A Jewish-owned real estate office in London's Stamford Hill neighborhood endured a brutal vandalism attack overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, with community leaders condemning it as a clear act of antisemitism.

In the morning, the office revealed a grim scene – windows smashed, computers and furniture wrecked, and red paint poured across the entire space. The pavement outside was defaced with the spray-painted words "Drop Elbit," seemingly referencing the Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems, a defense industry leader.

Rabbi Hershel Gluck, president of the Shomrim organization and a local resident, stated, "This must be treated as an undeniably antisemitic incident. The owners are Jewish, but they have no connection to Israel."

Local footage shared on social media likened the attack to the Holocaust-era attacks on Jews under Nazi rule. "Kristallnacht. Welcome to the Jewish neighborhood of Stamford Hill, where Jews are not allowed to own businesses because Israel is at war with Gaza," one user wrote.

In a bold act of protest, pro-Palestinian activists vandalized the royal palace in Amsterdam, splashing red paint and scrawling "Intifada" on its walls, according to Spiegel Ausland. The group Palestine Action Amsterdam claimed responsibility for the incident, stating it was a message to the Dutch government regarding its support for Israel's actions in Gaza.

Large red splotches and the word "Intifada" in yellow paint are visible on a palace wall in the center of the Dutch capital. The action was intended as a message to the government, the group Palestine Action Amsterdam wrote on Instagram. The red paint stands as a symbol "for the blood of Palestinians flowing through the streets of Gaza." The activists accuse the Dutch government of supporting Israel in, among other things, "genocide" and "settler colonialism."

The royal palace in Amsterdam is used only for ceremonial purposes. However, the choice of target for the paint attack was apparently not random. "This superfluous building symbolizes the colonial system of our nation-state," the activists stated.

The royal family was apparently not directly affected by the incident, as their residence is located in The Hague. This is not the first time pro-Palestinian demonstrators have defaced public buildings in Amsterdam. In November, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum were also vandalized.

According to the newspaper De Telegraaf, the building's administrator, the State Property Agency, responded firmly. "This is vandalism, and that is a criminal offense, so we are reporting it," a spokesperson said.

Illegal migrants in Israel arrested on criminal charges, sometimes dozens of times, continue to commit crimes after being released, new data from the Israel Police obtained by Israel Hayom shows.

Unlike Israeli citizens, who can be tracked by law enforcement agencies, illegal migrants – who live below the official radar – are harder to monitor.

From January 2020 to August 2021, 44 criminal case files were opened on a single migrant man.

"This isn't normal. The country is losing control over them," a law enforcement official told Israel Hayom, discussing the data about crimes committed by the illegal migrant population. "It's not normal that there are illegal residents with over 40 case files against them in a year and a half."

The police data was released in response to a freedom of information request filed by activist group Otef Tahana Merkazit, which is battling to stem the influx of illegal migrants into Israel.

According to the figures, in the past 19 months, police have opened 7,150 criminal cases against 1,531 illegal migrants. Estimates from the Interior Ministry's Population Registry puts the number of adult illegals residing in Israel at approximately 30,000 – meaning that 5.3% of adult illegal migrants have been the subject of a criminal complaint in the past 19 months.

The highest number of complaints against a single illegal migrant stands at 44, but the police data shows that 12 other individuals have been the subject of 30-42 complaints each. Another 42 migrants have been the subject of 20-30 complaints each, and 139 have been the subject of 10-20 complaints each.

There were 537 illegal migrants who had been involved in three to 10 complaints each, and 268 illegal migrants were the subject of two criminal complaints each. Meanwhile, 543 illegal migrants had a single criminal complaint.

"Unlike Israeli citizens, it's much harder to track illegal migrants because they don't have a regular address," a law enforcement official explained. "That makes it difficult for the police to prevent the next crime."

In 2020, the Tel Aviv district saw the most complaints filed against illegal migrants. The most common complaints were public disorder (44.1%); complaints about physical contact and/or attacks (39.9%); and property crimes (25.7%).

Complaints against illegal migrants involving sexual assault and other sexual offenses rose slightly from 2019 (which saw 125 such files opened) to 126 in 2020, the police data showed. The number of complaints involving finances, driving license violations, and administrative violations rose form 109 in 2019 to 114 in 2020.

The number of complaints related to security crimes involving illegal migrants rose from 37 in 2019 to 46 in 2020.

"We've known for years that the [south Tel Aviv neighborhood] Neve Shaanan leads the crime stats in Tel Aviv," a statement from Otef Tahana Merkazit read. 'We also know that Neve Shaanan is patrolled at the same level as east Jerusalem, and we know about every crime that isn't reported in the media," the statement continued.

The organization went on to report rampant "fights and stabbings on a daily basis," as well as "robberies, drug dealing, trade in stolen property, and prostitution" by illegal migrants.

