A decomposed body found in a Tesla belonging to singer D4vd at a Los Angeles impound lot was identified as a 15-year-old girl. According to NBC Los Angeles, the girl was identified as Celeste Rivas by forensic analysis. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office has not yet determined a cause of death.

The Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement that it had not yet received a "crime classification from the coroner as to the mode or manner of death," and therefore had no suspect information. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office confirmed on Tuesday that it had identified "the juvenile who was reported missing from Lake Elsinore" as Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

The sheriff's office later apologized for having initially referred to the case as a homicide, clarifying that the Los Angeles Police Department is the lead agency. The remains were discovered on September 8 when police were called to Hollywood Tow after an individual reported an abandoned Tesla, according to a police statement and NBC Los Angeles.

The medical examiner's office said the girl had wavy black hair, weighed about 71 pounds, and was wearing a tube top with black leggings, a yellow metal chain bracelet, and stud earrings.

Law enforcement sources told NBC News the remains were not intact, and the medical examiner had said the girl appeared to have been dead in the vehicle for a long time. A representative for D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, said he had been informed of the incident and was "fully cooperating with the authorities." A scheduled concert for D4vd on Wednesday in Seattle was canceled following the news.

One June evening, Italo Frigoli was operating his Tesla on the Full Self-Driving software when he came upon a railroad crossing where the arms were already lowering and the lights were flashing, as a train was speeding toward the intersection, according to a report by NBC News. While these are clear signals for any human driver to stop, Frigoli's Tesla, which was in a semiautonomous mode, did not appear to register the potentially fatal situation. "It felt like it was going to run through the arms," Frigoli told the outlet. "So obviously I just slammed on the brakes." He stopped just a few feet away from the crossing near his North Texas home, averting a potential disaster.

Footage from the car's cameras, which NBC News reviewed, seems to confirm his account. This month, when NBC News accompanied Frigoli to the same crossing, his Tesla's software experienced the same problem. With cameras recording, the Tesla's software failed to detect a train coming, forcing Frigoli to manually apply the brakes.

While Italo Frigoli successfully avoided collisions, his experiences illustrate a common complaint among some Tesla drivers about the company's FSD technology, as highlighted by NBC News. The software is said to sometimes mishandle railroad crossings, including by not stopping for them.

Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software is a driver-assistance package that the company advertises as "the future of transport," capable of navigating "almost anywhere with your active supervision."

In interviews, six Tesla drivers who use FSD informed NBC News that they had issues with the technology at rail crossings, and four of them supplied videos. NBC News also discovered seven additional Tesla driving videos posted online with similar issues, dating from June 2023 to August. Those drivers declined to be interviewed.

On Tesla internet forums, the complaints are even more widespread, with drivers describing similar issues, though not always posting videos. NBC News found 40 such examples on Reddit, X, and YouTube from 2023 onward, with some posts as recent as August.

Regulators from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) told NBC News in a statement that the agency had brought the issue up with Tesla. "We are aware of the incidents and have been in communication with the manufacturer," the agency said.

"NHTSA discusses issues frequently with manufacturers and prioritizes the safety of all road users," the statement continued. "The agency continuously analyzes consumer complaints to determine whether a potential vehicle safety defect trend exists. We will continue to enforce the law on all manufacturers of motor vehicles and equipment, in accordance with the Vehicle Safety Act and our data-driven, risk-based investigative process."

Elon Musk has repeatedly stated that autonomous technology is crucial to Tesla's future, having bet the company's trajectory on the success of automated vehicles and artificial intelligence-powered robots. Tesla robotaxis are now in service in Austin, Texas, and are scheduled for other cities. In July, Musk stated that an unsupervised FSD version – one that does not require a human driver – could be available this year "in certain geographies" and that his objective is to have Tesla robotaxis accessible to 50% of the US population by the end of the year.

Nevertheless, questions regarding the guiding technology used by the company's vehicles persist. Experts told NBC News that Tesla's FSD software is a black-box AI model where errors are not easily explained even by its creators and that Tesla engineers likely did not include enough railroad crossing examples in the training videos for the FSD software.

