Amid rising tensions, Israeli Air Force jets and other aircraft attacked several targets in the northern Gaza Strip early Sunday, including a military compound in the north of the Strip and two naval vessels belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization.

There was no immediate word on casualties from the strikes, which came after Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired a rocket at the Eshkol region in southern Israel on Saturday night.

Palestinian media reported several Israeli strikes around 1:30 a.m. in the northern Strip near Beit Lahia, including on a seaside site known as al-Waha.

The IDF said the strikes were in response to the rocket attack, as well as "continuing terror activities from the Strip, including balloon explosives and causing harm to security infrastructure in the last several days.

"Hamas is responsible for everything that happens in and comes out of the Gaza Strip," the IDF said.

Also Saturday, sappers were summoned after a cluster of balloons suspected to be carrying an explosive device, possibly an anti-tank warhead, landed on the Israeli side of the border fence.

Meanwhile, residents of the Hof Ashkelon region north of Gaza said Saturday they found a spent bullet shell, possibly from a Kalashnikov rifle, in their living room, seemingly confirming that a large hole torn through an outside wall on Thursday had been caused by gunfire from Gaza.

On Friday, one Palestinian was killed and 42 were wounded while taking part in weekly riots along the Gaza border, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said.

The IDF said over 8,000 Palestinians took part in the demonstration, during which rocks and improvised explosives were thrown at soldiers on duty. Some of the rioters tried to breach the border fence.

An IDF spokesman said soldiers "responded with riot dispersal means and fired in accordance with standard operating procedures."

The IDF also said it detained two Palestinians shortly after they crossed the border from Gaza. They were hiding a grenade and a knife in their clothes, the military said.

Egyptian officials, who have frequently brokered cease-fires between Israel and Hamas, have been shuttling between the sides to try to restore calm, a Palestinian official told Reuters.

The Israeli Air Force attacked Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday after makeshift bombs flown into Israel exploded near several communities.

"Israel holds Hamas accountable for everything that takes place in the Gaza Strip and coming from it," the Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson's Unit said in a statement.

One of the devices flown from Gaza, which was attached to several balloons, landed in a nearby kibbutz and detonated. No injuries were reported.

Another such device exploded near a building in another border community, causing no damage or injuries. In two other instances, the devices detonated while being airborne.

Riots continued along the Gaza border fence on Tuesday, with some protesters using grenades and improvised explosive devices to target Israeli troops.

Meanwhile, Palestinian sources reported Tuesday that members of the Egyptian intelligence arrived in Gaza on Tuesday to help broker a truce with Israel.

The Egyptian delegation met with senior Hamas figures, including senior Hamas military leader Yahya Sinwar.

The High Court of Justice rejected on Monday a petition filed by the family of terrorist Assam Barghouti – who carried out the shooting attack at the Givat Asaf outpost that killed IDF soldiers Sgt. Yosef Cohen and Staff Sgt. Yovel Mor Yosef and was involved in a shooting at an intersection outside the Ofra settlement that left seven Israelis wounded, including Shira Ish-Ran, who was 30 weeks pregnant and whose son, Aviad Yisrael, died days after being delivered in an emergency cesarean section – against the planned demolition of Barghouti's home.

Justice Neal Hendel wrote in his ruling: "I will suffice by saying that the classified material I reviewed, with the agreement of the petitioners, unequivocally supports the possibility [of demolition], and demonstrates that the deterrent effect is still viable.

"I will add that the material submitted is thorough and balanced, and in certain senses even surprising," Hendel wrote.

Mor Yosef's mother, Ilanit, said, "Until I see the home demolished, I won't believe anything. I want to see them demolish his [Barghouti's] home with my own eyes. It's already too late; it should have been done already."

An Israel Defense Forces aircraft attacked a Hamas outpost in the southern Gaza Strip on Saturday after an incendiary device was flown into a nearby Israeli community.

The incendiary device was attached to balloons but did not cause any damage.

On Friday, some 8,000 protesters resumed the weekly demonstrations against Israel along the border fence along the Gaza Strip, throwing grenades and improvised explosive devices toward Israeli troops.

Some protesters also tried to cross into Israel. According to Palestinian officials, 11 protesters sustained moderate wounds.

The weekly demonstrations will mark their one-year anniversary at the end of the month. IDF Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi considers the Gaza theater to be particularly combustible and has recently instructed troops to gear up readiness for a potential flare-up.

Israeli warplanes struck numerous Hamas posts in southern Gaza late Wednesday night after a small bomb attached to a bundle of balloons was launched into Israel from the Hamas-controlled coastal enclave.

