PM rebukes ministers who suggested Israel will assassinate ‎Hamas leaders ‎

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered members of the ‎Diplomatic-Security Cabinet to adhere to the forum's official ‎positions when publicly commenting on Israel's policy in Gaza.‎

Speaking at a conference in Jerusalem, Housing and Construction ‎Minister Yoav ‎Gallant told the audience that Hamas military leader ‎Yahya Sinwar "is living on borrowed time. He won't end ‎his life in a ‎retirement ‎home." ‎

At the same event, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said that "a ‎shift from ‎a defensive to an offensive policy against Hamas ‎means ‎the ‎targeted assassinations of terrorist leaders who are ‎members ‎of ‎Hamas' military wing."‎

He added that Israel is "closer than ever to seizing control ‎of ‎the ‎Gaza Strip." ‎

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, who also addressed the conference, ‎described U.S. President Donald Trump's regional peace plan, which ‎has yet to be presented, "a waste of time."‎

The statements prompted Netanyahu to admonish the ministers, ‎saying, "You have to stick to the positions set by the cabinet in ‎terms of what you can and cannot say."‎

Opposition Leader Tzipi Livni (Zionist Union) criticized the ‎government Tuesday, saying, "If you want to shoot, shoot – don't ‎talk. Empty statements that are not backed by actions are ‎the worst blow you can deal Israel's deterrence." ‎