Neither Tesla nor Elon Musk responded to requests for comment regarding the railroad crossing complaints. While Musk has not publicly commented on the complaints, he has stated that Tesla is preparing a major update to the FSD software to be released as soon as late September. Drivers described a range of system malfunctions. Frigoli and other drivers said that their vehicles did not recognize flashing lights or lowering gate arms. Some reported that their Teslas have not slowed down even with trains directly in front of them. Other drivers said their cars have stopped on top of the tracks when traffic lights were ahead, which could be dangerous if the gates lower before the lights change. In an online video, one Tesla first stops at a crossing but then, after the gates start to come down, a set of traffic lights down the road turns green, and the car attempts to proceed through the gates just seconds before a train arrives. Other drivers reported that their cars turned onto the tracks themselves.

Experts warned that Tesla and Elon Musk are risking a disaster. "If it's having trouble stopping at rail crossings, it's an accident waiting to happen," said Phil Koopman, an associate professor emeritus of engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. "It's just a matter of which driver gets caught at the wrong time," he added.

Elon Musk is backing away from his earlier commitment to launch the America Party, opting to focus on his business empire and preserve ties with key Republicans, The Wall Street Journal reports. Sources close to Musk indicate he is cautious about creating a third party that could fracture GOP support in upcoming elections.

Last month, Musk publicized plans to form the America Party to serve voters disillusioned with the two-party system. According to The Wall Street Journal, he has since redirected his efforts toward nurturing his connection with Vice President JD Vance, a prominent figure in the MAGA movement. Musk's recent communications with Vance reflect his concern that a new party could jeopardize this relationship, sources told The Wall Street Journal.

Discussions among Musk's confidants suggest he may channel his substantial wealth into backing Vance for a 2028 presidential run, The Wall Street Journal reveals. After spending nearly $300 million to support President Donald Trump and GOP candidates in 2024, Musk remains open to the party idea but has taken no concrete steps to advance it. The Wall Street Journal confirmed that a scheduled meeting with third-party campaign specialists was canceled, with Musk's team emphasizing his focus on corporate responsibilities.

In July, Trump derided Musk's party plans, while Musk insisted it would promote voter "freedom." Vance, speaking to the Gateway Pundit, remarked, "So my hope is that by the time of the midterms, he's kind of come back into the fold," signaling his desire for Musk's alignment with conservatives. The Wall Street Journal notes that Musk and Trump have recently ceased public hostilities, with Trump expressing support for Musk's businesses on Truth Social.

A new executive order easing rocket launch regulations could bolster SpaceX, suggesting a thaw in Musk-Trump relations. Despite interest from Andrew Yang and Mark Cuban, The Wall Street Journal reports that Musk has not pursued discussions with them or his political advisers about the party. Steven Nekhaila, Libertarian National Committee chair, told The Wall Street Journal, "It's almost an eerie silence," highlighting the absence of action toward establishing the America Party.

Tesla reported mixed second-quarter results Wednesday, with total revenue declining 12% to $22.5 billion while the company achieved a significant milestone by launching its first robotaxi service in Austin, Texas.

The electric vehicle manufacturer posted GAAP net income of $1.2 billion, down 16% from the same period last year, with diluted earnings per share of $0.33 compared to $0.40 in Q2 2024. Operating income fell 42% year-over-year to $923 million, resulting in a 4.1% operating margin.

Robotaxi service marks strategic pivot

Tesla characterized Q2 2025 as "a seminal point in Tesla's history," marking the beginning of its transition from leading electric vehicle and renewable energy industries to becoming a leader in artificial intelligence, robotics and related services.

The company launched its robotaxi service in Austin in June with safety riders present. Tesla achieved what it called "the world's first autonomous delivery to a customer" with a new Model Y driving itself approximately 30 minutes from the factory to the owner's home, including highway travel.

