European Union Ambassador to Israel Emanuele Giaufret on Thursday took part in the Jewish custom of donating matzah and other necessities to needy families ahead of the Passover holiday.
Giaufret said he was "touched by the spirit of community in the Jewish Passover tradition."
In what he described as a "moving experience," Giaufret joined the Shorashim non-profit organization in delivering food packages to Holocaust survivors in Tel Aviv.
On Twitter, Giaufret wrote that he had "met two remarkable men, Dov and Charles. I listened to their heartbreaking stories of childhood marked by the Holocaust, and then how they made the best of their lives."
Reflecting on the brutal murder of 85-year-old Holocaust survivor Mireille Knoll in Paris last Friday, Giaufret said anti-Semitism must be fought on every front.