According to the group, "the numbers reported by the Israel Police are just the tip of the iceberg. There are thousands of incidents of crime in the migrant population that aren't reported, including serious domestic violence, and thousands of incidents in which civilians don't complaint or their complaint isn't investigated, including vandalism, rioting, and gangs of kids who roam the streets at night throwing rocks. It's clear to everyone that the police won't really investigate, or that the next day a judge will release the migrant."

The group went on to say that "in Israel, judges don't ignore crime – they encourage crime as long as it doesn't reach their expensive neighborhoods. We demand that Justice Minister [Gideon Sa'ar] and Interior Minister [Ayelet Shaked] convene an urgent meeting of the Knesset Constitution, Law, and Justice committee and invite the president of the Supreme Court. It's time for her and her judges to give us an explanation."

Thieves have stolen an iron cross outside a church in the northern Galilee where Christians believe that Jesus performed the miracle of the loaves and the fishes, a church official reported.

Last week, vandals pried the iron cross out of a basalt rock altar outside the Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes in Tabgha, at the Sea of Galilee, said Georg Roewekamp, as reported by AFP.

Roewekamp, who represents the German Association of the Holy Land that owns the property where the church is located, denounced an "anti-Christian" act.

"It shows that people can invade and desecrate our property," he told AFP.

The Israel Police said it had launched an investigation into the incident.

The church at Tabgha – an Arabization of its original Greek name, Heptapegon – has been targeted before. In 2015, Jewish vandals torched the church, causing extensive damage, and spray-painted graffiti.

Roewekamp said the cross measured some 15 centimeters long (about six inches) and was embedded in a basalt rock altar at an outdoor prayer place on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

He said vandals might have arrived by boat, adding that he had little hope of finding the cross.

"Because the cross was fixed very well in the basalt stone, it was removed … not by coincidence," he added.

On Sunday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called for the current government to be dissolved with new elections to be held on Sept. 20. Among those running for re-election are current ministers of Parliament Rachel Bendayan and Anthony Housefather, both of Montreal. It was their banners that were defaced.

"It is absolutely sickening to see this vile antisemitism targeting Jewish election candidates," said Michael Levitt, president and CEO of Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center. "There's no place for this Jew-hatred in the city of Montreal or anywhere else in Canada. This symbol of hate and genocide must be rejected by all Canadians, regardless of where one stands on the political spectrum."

Reactions came swiftly from the candidates, who on Tuesday posted photos of the vandalized posters online.

Housefather, a Parliament member for Mount Royal, wrote on Twitter: "Pretty sad to see antisemitism hitting the campaign on Day 3. I can assure whoever did this that no swastika is going to scare me or stop me from speaking up for Jewish Canadians."

"Whatever your political views, spreading hateful and violent messages is not the way to go," Bendayan posted on social media. "We've seen the road that the politics of the far-right leads us to in the US and around the world. That is not us. That is not our Canada."

The vandalism comes as Canada deals with high numbers of antisemitic incidents.

"Disgusted by the targeting of Jewish candidates with the most vile of antisemitic symbols of hatred – swastikas," tweeted Irwin Colter, founder and chair of the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights. "There is no room for such antisemitic hate in Canada, or anywhere, and certainly not in a democratic electoral process."

Also concerned about the vandalism is Trudeau, whose government recently held a forum on antisemitism in the country and promised to do more to protect Canadian Jews.

"It is completely unacceptable," Trudeau wrote on Twitter. "I stand in solidarity with Rachel and Anthony, and the entire Jewish community, against this type of hatred."

The Central Board of Jewish Communities said the tomb, in the city of Ioannina, was found on Thursday with the covering slab removed and smashed marble strewn around it.

"We strongly condemn this shameful act of sacrilege which indicates that the hatred of the perpetrators leads to villainous manifestations of violence and fanaticism," the Central Board said in a statement.

It also said that the Jewish cemetery of Ioannina had already been vandalized several times in the past.

"We call upon the relevant authorities to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice," the statement said. "The Jewish cemetery of Ioannina is ... a place of memory and cultural heritage for the city of Ioannina as a whole."

The city once had a thriving Jewish community that was decimated during World War II, when occupying Nazi forces deported Jewish residents to death camps. In 2019, Ioannina elected Moses Elisaf as its mayor. He is believed to be the first Jewish person elected as a mayor in Greece.

In addition to the swastika, pictures of Shira Banki, who was murdered by an ultra-Orthodox man while attending the 2015 Jerusalem Pride Parade were also strewn about at the entrance to the synagogue.

In a statement, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett called the vandalism a "grave act of hatred and incitement."

He said: "Such contempt for the holy of holies in Israel, including the criminal use of the picture of the young woman who was murdered, Shira Banki, is a contemptible and evil act. We will not remain silent. The police will hold the perpetrators accountable and we will settle the score with them. Ahead of the [Hebrew] month of Elul [in which Jews repent in spiritual preparation for the High Holidays], the Jewish people must come together and show blind love to one another."

Public Security Minister Omer Bar-Lev condemned the incident on Twitter, saying: "The vandals who vandalized the synagogue in Bnei Brak with swastikas and further dared to defile the image of Shira Banki, a girl who was full of light, beauty, and love of the other, we will get our hands on you and you will pay the price. For shame!"