"While the service is limited in initial scope, we believe our approach to autonomy – a camera-only architecture with neural networks trained on data from our global fleet of millions of vehicles – allows us to continually improve safety, rapidly scale the network and improve profitability," the company stated.

Vehicle deliveries and production decline

Tesla delivered 384,122 vehicles in Q2 2025, down 13% from 443,956 vehicles in the same quarter last year. Model 3/Y deliveries fell 12% to 373,728 units, while other model deliveries dropped 52% to 10,394 units.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk have been feuding. Tesla (in the background), has suffered (Reuters/Charles Platiau;REUTERS/Nathan Howard; REUTERS/Kent Nishimura;)

Total vehicle production reached 410,244 units, flat compared to the prior year. Model 3/Y production increased 3% to 396,835 units, but other model production declined 45% to 13,409 units.

The company's global vehicle inventory increased to 24 days of supply, up from 18 days in Q2 2024.

Revenue breakdown shows mixed performance

Automotive revenue fell 16% year-over-year to $16.7 billion, impacted by declining vehicle deliveries, lower regulatory credit revenue, and reduced average selling prices due to product mix changes.

Regulatory credit revenue dropped to $439 million from $890 million in Q2 2024, representing a significant headwind for profitability.

Energy generation and storage revenue declined 7% to $2.8 billion, while services and other revenue grew 17% to $3.0 billion, partly driven by improved supercharging margins.

Energy business achieves record performance

Despite revenue declining slightly, Tesla's energy storage business achieved record trailing twelve-month deployments for the 12th consecutive quarter. The company deployed 9.6 GWh of energy storage in Q2 2025.

Energy generation and storage gross profit reached a record $846 million, with the business benefiting from the start of Megapack deployments from the Shanghai Megafactory.

"When paired with solar PV, Megapack is cost competitive with traditional fossil fuel generation assets and can be deployed 4x faster than traditional fossil fuel plants of the same capacity," Tesla reported.

Strong balance sheet amid uncertain environment

Tesla maintained a strong financial position with $36.8 billion in cash, cash equivalents and investments at quarter-end, down slightly from $37.0 billion in the previous quarter.

Operating cash flow totaled $2.5 billion, while free cash flow was $146 million after capital expenditures of $2.4 billion.

The company expanded its AI training capacity, adding 16,000 H200 GPUs at Gigafactory Texas, bringing total Cortex capacity to 67,000 H100 equivalents. Tesla plans further expansion to approximately 130,000 H100 equivalent GPUs by the end of September.

Product development and manufacturing updates

Tesla continued development of its more affordable vehicle model, completing first builds in June with volume production planned for the second half of 2025. The company also advanced development of the Tesla Semi and Cybercab, both scheduled for volume production in 2026.

The company produced its 8-millionth vehicle at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in June and opened the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles, combining charging, dining and entertainment services.

Challenges from trade and policy uncertainty

Tesla acknowledged headwinds from "shifting tariffs, unclear impacts from changes to fiscal policy and political sentiment" affecting the automotive and energy supply chains.

Despite these challenges, the company said it continues making "high-value investments in CapEx and R&D while ensuring a strong balance sheet."

Market expansion and safety achievements

Tesla expanded its geographic footprint, launching the Model Y in India and achieving record delivery volumes in South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore. The refreshed Model 3 earned 5-star safety ratings from both ANCAP and EuroNCAP testing organizations.

The company added 2,900 net new supercharging stalls during the quarter, growing the network 18% year-over-year to 7,377 stations with 70,228 connectors globally.

Tesla said it remains focused on "delivering affordable and compelling autonomy-capable models that maximize our global fleet of vehicles as our autonomy software continues to rapidly progress, growing the energy business and advancing our robotics efforts."

Michael Saylor, the driving force behind MicroStrategy's transformation into a Bitcoin powerhouse, has garnered significant support for his bold cryptocurrency strategy. Now known as Strategy, his company holds 582,000 Bitcoins, worth roughly $62.3 billion in June 2025, cementing its status as the top publicly traded Bitcoin holder. Bloomberg highlights that Vanguard, once a Bitcoin skeptic, now owns over 20 million Class A shares, making it MicroStrategy's largest shareholder – a testament to Saylor's ability to win over major institutional players. This backing reflects confidence in his vision to redefine corporate finance through Bitcoin.

