Miriam Feirberg-Ikar, 74, the longtime mayor of Netanya, died after battling cancer in recent years. She had served as mayor since 1998. In the early years of her tenure she confronted organized crime groups in the city and shut down many illegal businesses.

In September 2008 she even had a verbal confrontation with crime figure Francois Abutbul and told him: "You are a knife in Netanya's back."

In 2016 Feirberg-Ikar was arrested on suspicion of corruption offenses. According to the allegations, she received bribes from contractors in exchange for approving construction projects.

In the end, no indictment was filed against her and the case was closed for lack of evidence. Despite the investigation and arrest, Feirberg-Ikar was elected again as mayor.

After 11 years in captivity, Lt. Hadar Goldin is laid to rest at the Kfar Saba military cemetery, accompanied by tens of thousands of people and Israeli flags.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and Givati Brigade Commander Col. Netanel Shamkeh will participate in the ceremony and deliver eulogies alongside family members, including parents Simcha and Leah, brothers Hami and Tzur, sister Ayelet, and Hadar's fiancée Edna Sarusi. Singer Idan Amedi, a family friend who accompanied them throughout their years of struggle, will also participate in the ceremony. The thousands attending the funeral procession will remain outside the cemetery and watch the ceremony on large screens that have been installed in advance.

Kfar Saba Mayor Rafi Saar said, "There are moments that words cannot describe. Lt. Hadar Goldin is laid to rest in his beloved homeland and in the city of Kfar Saba. The municipality and its residents warmly welcome the Goldin family. I send heartfelt condolences to the family, and we will continue to embrace and support them during these hours as well."

"Refrain from desecrating this sacred day"

Ahead of the funeral, the Goldin family issued an appeal to the media not to engage with Hadar's fall, kidnapping, and return in political or partisan contexts. "Hadar was returned to Israel 4,118 days after he fell defending the homeland he loved so much and from which he was kidnapped," the family's statement read. "Please refrain from desecrating this sacred day with political discourse surrounding Hadar's event."

The family requested that we focus on Hadar's positive legacy, as he expressed in a sentence he said during his life: "A person has two options in life – to deal with yourself or to do great things."

Instead of partisan discourse, the family asked to focus, at least today, "on the positive, the optimistic, and what unites all parts of Israeli society."

"Hadar Goldin's humble legacy was in the values he lived," they explained, quoting a sentence of Hadar's that has already become a symbol. "Hadar said an amazing sentence – 'A person has two options in life – to be self-centered or to do great things.'"

Lt. Hadar Goldin, 23, was a fallen hostage kidnapped by Hamas during Operation Protective Edge. He was held in captivity from August 1, 2014, for over 11 years. Hadar's parents, Leah and Simcha Goldin, fought for years for his return for burial in Israel. They launched the campaign to return the hostages long before Israel would understand its meaning.

Hadar was born in February 1991 in Eshar, a mixed settlement of religious and secular residents. He was the younger brother of the eldest daughter, Ayelet, and Hami. Hadar, the firstborn of twins, waited outside the womb for five full minutes until his twin brother Tzur came out. Together, they captured the hearts of kindergarten teachers and educators. Together, they learned to play instruments, draw, and sculpt. Together, they went to the Bnei Akiva movement and transitioned from members to counselors. Together, they attended the "Bnei David" preparatory program in Ali, a pre-military academy.

The well-known model who was arrested on suspicion of involvement in a murder that occurred in her apartment is Lin Peer, who previously served as a state witness in the sex crimes case against modeling agent Shai Avital. Along with Peer, three men were arrested on suspicion of stabbing a man in her apartment in an incident that led to his death after he fell from the apartment window and was killed. Police are now trying to recruit her as a state witness in the murder case.

The incident began around a week and a half ago, when a man's body was found near a building in Petah Tikva where the model lives. The body was sent to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute when the initial assessment was that this was a suicide. At the institute, it became clear that the deceased was the son of a life prisoner who was previously convicted of murdering his wife. But the central finding that led to opening a criminal investigation was the discovery of stab marks on the victim's body. Following this finding, a gag order was imposed on the case, and an investigation began that led to the arrest of the model and the three men.

The investigation reveals a complex picture. The model invited the three men to her apartment, where they consumed drugs together. At a later stage, the victim also arrived at the apartment. According to the suspicion, an argument broke out in the apartment during which the victim was stabbed, and then he fell from the apartment window onto a fence and was killed. In their interrogations, the model and the men claim the man jumped from the window of his own volition and was thus killed, but police suspect he was pushed or fell after being stabbed during the confrontation.

