The government last week issued a tender for the construction of the largest solar power plant in Israel. The facility is to be built near Dimona and stretch some 750 acres, financial daily Globes reported.
The tender was issued as a joint project of the Finance and Energy ministries, along with the Israel Land Authority, and the Public Utilities Authority. So far, 27 companies worldwide have applied to the pre-screening process, "an unprecedented number, indicating the great interest that the project has aroused in Israel and globally," the report said.

The facility is seen as an essential part of achieving the government's target of 30% of Israel's power needs being met from renewable sources by 2030.