Michael Saylor, chairman and CEO of MicroStrategy, speaks during a panel discussion at the Bitcoin Conference, April 7, 2022, in Miami Beach, Fla. (Rebecca Blackwell, File)

Saylor's influence has reshaped corporate strategies globally. In December 2020, he directly engaged Elon Musk on X, advocating for Tesla to shift its balance sheet to Bitcoin. Tesla's subsequent $1.5 billion investment, reported by TheStreet, made it the second-largest non-crypto public company holding Bitcoin, with 11,509 BTC. Companies like Square, MetaPlanet, and Semler Scientific have emulated Saylor's approach, using debt and equity to amass Bitcoin reserves. This trend has solidified his role as a catalyst for institutional Bitcoin adoption, with MicroStrategy's stock surging 3,313% since its first Bitcoin purchase in August 2020.

Personally holding 17,732 BTC, purchased for $175 million, Saylor views Bitcoin as "the apex property of the human race" and has pledged never to sell. His provocative X posts, such as "sell a kidney but keep the Bitcoin," energize Bitcoin maximalists and his 4 million followers. At Bitcoin 2021, alongside Jack Dorsey, he championed Bitcoin's potential as a decentralized store of value. His "21 Rules of Bitcoin," shared on X in February 2025, articulate a philosophy of resilience and long-term thinking, resonating deeply with the crypto community.

MicroStrategy's "intelligent leverage" strategy – raising funds through convertible notes and equity to buy Bitcoin – has drawn both admiration and scrutiny. Investors, fueling a $106 billion market cap, applaud Saylor's foresight, while skeptics like Jim Chanos warn of risks tied to Bitcoin's volatility and corporate debt. Yet, with Bitcoin's value soaring since MicroStrategy's initial $250 million purchase of 21,454 BTC, Saylor's approach has proven lucrative. His ability to navigate market fluctuations underscores his strategic acumen.

Beyond finance, Saylor's Saylor Academy provides free education to millions, reflecting his commitment to global impact. His bestseller, The Mobile Wave, foresaw the rise of mobile technology, cementing his reputation as a visionary. Through conferences, podcasts, and X, Saylor continues to inspire corporate leaders, investors, and crypto enthusiasts, positioning Bitcoin as a cornerstone of financial sovereignty.

Tesla will officially enter the Indian market with its first showroom opening in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex at Maker Maxity Mall on Tuesday. Last Friday, the company teased its launch on its India X account with a "Coming soon" post and a visual pointing to July 2025.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik inspected the new BKC showroom ahead of its inauguration. Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy stated in June that Tesla is not planning to manufacture vehicles in India currently, focusing solely on sales. "They want to sell their car in India. There is no further development about Tesla," he said.

People are seen outside the Tesla showroom ahead of its opening in Mumbai, India, July 15, 2025 (Reuters/Francis Mascarenhas)

According to Mathrubhumi, Tesla is prioritizing vehicle imports and showroom sales over local production. The company has been discreet about its long-term plans in India but began recruiting staff earlier this year to support its market launch.

CEO Elon Musk previously highlighted high import duties as a barrier to investment in India. However, India's recent electric vehicle policy, offering lower duties and incentives, has likely eased Tesla's entry, per Mathrubhumi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Musk held discussions in April about collaboration in technology, following a February meeting in the US.

With its Mumbai showroom, Tesla aims to introduce its premium electric vehicles to India's fast-growing auto market, testing the waters for future expansion.

The escalating confrontation between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump reached new heights Monday as the Tesla CEO threatened to establish a new political party while the president warned of potential government efficiency investigations into the billionaire's federal subsidies. The dispute centers around Trump's major spending legislation that Musk characterized as historically destructive debt expansion.

