by Antonio Taiani, Italy's foreign minister. Cohen said the meeting was part of his government's efforts to expand "the circle of peace and normalization of Israel."

The policeman was hospitalized with a moderate wound at the Tel Aviv Sourasky (Ichilov) Medical Center, law enforcement said, adding that they were looking for the suspect who fled the scene.

Another three officers were lightly injured and 10 people were arrested.

Demonstrators demanded a proper investigation into the incident, accusing the police of leniency toward the driver who hit 4-year-old Rafael Adana in May.

Seventy-year-old Carol Fassler allegedly initially fled the scene but was later arrested along with her daughter, Heidi, who is suspected to have also been in the car at the time of the incident. Fassler reportedly drove straight to a car repair shop after hitting Adana in an attempt to repair the vehicle and conceal evidence.

Law enforcement said they would not charge Fassler with manslaughter and she would only be held accountable for fleeing the scene.

Adana was hospitalized after the hit-and-run and died several days later.

Hamas quickly dispersed the marches took place in Gaza City, the southern town of Khan Younis and other locations, chanting "what a shame" and in one place burning Hamas flags, before police moved in and broke up the protests.

Police destroyed mobile phones of people who were filming in Khan Younis, and witnesses said there were several arrests. Dozens of young supporters and opponents of Hamas briefly faced off, throwing stones at one another.

The demonstrations were organized by a grassroots online movement called "alvirus alsakher," or "the mocking virus." It was not immediately known who is behind the movement.

Hamas rules Gaza with an iron fist, barring most demonstrations and quickly stamping out public displays of dissent. The terror group militant seized control of Gaza in 2007 from the forces of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, prompting Israel and Egypt to impose a blockade on the territory. Israel says the closure is needed to prevent Hamas from building up its capabilities.

The closure has devastated Gaza's economy, sent unemployment skyrocketing and led to frequent power outages. During the current heat wave, people have been receiving four to six hours of power a day due to heavy demand.

"Where is the electricity and where is the gas?" the crowds shouted in Khan Younis. "What a shame. What a shame."

Protesters also criticized Hamas for deducting a roughly $15 fee from monthly $100 stipends given to Gaza's poorest families by the wealthy Gulf state of Qatar.

There was no immediate comment from the Hamas authorities.
