Researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem who developed a method of locating land mines from afar using engineered E. coli bacteria have completed a follow-up study that builds upon their previous discovery.

A new study from the Hebrew University scientists indicates that two mutations of the E. coli bacteria are able to identify buried land mines by generating bioluminescent light that can be seen with the naked eye, without need for instruments.
The new research appears in the latest edition of the journal New Biotechnology.