Worshippers at the synagogue were in a state of shock, representatives for Rabbi Asher Landau, who heads the synagogue, said in a statement.

Noting many worshippers at Young Israel are Holocaust survivors, they said the synagogue had raised the banner of unity and rapprochement and its worshippers included congregants from many different ethnic backgrounds and circles of life.

"Rabbi Landau calls on everyone to respect and love one another and to honor the sanctity of the Torah and the land, and he added he expects this shocking and unfortunate incident to be condemned by all rabbis and leaders in a dialogue that contributes to unity and not, heaven forbid, sectarianism.

United Torah Judaism MK Yakov Asher said the "unruly hooliganism and spray painting of swastikas at the synagogue in Bnei Brak on Shabbat are the rotten fruits of ongoing and unrestrained incitement against anything that smells like Judaism, and Haredim are dripping in it. I hope I succeed in advancing the amendment to the anti-racism law so that inciters are punished and effective deterrence is created."

Yaakov Vider, chairman of the Bnei Brak Municipality's Likud faction, said: "We take the incident very seriously! Spray painting swastikas on a Zionist synagogue in the city is reminiscent of very dark days in the Jewish people's history."

Vider said he expected the Israel Police to quickly handle the incident so that those responsible for the incident are quickly caught and face the full severity of the law."

The Jewish cemetery in the city of Wroclaw in southwest Poland was recently vandalized, with dozens of headstones toppled by a group of 12-year-olds who wanted to build a fort.

Follow Israel Hayom on Facebook and Twitter

The incident took place last week. Local police arrived at the cemetery and discovered a group of five children using a hammer to knock down headstones and break them apart. Some had already been completely smashed, while others were only partly damaged.

In total, 63 headstones had been destroyed, 20 of which were targeted on the day the children were caught in the act.

The children were taken to the police station and questioned with their parents present. There were no indications that the vandalism was antisemitic in nature.

However, in 2019, the same cemetery was targeted when anonymous vandals spray-painted "Jesus is king" on its walls.

The Jewish community of Wroclaw, also known as Breslav, is one of the oldest in Europe, dating to the 13th century. One of the headstones in the cemetery is dated 1203, the earliest evidence of Jewish life in Poland.

In 1933, when the Nazis rose to power, Wroclaw was home to some 20,000 Jews, but that number plummeted by half after Kristallnacht, when all the city's synagogues were destroyed. Most of the Jews who still lived in Wroclaw when World War II broke out were murdered in the Holocaust.

In Cincinnati, hundreds attended the "Under the Tent, Standing Against Antisemitism" event to stand in solidarity against Jew-hatred in Ohio and elsewhere.

"We join together as Jews and allies to send a strong message that we will not tolerate hate and antisemitism in any form," said Gary Greenberg, former president of the Jewish Federation, who said a university student was assaulted because he had Hebrew lettering on his shirt.

"Sadly, we are witnessing a disturbing rise in antisemitism and violent attacks against Jews in broad daylight in cities across America, including, unfortunately, in Cincinnati. We must also have zero tolerance for antisemitism, just as we should have zero tolerance for any other form of bigotry."

The event was sponsored, among others, by the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati and the Jewish Community Relations Council of Cincinnati.

Meanwhile, the rally in Tucson, Arizona, came after two local congregations were vandalized in recent weeks.

Some 200 people, including Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, State Representative Alma Hernandez and others local dignitaries, assembled at the Chabad on River. Carrying blue-and-white posters that had a Jewish star on them and read "Tucson Jews for Justice," participants marched to the nearby Jewish Community Center.

"Antisemitism has no place in Tucson or anywhere for that matter," Romero tweeted along with a photo of herself at the rally. "We have a moral imperative to speak out unequivocally against it in all of its forms."

The Chabad on River, one of several Chabad Houses in the region, was the recent target of antisemitic graffiti that included a swastika and derogatory terms drawn on the building. Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

Also vandalized within the last month was Congregation Chaverim in Tucson, where Hernandez, the state legislator who helped organize the rally, is a member. Speaking during the rally, she said: "It's really sad to see that so many folks have used antisemitism to target the Jewish community for no other reason than us being Jews."

Surveillance video showed several masked people enter the synagogue at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday after smashing one of the windows. The suspects left several Palestinian flags and antisemitic banners behind.

Steve Hoffman, the former president of the synagogue, told reporters that no one was in the building at the time, and therefore, no one was injured. He also said they had hired security to protect the place of worship.

Lonnie J. Nasatir, President of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, said: "This was clearly not freedom of speech, this went right into actually a real assault, and quite frankly, a terrorist act on a religious place of worship.

Local police said they were investigating the hate crime.

"The authorities are taking this incident seriously and we are working hard with the local authorities and the Jewish organization to put an end to such incidents," Daniel Aschheim, Consul for Public Diplomacy at Israeli consulate in Chicago, told Israel Hayom.