Shai Avital (KOKO)

The detention of the model and the other suspects was extended until Thursday, November 6, when police are expected to request another extension of the detention.

Those in Peer's circle deny her involvement. "She's not connected to the case," sources close to her said. "She was in the apartment but didn't do anything. She's in total shock from the arrest." Attorney Shai Rodeh, representing one of the men, said, "My client denies the suspicions attributed to him, and claims that although he was in the apartment at the time of the murder, he was not involved in the murder itself."

Peer became known to the public previously as one of the key state witnesses in the sex crimes case against modeling agent Avital. She was one of 30 women who filed complaints against him, although ultimately an indictment was filed in only two cases.

In an interview she gave previously, she described the complexity the complainants experienced. "We are 30 women. 30, not one. And there are dozens and hundreds more women behind the scenes. Some of us, like me and others who suffered even more than me for years, were trampled and corrupted mentally every day." Peer expressed fear at the time of revenge from Avital. "I pray to the creator of the world that he won't take revenge. This person trampled my life, and the lives of so many other women."

The model herself is now in custody suspected of involvement in a murder case, while the investigation continues under a gag order.

After President Donald Trump ordered strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and helped secure the return of living hostages, Petah Tikva residents hoped the city square once named after him would bear his name again. But the city hall had other plans.

In 2019, during Trump's first presidential term, Petah Tikva Mayor Rami Greenberg decided to rename the central square on the main business street, Haim Ozer, "Donald Trump Square" in recognition of the American president's significant contributions to Israel. The city also built an impressive fountain and placed a US flag next to the Israeli flag. Along with the flags, they installed a sign written in Hebrew and English that read, "Donald Trump Square. The 45th President of the United States and the first to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel."

The square was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by Ministers Israel Katz and Eli Cohen, who served as foreign and economy ministers at the time, as well as then-US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman. The mayor said at the ceremony, "The State of Israel has never had a president as supportive and backing as Donald Trump. We appreciate and value his support for Israel and its residents, and it's fitting that a central square in Israel's fourth-largest city be named after him. President Trump is the first to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and the first to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is an inseparable part of Israel."

But in August 2023, four years after naming the square after him, the sign bearing Trump's name was removed. Later, the square's name was changed to "United States Square."

Now, residents hoped to restore the name to the square. Alon, a city resident, said, "I didn't understand from the beginning why they removed the name after calling the square 'Trump'. It was embarrassing. Now the time has come to fix this."

Noa added, "Even when Trump left the White House, he was still the first president to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. There was no reason to change the name, and now, after he returned to the White House and helped us with Iran and Gaza, they need to restore the name."

The Petah Tikva municipality doesn't intend to restore Trump's name to the square at this time. A source at the municipality told Israel Hayom, "The square's name has already been changed. You can't change the name all the time." Petah Tikva municipality response: "The purpose of naming the square is to honor and express gratitude for the friendship and support of the United States toward Israel in general."

New details surfaced in a murder case involving a model, drug use, and a stabbing incident in Petah Tikva. The probe started a week and a half ago when authorities discovered a man's body near a building where the model lives. The model had previously testified as a witness against a modeling agent in a sex offenses case.

Authorities transported the body to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute with preliminary evaluations indicating suicide. Officials confirmed the man's identity at the institute as the son of a life prisoner convicted of murdering his wife. An additional finding at the institute showed stab marks on the man's body. Based on this discovery, investigators launched a criminal inquiry under a publication ban. Authorities arrested the model and three men during the probe.

The probe shows the model invited three men to her apartment where they used drugs. The victim came to the apartment afterward. Based on the suspicion, an argument broke out in the apartment during which the victim was stabbed, fell from the apartment window onto a fence and died. During questioning, the model and the men maintained the man jumped from the window and died that way, but investigators suspect he was pushed or fell after being stabbed. Authorities extended the arrests of the model and the men until Thursday, when investigators will seek their arraignment.

Sources close to the model stated, "She is not connected to the case. She was in the apartment but didn't do anything. She is in total shock from the arrest." Attorney Shay Roda, representing one of the men, noted, "My client denies the suspicions attributed to him, and claims that although he was in the apartment at the time of the murder, he was not involved in the murder itself."

Thousands attended the funeral procession of deceased hostage Inbar Haiman, who was laid to rest on Friday at Yarkon Cemetery. Participants wore pink as a tribute to Haiman, who was a graffiti artist and was nicknamed "Pink." According to Haiman's friends, the nickname "Pink" symbolizes her favorite color. Among those attending the funeral were President Isaac Herzog, Justice Minister Yariv Levin, and Hostages and Missing Persons Coordinator Gal Hirsch.

