Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay recently shared a harrowing experience that left him shaken and bruised. In a video posted on his social media channels, the renowned restaurateur lifted his chef's uniform to reveal purple bruising covering his torso, an injury that required hospital treatment.

Known for his popular shows like "Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares" and "Hell's Kitchen," Ramsey addressed fathers ahead of Father's Day. "I want to wish you all a happy Father's Day, but please, please, please wear a helmet. If I hadn't, honestly, I wouldn't be here now," Ramsay cautioned, underscoring the severity of the incident.

On his Instagram account, Ramsay also shared before and after photographs, showcasing the substantial damage to his helmet, a testament to the accident's intensity.

The chef revealed that the cycling mishap occurred several days ago in Connecticut. He expressed gratitude to the trauma surgeons and nurses at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for their care and attention.

While Ramsay clarified that he did not suffer any broken bones or major injuries, he described himself as "a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato" and acknowledged the pain and challenges he faced during the "brutal week" following the accident.

The Daily Star reported on a shocking incident at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport. According to the report, an individual whose identity has not yet been released was sucked into the engine of an Embraer 175 aircraft belonging to the KLM airline in full view of many stunned passengers.

The report indicated that the person who was sucked into the engine presumably died in the incident, and at this stage, it is unclear whether it was a passenger or an employee at the Dutch airport, the British Sun reported. The flight was supposed to depart from Amsterdam to Denmark and was delayed due to the serious incident.

This is not the first time a passenger has been sucked into an airplane engine. When a passenger plane's engine is operating at high power, it can suck in heavy objects and, unfortunately, as in this case, even people. As a result, there are clear procedures for operating engines at different power levels at airports to prevent such incidents.

The local police addressed the case and issued a statement: "An unusual incident occurred today at Schiphol Airport, during which a person was sucked into an airplane engine and died. There is an investigation underway to try and understand the circumstances of the incident."

The Israeli Air Force can already determine with great certainty what happened to the helicopter that crashed off the coast of Haifa Monday night: a major and sudden malfunction in the left engine led to an emergency landing and the fatal outcome of the event.

It is not always possible to draw such conclusions so quickly and decisively. An investigation often requires time for evidence and testimony to be collected. In this instance, the air force succeeded in connecting the dots very quickly. Obviously, the fact that the naval captain accompanying the mission survived and testified about what happened in the fatal seconds when a routine flight turned into a nightmare also played a role.

It seems that from the moment they experienced the technical malfunction, the crew members conducted themselves in an optimal manner. Despite the malfunction, which was also accompanied by an electric shortage, they succeeded in landing the helicopter on water and making it float. A Eurocopter AS565 Panther, known in the IDF as "Atalef," or bat, is built to do just that, and crews are trained for such operations, which naturally are more complicated in the dark of night and under the extreme conditions of the kind of complex, multi-system failure they were forced to contend with that night.

The investigation will focus on why the pilots were unable to make it out of the helicopter alive. They appear to have sustained the brunt of the force of impact when the helicopter landed in the water. The fact that the naval officer sustained only moderate injuries could indicate something else was responsible for their deaths. In the Israel Defense Forces, it is customary to return air teams to routine operations as soon as possible after a crash so that they do not develop trauma, although it has yet to be determined whether this will be done in this case. At any rate, the naval officer, who broke one of his ribs, will require extensive rehabilitation before he is fit to return for duty.

Eurocopter AS565 Panthers have a very good safety record. The IDF has been using the aircraft for 25 years. Throughout that time, one tragic accident took place in September 1996, when a helicopter crashed on the shores of Nahariya during a training flight at night. Two crew members, Lt. Col. Benzion Bachar and Capt. Shachak Sela, as well as naval officer Capt. Eran Garbia were killed in the crash. Garbia's remains have not been found to this day. Another helicopter was hit with a missile fired by Hezbollah at an Israeli naval vessel during the 2006 Second Lebanon War and was brought back into service after repairs.

Eurocopter AS565 Panthers serve both the air force and the navy. The air force is responsible for operating and maintaining the aircraft as well as training crew members, while the navy is responsible for the missions. The helicopters, which land on Sa'ar 5- and 6- class warships that should become operational in the coming years, allow the navy to expand its range of operational activity; locate threats on land, at sea, and underwater; and carry out various offshore search-and-rescue operations.

The Israeli Air Force has grounded all Eurocopter AS565 Panthers pending full clarification of Monday's incident to ensure there are no issues with the aircraft. This is a routine step that is taken after every crash and sometimes even after near-misses. This is in accordance with the air force's strict adherence to safety procedures, which has led to a significant decrease in crashes and injuries in recent decades. The last accident happened 14 months ago, when the Grob G-120 "Snunit" (Swallow) carrying Cpl. Lihu Ben-Bassa, 19, and Maj. Itay Zaiden, 42, crashed in southern Israel during a training flight. Ben-Bassa and Zaiden were both killed in the accident.