Following his recent announcement about withdrawing from political activities, Musk immediately re-entered the fray as lawmakers debated Trump's comprehensive policy package, CNN reported. The world's richest individual used his X platform to deliver an ultimatum to congressional Republicans who had pledged fiscal responsibility during their campaigns.

"Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame! And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth," Musk declared on his social media platform, according to CNN.

The SpaceX founder escalated his rhetoric hours later by announcing plans for an entirely new political organization if the legislation advances through Congress. His subsequent post indicated immediate action would follow any passage of what he termed excessive government expenditure.

"Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE," Musk stated in his social media announcemen.

Trump responded with his own late-evening social media assault, targeting Musk's business empire and suggesting the Department of Government Efficiency should examine the tech mogul's federal funding arrangements. The president's Truth Social post directly challenged Musk's financial independence from government support.

Elon Musk shows off his t-shirt reading "Tech Support" while speaking at the first cabinet meeting hosted by US President Donald Trump, at the White House in Washington, DC, February 26, 2025 (Reuters / Brian Snyder)

"Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa. No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!" Trump wrote on his platform, CNN reported.

The current dispute represents the continuation of weeks-long opposition from Musk regarding Trump's policy framework, which previously resulted in a highly publicized disagreement between the two figures earlier this month. Musk's social media activity from recent weeks had already suggested the possibility of establishing an alternative political organization.

Monday's renewed declaration from Musk specifically referenced the spending bill's impact on national debt levels. His characterization of the current political system reflected deep frustration with what he perceived as bipartisan fiscal irresponsibility.

"It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!! Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people," Musk posted, according to CNN.

Musk's commitment to supporting primary challengers against incumbent lawmakers represents his most substantial political intervention since departing his White House advisory position. The entrepreneur invested over $275 million supporting Trump and Republican candidates during the 2024 electoral cycle. His May interview statements indicated intentions to reduce political expenditures, claiming he had "done enough."

Federal Election Commission records show Musk's America PAC most recently contributed funds in March, supporting Republican candidates Randy Fine and Jimmy Patronis in Florida special elections, CNN reported.

Musk's policy positions have historically aligned with Trump administration priorities including border security, deportation enforcement, and illegal immigration prevention measures.

However, the domestic spending legislation appears to have created significant tension between the Tesla executive and White House leadership. Musk has consistently argued that Republican policy proposals will expand national debt obligations, describing the situation as "debt slavery."

Congressional Budget Office analysis released Sunday estimates the Senate legislation would increase the deficit by approximately $3.3 trillion over the coming decade. The Senate version carries higher costs than House-approved measures, which would add $2.4 trillion to deficit projections over ten years.

The Senate proposal includes more substantial tax reductions, fewer spending decreases, and additional revenue-generating provisions. White House officials have defended the legislation as deficit-reducing while promoting economic expansion, CNN reported.

Trump administration representatives and specific Senate Republicans have chosen not to incorporate the cost of extending 2017 tax cuts when calculating the bill's deficit impact.

While Musk has stated that opposition to the legislation does not stem from electric vehicle and solar energy subsidy eliminations, he has criticized the bill for "gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future."

Trump's Truth Social response included a defense of his electric vehicle mandate position, emphasizing his campaign commitments regarding automotive regulations.

"Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate. It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one," Trump stated, according to CNN.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk expressed regret on Wednesday for social media posts he made last week that sparked a public dispute with US President Donald Trump. The falling out was triggered by Trump's efforts to pass the "Big Beautiful Deal" that would have increased the US expenditures, which made Musk furious because of his crusade against wasteful spending.

This clash, which became personal on X, disrupted a once-close alliance that positioned Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, an initiative focused on reducing federal spending in Trump's second term.

The tech entrepreneur acknowledged on his X social media network that his previous commentary had crossed boundaries. "I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far," Musk stated on the platform.

The conflict had escalated to such an extent that by Saturday, Musk had apparently removed several of his controversial social media posts that had intensified tensions with the administration. Among the deleted content was a post in which he had allegedly referenced Trump's connection to documents related to deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein, an accusation the White House had rejected.