Haiman was 27 when she was taken captive by Hamas during the Nova Festival in Re'im and was murdered by the terrorist organization. The announcement of her death came on December 16, 2023. Inbar, a Haifa resident, was a visual communications student and artist. She came to the festival as a "Helper" and was responsible for providing emotional support to festival attendees. She left behind two parents and a brother.

Since her abduction, her family has waged a campaign to return her body for burial in Israel, with the phrase "I'm also a woman, bring me back too," stated against the backdrop of the decision to return women and children first in hostage deals.

Yifat Haiman, Inbar's mother, previously said in the Knesset, "All I'm asking is to kiss her. All the deceased could God forbid disappear. And I won't speak God forbid about the living, who could be murdered. After they abandoned my daughter, I expect the Israeli government to do everything to bring her back in any way."

President Herzog eulogized Inbar, "Here, like the words of the song, you are gathered and returned to us – at the end of Tishrei, after you were torn from us – at the end of another, bitter and terrible Tishrei, by the hand of Satan himself. How did it happen that a child of light, love, and goodness met her death in such cruelty, when the monsters of Hamas drag her to the darkness of the underworld? In what world do parents need to long for two terrible years to merit bringing their beloved daughter to burial? And how did this happen to us in the land of Israel, in our home?"

"For two years, these questions wrench the heart and don't let go. For two years, the sights of that terrible day accompany all of us, when we lie down and when we rise, and the shock doesn't subside. But now, when you are here, and have returned to this land together with other beloved brothers, and when our living brothers also returned to us from Hamas captivity now, perhaps we can begin to breathe a little."

"Of course – we must remember well that the mission is not complete, and that we must not rest nor be silent until the last of our deceased hostages merits proper rest in the homeland."

"Inbar arrived at the Nova Festival to support and accompany the participants, and to extend help to whoever needs it. A therapeutic and noble act. And when the cursed murderers came, Inbar fought them like a lioness with rare courage and boldness. The unique combination in her soul was revealed in full glory."

The president also addressed Haiman's family, "Yifat and Chaim, so beloved – throughout all the days of this campaign, from its very first days, we had the privilege to know you, to be amazed by you. You taught an entire nation what the love of a father and mother is, you taught us what devotion and perseverance are, and you taught us about the power of a noble goal and how much determination and greatness of spirit it brings out of a person. You raised a daughter of splendor, captivating, kind-hearted, brave, and full of beauty, and thus she will be forever engraved in all our memories, and in the history of the nation and the land."

President Herzog concluded his eulogy with an apology to Haiman and the other hostages and their families, "At this occasion, as president of the State of Israel, I ask from you, and from you Inbar, and from all our deceased hostages and their families, forgiveness. Forgiveness that we weren't there for you, forgiveness that we didn't succeed in rescuing, forgiveness that it took us such a long time to return you to us."

First Lady Michal Herzog added, "A tremendous privilege fell to our lot during these two black years, to know you, Yifat and Chaim, and Ido, Aunt Chana, and all the Haiman family. From the first meeting at the President's Residence, and until the brave embrace in recent days at the Nova site, at Hostages Square and in the Knesset, we met a family so delicate, noble and special, that is all devotion and love."

"You were and remain a pink beam of light in very dark, cloudy skies," the first lady said. "And it's clear that Inbar – or by one of her most known names: 'Pink' – drew from you so much beauty and sweetness, which continue to illuminate in the faces of all who love her. In many cultures, it is customary to wear black at such an occasion, but in Inbar's spirit – where the pink that glowed from her stood out so much – you made a beautiful and unique request that we come here dressed in pink. This day is a day of pain, but from here – in Inbar's spirit, we also dream of a new reality: of repair, of healing, of building. Thank you to Inbar and to all of you – the beloved Haiman family – for this precious lesson. May the memory of beloved Inbar be blessed forever, and may her blessed soul and spreader of goodness be bound in the bond of life."

Mother Yifat said, "I didn't believe, after two years, that you would finally return to us. We waited month after month, deal after deal, and in the end, you came last, because you are a personality who helps everyone, who simply waited for all the Nova people to come. My beautiful one, how does a mother part from her daughter after raising her for 27 years? How do you raise such an illuminated and beautiful girl, who helps everyone and always puts herself last. You also helped me, always telling me to do what's good for me, and that I'm the most beautiful in the world. We would sit in a café with phones aside, and you would tell me, 'This is mom time.'"