Yet we should also look at this fatal crash from another angle: The IDF in recent years has been the target of increasing criticism from the Israeli public, or in other words, has lost the public's trust. There will likely be evidence of the continuation of this trend in the Israel Democracy Institute's annual report, which it is set to publish on Wednesday.

The consensus around the IDF appears to increase only in times of crisis, such as wars or operations, or when there are casualties. The rest of the time, the IDF serves as a convenient punching bag. Even if some of the criticism is justified, we must not forget that those at the heart of security efforts have chosen to dedicate their lives to maintaining the security of the state and its citizens. Lt. Col. Erez Sachyani and Maj. Chen Fogel paid for that Monday with their lives in what was another painful reminder of the heavy price there is to pay for defending this country and those in it.

Seven people who leapt from the burning bus were rushed to a hospital in capital Sofia and were in stable condition, hospital staff said. The Bulgarian Interior Ministry said it was the most deadly bus accident in the country's history.

"The scene is terrifying, terrifying. I have never seen anything like that before," Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov told reporters.

The cause of the accident was unclear but the bus appeared to have hit a highway barrier either before or after it caught fire, Bulgarian officials said.

On Monday morning, at the peak of Mottarone mountain in Italy, operations began to remove the cable car from the tragedy that killed 14 people in May, including 5-year-old Israeli Eitan Biran's parents, brother and great-grandparents.

Over the past several days, firefighters cut down approximately 80 surrounding trees in order to effectively remove the cable car via helicopter.

A complex undertaking, it is expected to take anywhere between 7 to 10 days.

Italian police had arrested three people in connection with the Stresa-Mottarone cable car crash, whose 14 victims included nearly an entire Israeli family.

Site manager Luigi Nerini, business manager Enrico Perocchio, and chief engineer Gabriele Tadini had all been taken into custody after investigators determined that the cable car's brake system was faulty.

District prosecutor Olimpia Bossi said that the three had known about the technical problem prior to the crash, alleging that they had been aware that the car was operating without brakes since April 26.

Eugenio Corrias contributed to this report.

Investigators believe the woman, identified as Tamar Fenigstein from Petach Tikva, may have fallen on the path of the Jerusalem tram after experiencing an epileptic seizure.

A passerby who called first responders told the emergency operator that "a woman has been run over by the Jerusalem light rail, she is trapped." Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

The tragic incident took place while she was with four friends, who witnessed her horrific death. They were later hospitalized after suffering from shock.

Fenigstein is the first person to have been killed by the light rail in the city since its inauguration some 10 years ago.

A little over a day after Asher Hazut, 14, suffered critical injuries when he was hit by lightning at Zikim Beach on Israel's southern coast, he succumbed to his injuries Wednesday at Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, where medical staff had been battling to save his life.

Hazut was laid to rest in Beersheba Wednesday evening. Thousands attended his funeral.

Follow Israel Hayom on Facebook and Twitter

Bezalel Hazut, Asher's brother, said, "He was a good Torah scholar and I hope things will be good for him in Heaven."

Asher's sister-in-law Efrat, 30, was also injured in the lightning strike on Tuesday and is still hospitalized in serious condition, also at Barzilai Medical Center. Three other family members were injured to various degrees.

On Wednesday, messages exchanged by family members who were not with Asher and the others at the beach were made public. The first message includes a link to a news item about the lightning strike. One member of the messaging group asks, "Who is critically injured???"

The messages continue to try and clarify who had been injured, if at all. One reads, "Mom and Dad aren't answering, call Elazar [Asher's brother, who sustained moderate injuries from the lightning]."

Itamar Hazut, whose brother and sister-in-law were among the injured, recalled the events and his injured brother's heroic actions immediately after the strike: "My brother was resuscitating his wife, and tried to take care of the other three brothers, all while his hand and leg were paralyzed. They were about to head home when the lightning bolt struck them all."

Itamar, who was not with them at the beach, said, "They were walking in a line, and then everyone was thrown. My older brother Elazar was resuscitating his wife, Efrat, and saw that she was unconscious. While he was resuscitating her, he went back to our younger brothers to help them. He was calling for help, people called an ambulance, and somehow he managed to help the injured with a paralyzed arm, a paralyzed leg, and in a weakened state."

Asher's mother said her children enjoy spending time at the beach.

"They went out to have a beach day, have fun, calm down. When the rain started, they decided to go home, and then the deadly lighting struck," she said.

The bereaved mother said that her family is observant and both she and her husband are teachers in the religious school system.

"As people of faith, it's clear that this could not have been foreseen. Weather can be deadly. We are praying and we welcome the help from the people of Israel, and ask that they keep praying for our children's safety," she said.

On Wednesday, Zikim Beach was empty.

"People are afraid to come, they think the beach is cursed," members of a nearby kibbutz said.