The high-profile disagreement played out across both X and Truth Social, the respective social media platforms controlled by Musk and Trump. During the height of the dispute, the president had signaled that he was going to reconsider ending government contracts and financial support provided to Musk's various business enterprises, most notably by potentially stifling crucial regulatory approvals for Tesla's electric vehicle, whose rise in the US is dependent only being allowed to have driverless cars on the interstate freeways.

Market analysts had been closely monitoring the situation due to concerns about how continued friction might affect the substantial government relationships maintained by both Tesla and SpaceX – companies where Elon is a senior executives

The special agency called Department of Government Efficiency, which Musk ran until earlier this month, was a key component of Trump's plans for reducing federal spending and bureaucracy.

CNBC reported that Tesla's stock plummeted 14% on Thursday after President Donald Trump threatened to terminate government contracts for companies led by Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk. The sharp decline erased $152 billion from Tesla's market capitalization, dropping it below the $1 trillion threshold to $916 billion, marking the company's largest single-day loss ever.

The dispute intensified over a spending bill, with Trump accusing Musk of overreacting to the removal of electric vehicle mandates. "Elon was 'wearing thin,' I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!" Trump posted on Truth Social.

From the Oval Office, Trump elaborated on the strained relationship. "Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore," Trump said on Thursday. "I was surprised." CNBC noted that Trump highlighted Musk's frustration over the exclusion of electric vehicle credits from the bill.

Musk responded sharply during Trump's remarks. "Whatever," Musk fired back as the president spoke. He escalated the feud on X, asserting, "Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate." He also claimed that the sealed files on the sex scandal involving Jeffrey Epstein have not been fully released because the president's supposed ties to him.

"Time to drop the really big bomb. [Trump] is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!" Musk tweeted. "Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out." Musk also shared a tweet calling for Trump's impeachment and having his vice president, JD Vance step in.

CNBC reported that Musk, the world's wealthiest individual, recently criticized the spending bill as a "disgusting abomination" and threatened to fund primary challenges against lawmakers supporting it. This marked a shift from his earlier alignment with the Trump administration.

Despite a 22% stock rally in May, Tesla's shares have declined nearly 18% this week, driven by Musk's vocal opposition to the budget legislation. CNBC indicated that the stock is down approximately 30% this year, far from its peak of $488.54 on December 18.

Musk's role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency concluded on Friday, after which his criticisms of Trump's tax-cut bill intensified. He posted numerous attacks on X on Wednesday, targeting provisions that would eliminate electric vehicle and residential solar tax credits, key profit drivers for Tesla.

The bill also introduces a $250 annual fee for electric vehicle owners, further impacting Tesla's market. CNBC highlighted Musk's efforts to lobby Trump and other Republican officials to amend these provisions.

Tesla faces broader challenges, including declining electric vehicle sales in major European markets and a weakening brand reputation in Western countries. The company is also racing to launch a driverless ride-hailing service in Austin, Texas, this month, competing with Waymo's established robotaxi operations in partnership with Uber.

Author Walter Isaacson, who wrote a biography on Musk, commented on CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Thursday. "One of the things about Elon is when he goes all in, he goes all in," Walter Isaacson said. He noted Musk's intense frustration with the situation.

Isaacson also pointed to Musk's irritation with Trump administration officials who opposed the nomination of Jared Isaacman for NASA leadership. "That, to Musk, was just infuriating because they were doing, they were going after Jared Isaacman ... to get at Musk," Walter Isaacson said on Thursday.

CNBC reported that Jared Isaacman's nomination was withdrawn over the weekend. Isaacman, who led two private SpaceX missions in 2021 and 2024, had his company Shift4 invest $27.5 million in SpaceX by June 30, 2021, according to financial filings.

The fallout reflects growing tensions between Musk and the Trump administration, with Tesla's financial performance bearing the brunt of the conflict. The company's stock chart shows a steep decline, underscoring the market's reaction to the ongoing dispute.