"We told each other the most hidden secrets," Yifat said. "You are my daughter and also my best friend, and thanks to you, I reconciled with your brother, and we are in the best relationship. And there's no one who doesn't meet you, and you didn't touch them. And everyone tells me that."

"How does a mother bury her daughter, whom she loves so much, full of color and love, who always saw the good in people?" Yifat called out. "How does such a pure girl stay only twenty-seven years? Wonderful, my beautiful one, we've been waiting since October 7 for you to return home. Now, after two terrible years, you've come home to us, and I can finally kiss you and say goodbye to you. My little angel, I promise you we will never forget you, and you will always be in our memory when we see a pink sunset. And I promise you will have a pink tombstone as I promised, so I can talk to you and put a candle and a flower for you."

Chaim, Inbar's father, eulogized, "How is a father supposed to eulogize his daughter? His child? This goes against nature. Children bury their parents, not the opposite. How can I say goodbye to you when I feel as though you're still alive? Thank you for the precious gift you left me that you are alive within me."

"You were a child of infinite giving," Chaim recounted. "A child of freedom, nature, light, and love. I remember the trips every Saturday. I remember you as a little girl. I remember making ponytails for you. If I had known, I would have made the most of every moment. When you chose to be a fighter, we tried to convince you not to do it. But you convinced us, and you became a fighter. You filled the world with your creations," he said. "Sorry it took us so much time to return you. I want to say thank you to the brave soldiers and to the people of Israel who were with us. Without them, we wouldn't have succeeded in bringing you back. We had hoped for a different outcome; even when we received the bitter news, we didn't give up. You always took care of everyone. I love you so much, my child, we will not forget and will not forgive. The struggle is not over until the last hostage is brought to burial. I promise I will come every day to be with you."

Her brother Ido also eulogized her, "My only sister, you are so much for the family and for me. You said you would teach me to do graffiti. Thanks to you, I dare, I explore, I learn." He also shared his longing for his sister, "I see you among the shadows, when I close my eyes, I see you. It's hard to talk about you in the past tense."

Inbar's partner, Noam Alon, also delivered a eulogy: "I'm so sorry for everything that happened to you, no one deserves this. I didn't want to speak too much; it's hard for me anyway. You made me feel things I didn't think I was worthy of. I learned to truly love, all thanks to you. I wanted to ask for forgiveness that I couldn't do more. I don't want them to remember you by the way your life ended. You were a living person, and everyone talks about you being dead for two years already. I want to remember you as you were a week before October 7. You had a crazy and exciting life. Your life was so short, but I'm comforted by the fact that you knew how to live more than anyone else. I will never forget you."

Noor Shani Tachan, Inbar's close friend, said, "I met Inbar in 12th grade in preparation for the service year. It was impossible not to know her. Two years ago, I was informed of your murder in Hamas captivity. I felt a pain that split my soul, that I didn't know I could feel at all. Until that moment, we thought you would return alive.  Since October 7, I've met many of your friends. Your diversity is wide. You were a good person, despite being full of cynicism. You know how to hug, with all your height and your long arms."

Elia and Tehila Harari, a brother and sister from Petah Tikva who maintain a religious lifestyle, are suing the Osher Ad supermarket chain for 75,000 shekels ($21,150).

In the lawsuit filed on Wednesday at the Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court, it was claimed that although Osher Ad markets itself to the ultra-Orthodox community and professes its kashrut to be Mehadrin, it sold a chametz product at its Petah Tikva location during Passover, leading the siblings to eat chametz on the holiday.

The statement of claim asserts "The defendant is a supermarket chain that directs its advertising and services to the ultra-Orthodox sector. The chain prides itself on the Mehadrin kashrut of its products and frequently promotes itself as being tailored to the ultra-Orthodox public."

According to the suit, on April 15, 2025, during the Passover holiday, the brother went to the Petah Tikva branch. "Plaintiff 1 relied on the defendant, as it states that it operates with rabbinic approval and under the supervision of Mehadrin kashrut authorities, and purchased, among other items, a 'gnocchi' product, based on the reasonable and required assumption that it was a kosher for Passover product. No sign on the product shelf or in any other location indicated that the product was chametz."

The siblings prepared and consumed the gnocchi at home. Subsequently, the brother examined the packaging and noticed that wheat flour was listed among the ingredients. "Upon learning of this, the plaintiffs were overcome with astonishment and profound shock. The mere realization that they had consumed chametz during the Passover holiday – an event representing a severe violation of their religious conscience and way of life – caused them intense feelings of distress, insult, and deep sorrow."

