The Israeli Embassy to the U.S. responded to a tweet by Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei calling Israel a "cancer" with one of its own on Monday, mocking the Iranian's preoccupation with Israel.
The embassy posted a meme from the 2004 movie "Mean Girls" with a Rachel McAdams quote asking Khamenei, "Why are you so obsessed with me?"
The tweet responded to a Tweet by Khamenei that said, "Israel is a malignant cancerous tumor in the West Asian region that has to be removed and eradicated."
The witty dig won applause on the social media platform, with one user tweeting in response: "Give your social media coordinator a huge raise. Many, many, many shekels."
The quantity of memes tweeted in response lauding the embassy's retort far outweighed anti-Israel responses, which were promptly shut down by Israel's Twitter supporters.
"I think Israel just won the internet," tweeted another user.