Authorities said damage at a Tesla service center in Las Vegas on Tuesday, including cars set ablaze, had "some of the hallmarks" of terrorism.

Las Vegas police said the person who used Molotov cocktails and shot rounds into the vehicles at the Tesla Collision Center, 6260 Badura Ave., was still on the loose Tuesday afternoon.

Video that captured the attack showed someone dressed in black damaging at least five Teslas — two of which were engulfed in flames — at 2:45 a.m., police said. The word "resist" was also painted on the front doors of the business, police said, and at least three gunshots were fired into the cars.

"This was a targeted attack against a Tesla facility," Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren said at a news briefing on Tuesday. "We do believe that it is isolated at this time."

However, he said the Metropolitan Police Department had increased its presence at Tesla-related locations in the valley as a precaution.

According to police, the person responsible for the attack used multiple incendiary devices to set the Teslas on fire, and one of the devices was found unexploded in a car. The collision center is located near Jones Boulevard and the 215 Beltway in the southwest valley.

Attorney General Pam Bondi released a statement "regarding a spate of recent attacks on Tesla property" on Tuesday.

"The swarm of violent attacks on Tesla property is nothing short of domestic terrorism," Bondi said in the statement.

The Clark County Fire Department and the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force also are investigating the matter. Agents arrived at the scene early Tuesday, according to FBI Special Agent in Charge Spencer Evans.

Evans said that while it was too early to call the attack an act of terrorism, it had "some of the hallmarks" and a "potential political agenda."

"Violent acts like this are unacceptable, regardless of where they occur," Evans said at Tuesday's news briefing.

He urged anyone intending to commit similar acts to "seriously reconsider."

"It's a federal crime," Evans said. "We will come after you. We will find you and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law."

While he said he was aware of reports of incidents in other states, Evans added that it was still too early to know if they were connected.

Leaders react

In a post on X, Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to a video of the burning cars shared by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, saying "this level of violence is insane and deeply wrong."

"Tesla just makes electric cars and has done nothing to deserve these evil attacks," Musk added in his post.

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo, former sheriff of Clark County, replied to the post.

"This type of politically-motivated violence is despicable — and those responsible will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," he wrote.

Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., said she had full confidence in law enforcement.

"Let me be clear: these actions are unacceptable, and I condemn them fully," she wrote on X.

Musk leads the new Department of Government Efficiency, also known as DOGE, and its goal of trimming federal spending has spurred layoffs and closure announcements across the federal workforce in the first few weeks of the second Trump administration.

Cybertruck explosion

Tuesday's attack on Tesla vehicles in Las Vegas follows a Cybertruck explosion outside Trump International in Las Vegas on New Year's Day.

In that incident, authorities have said Matthew Livelsberger, 37, an active-duty military operations sergeant from Colorado who served in the US Army as a Green Beret, shot himself in the head seconds before his rented Tesla Cybertruck exploded.

Seven bystanders were injured as a result of the explosion at the resort near the Strip, according to police.

Authorities have said Livelsberger likely suffered from PTSD and had other "personal grievances."

Other attacks

Other Tesla dealerships around the country have been the targets of destruction and gunfire. The Associated Press reported Friday that a second person was arrested in connection with a string of vandalism at a Colorado Tesla dealership. Gunshots were also fired at an Oregon Tesla dealership on Thursday for the second time in a week. Four Cybertrucks were also destroyed in a fire in Seattle on March 9.

As well, fire damaged two Cybertrucks at a Kansas City Tesla dealership on Monday night, The Kansas City Star reported.

Bondi, in her statement calling the incidents "domestic terrorism," said the Department of Justice "has already charged several perpetrators with that in mind, including in cases that involve charges with five-year mandatory minimum sentences.

"We will continue investigations that impose severe consequences on those involved in these attacks, including those operating behind the scenes to coordinate and fund these crimes," Bondi said in the statement.

On Tuesday, Koren said police did not have anything notable to report on a general increase in vandalism of Teslas around the valley.