The explosive device damaged the front window of a home in the Eshkol region.

No casualties were reported.

The bomb exploded near the home of Rachel Danzig, whose home was almost hit by a rocket fired from Gaza during the previous spat of hostilities.

"I'm shaking right now," she said. "The balloon exploded next to my house, I thought it was literally inside the house. It's scary because there's no deterrence. My neighbor has a hole in her garden, glass is shattered all over my home and everything moved from the blast. I'm still traumatized by the first time. My neighbor is absolutely frightened. She's 70 years old and is in shock.

"Over the past three weeks, they [Palestinians in Gaza] have launched a lot of balloons and because they do it at night, it's hard to stop it. People could get hurt," Danzig said.

"The Hamas terrorist organization bears responsibility for anything that occurs in the Gaza Strip and for all the consequences of its terrorist activity there," the IDF said in a statement.

Thirty-three testimonies of IDF combat soldiers were set to be submitted to the International Criminal Court in The Hague on Thursday as proof that Hamas terrorists carry out war crimes and use Palestinian civilians as human shields.

For months, members of the My Truth organization have collected testimonies from Israeli combat soldiers that paint a shocking picture of Hamas' activities in the Gaza Strip spanning from 2014 - the year when the Palestinian Authority became a party to the ICC's Rome Statute treaty - to 2018, when thousands of Gazans took part in the violent Hamas-organized "marches of return" on the border with Israel.

This will be the first time detailed testimonies from IDF soldiers who served in the field have been submitted to the ICC.

My Truth founder Avichai Shorshon said, "We've decided to move from defense to offense."

Israel Hayom has seen some of the testimonies, which seek to change the court's approach toward Israel.

The soldiers' testimonies describe how Palestinian children are used as human shields and ambulances are used to transport weapons, as well as other war crimes.

One soldier who fought in Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014 describes how "while running, I turn around and see a kid, who I believe was around 10 years old, tied up. It looked like the kids completely lacked self-awareness and stood [by] nonchalantly as shells and missiles fell in the background."

The soldier said, "It could be that Hamas tied him up at that spot because there was something very specific in that building."

In another testimony describing an incident that took place during the border protests this past summer, a solider recounts that "a terrorist threw a grenade at our jeep. As soon as he realized he had been seen, he grabbed a child and held on to him tightly, so we wouldn't fire at him."

Attorney Uri Morad, who heads the Jerusalem Institute of Justice's legal department, was preparing to submit the soldiers' accounts. He also plans to submit testimonies that implicate Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in crimes against his people, as well as a request to open a criminal investigation into the Palestinian leader for those alleged crimes.

In September, Israel Hayom reported that the JIJ had filed a lawsuit against Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh accusing him of actively exploiting children under 15 for military purposes, using them as child soldiers, encouraging them to commit and assist in carrying out terrorist attacks, and using them as human shields and as military targets.

The testimonies collected from IDF soldiers in recent months are expected to bolster the lawsuit against Haniyeh.

"The International Criminal Court now has a rare opportunity to send the world a message that torture and similar acts are unacceptable," Morad said.

The Nahal Brigade soldier who was wounded Sunday evening when an improvised bomb was thrown at troops during a riot in the northern part of the Gaza Strip is a lone soldier who left his family in California to move to Israel and enlist in the IDF.

A year and a half ago, Yoadd Zaguri bid farewell to his family, who have a business in Los Angeles, and moved to Israel.

"He insisted on coming to Israel to make a contribution and join the army," said Zaguri's aunt, Yardena Ben-Avraham.

"He passed the sniper's course and became an outstanding soldier," Ben-Avraham added.

"It was very hard for his parents when he enlisted. He worked with his dad at their business. He was a great athlete … and surfed a lot, and still decided to give it all up and come here. They [his parents] insisted that he not enlist, but he was determined to.

"When his parents were worried, Yoadd would calm them down and tell them everything was all right. That he's still alive means everything," Ben-Avraham said.

On Sunday, Zaguri was hospitalized in Ashkelon with shrapnel wounds to his neck. On Monday, he was in an induced coma and on a ventilator at Barzilai Medical Center.

Ella Avimor, Zaguri's girlfriend, said that at first, she thought he had merely sustained light wounds.

"It's really hard for me to understand what happened. I heard 'shrapnel' and I thought it was a scratch. I was really optimistic. Then I realized it was his neck and a little more serious. I left [my] base and got to the hospital at three in the morning. I saw him and realized it was much worse than I thought. I thought I'd get there and we'd go home, but that isn't what happened," Avimor said.

Avimor and Zaguri met via mutual friends.

"He's my best friend. We've been together a year and five months," she said.