The lawsuit claims consumer deception and further, according to the Chametz Law (Prohibition of Chametz), any business owner is prohibited from publicly displaying chametz products during Passover. It was also claimed there was negligence, a violation of autonomy, a breach of disclosure duty, and mental anguish involved. Osher Ad did not provide a response.

A woman was arrested last week on suspicion of trying to drown another woman at Shdot Yam beach in central Israel. Police confirmed Sunday that the two women are daughter-in-law and mother-in-law.

Beachgoers at the time alerted police, reporting that two women were struggling in the water and that one appeared to be drowning.

Officers from the Hadera police station arrived at the scene and began searching for the suspect, who had started swimming out to sea. Meanwhile, the mother-in-law was seen drowning. The woman, a 69-year-old resident of Pardes Hanna, was rescued and taken for medical treatment.

After a search, police located the suspect and arrested her for questioning at the Hadera station. Based on the investigation's needs and its findings, the court extended the suspect's detention until September 8, 2025.

In a joint operation by the Shin Bet and the Police Crime Fighting Unit, authorities arrested Najib Dik, a 25-year-old resident of the Israeli-Arab city of Baqa al-Gharbiyye, located in central Israel, for investigation based on ideological support for the Islamic State terrorist organization (ISIS).

During his interrogation, investigators discovered that he joined the Islamic State terrorist organization as a member while pledging allegiance to the organization and consuming terrorist network content.

The investigation also revealed that due to Najib's religious strengthening and following the war in Gaza, he contemplated attacking security forces. The investigation exposed a troubling picture of expanding trends of Israeli Arab involvement in terrorism recently, and the war's effects on them and their actions.

Thursday, following the completion of comprehensive investigative actions by the police and Shin Bet, an indictment was filed by the Haifa District Attorney's Office.

A mass execution of Syrian soldiers by the Islamic State terror group in Palmyra, Syria

Drew inspiration from beheading videos

According to the indictment filed by attorney Mor Ben Abu from the Haifa District Attorney's Office, beginning in February this year, the defendant displayed a growing interest in ISIS and its activities. He regularly watched videos and content on social networks and Telegram groups identified with the organization, including execution and combat videos from Syria and Iraq.

At a later stage, it is alleged that the defendant watched a video containing the text of the oath to the organization, read aloud the text of the declaration while mentioning the name of ISIS's current leader, thereby swearing allegiance to the organization and considering himself a member of it. Subsequently, he examined the possibility of traveling to Somalia in order to join ISIS terrorists.

According to the indictment, in April and May, the defendant drove several times in his car near the settlement of Maor, listened to jihadist songs, and considered detonating an explosive device at a kiosk where soldiers stay. The prosecution attributes to him charges of membership in a terrorist organization.

31 high school students who went on a trip to death camps in Poland are suing Israir airline for 108,000 shekels "for significant delay and emotional distress," according to the lawsuit.

In the lawsuit filed on Wednesday at the Kfar Saba Magistrate Court, it's claimed that the students were part of a Ministry of Education delegation and were supposed to return to Israel from Warsaw Airport on December 8, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. After they passed passport control, they were put on a bus toward the plane, but were returned to the terminal due to a flight delay. The flight was postponed again and again until around two in the morning they were told the flight was cancelled.

The lawsuit states: "During the waiting time at the airport between 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., the plaintiffs were not given drink vouchers and sandwiches, and they had to purchase them with their own money. Worse still, this was an official Ministry of Education delegation, when it's known that among the plaintiffs are kosher observant students who practically couldn't eat anything during the wait, since kosher food couldn't be purchased at the Warsaw airport."

At 2:00 a.m., they were transported to a hotel while their luggage remained on the plane. At the hotel, they didn't have their toiletries or a change of clothes. The lawsuit states: "There were diabetic minors whose insulin injections were in the luggage, which created a serious problem and health danger for them."

At 4:00 a.m., they were required to wake up for the flight, but this time, too, it was delayed and ultimately departed only at 8:30 a.m. Again, it's claimed they didn't provide the students with kosher sandwiches and were given vouchers worth 30 zloty, but they had no option to purchase kosher food at the airport." The lawsuit claims that Israir should compensate the students for the significant flight delay, the expenses they incurred, and the emotional distress they suffered. Israir has not yet filed a statement of defense. Israir stated: "The lawsuit has not yet been properly served to the company; if and when it is served, we will respond accordingly to the court."