Zaguri's parents were on their way to Israel.

"They got a call from the army. His parents are really worried," Ben-Avraham said, adding that Zaguri's mother and father were due to arrive on Tuesday.

An IDF soldier was wounded Sunday evening when a homemade bomb was thrown at IDF forces during riots on the Gaza border.

The soldier was hit in the neck by shrapnel and evacuated to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, where he underwent surgery. He was listed in moderate condition late Sunday night.

In response to the attack, the IDF attacked two Hamas posts in the northern part of the Gaza strip. According to Palestinian reports, one person was killed and eight were wounded in the IDF strikes.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said Sunday that "for an hour, a violent riot has been underway in northern Gaza, during which dozens of rioters burned tires and threw explosive devices at IDF personnel and the border fence.

"IDF tanks attacks Hamas positions in northern Gaza to retaliate for the IDF soldier who was wounded," the IDF said.

On Friday, a border policeman was hit in the leg by a piece of shrapnel after an explosive device was thrown at Border Police forces during riots on the Gaza border. The Border Police responded with shots and riot control measures.

Sirens blared in southern Israel overnight Wednesday after a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip exploded in an open field in the Eshkol region, the IDF confirmed in a statement.

The IDF said one of its tanks fired at a Hamas military post in southern Gaza in response to the rocket attack.

There were no reports of damage or injuries on either side.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the rocket launch. Israel has maintained that it holds Gaza's Hamas rulers for all fire emanating from the territory.

Palestinian news outlets on Wednesday night reported that two additional rockets had been fired from Gaza but landed inside the Strip.

Earlier this week, Lebanese newspaper Al Akhbar reported that a Friday meeting in Gaza between Hamas representatives, the United Nations envoy to the Middle East and Egyptian intelligence officials resulted in an agreement to maintain quiet on the Israeli front.

Meanwhile, according to a Channel 12 news report, Israel has sent messages to Hamas warning it to cease the weekly border riots or risk facing an Israeli military campaign despite the upcoming general election on April 9.

"Hamas was warned – the election is not a restraining factor," Israeli officials reportedly told Hamas via third-party mediators.

Vandalism and theft continue to plague Israeli farmers: Two weeks ago, beekeeper Yinon Arkin discovered that 20 of his hives had been destroyed three months before the honey was collected. The damage is estimated at tens of thousands of shekels.

Arkin, 34, who lives in the settlement Avigayil in the South Hebron Hills, owns hundreds of hives set up at various locations throughout southern Israel. While this latest attack was not the first time his beehives have been vandalized, it was the first time damage the damage has been so severe.

When Arkin arrived at the hives he maintains at Beit Guvrin, he was shocked to find the honeycomb hacked up, the hives scattered, and hundreds of thousands of dead bees.

Arkin's wife, Achinoam, says that a month ago, the couple had five beehives stolen from another location.

"And two years ago, 10 hives were stolen. Two years ago, 70 hives were stolen from a friend of Yinon's in exactly the same area," she says.

What made the latest theft different, Achinoam explains, was the violence with which the hives were broken. "They hacked up all the honeycomb and threw the frames away across a large area. Just collecting it all took time. There are millions of dead bees left behind."

The hives were located not far from Israel's security barrier and a crossing that leads to the Palestinian village Tarqumiyah. Arkin thinks that the hives were stolen by Palestinians.

"It's been this way for years. This is how things are done. They cut up the honeycomb and put it into sacks and smuggle it back to the PA," Arkin says.

Agricultural crime, criminal or terrorist in nature, is rampant throughout Israel. Farmers find themselves helpless in the face of it. The issue is worsened by the fact that insurance companies often refuse to compensate farmers.

"Even though I suffered a severe blow, I'll get back on my feet," Arkin says.

"This was a big part of my hives, but it's a more widespread phenomenon. The government isn't aware of how serious the issue is because we don't report most of the thefts," he said.

"The government doesn't know how to handle agriculture crime or at least include it in insurance that covers natural disasters or [compensate farmers] through property taxes. Either way, a solution must be found," he says.

Many farmers seek the aid of the organization Hashomer Hachadash, which helps them guard their livelihoods.

Amichai Blut, who is in charge of the southern district of Israel for Hashomer Hachadash, told Israel Hayom that "Hashomer Hachadash started work right after we were informed about the incident. Various field units are active in the area, and technological means have also been erected. We won't leave farmers to deal with criminals on their own.

"We are calling on every farmer who has been the victim of agricultural crime to contact us so we can bolster Israeli agriculture and work to implement governability and sovereignty in open areas," Blut said.
