According to new data released by the Health Ministry and the military task force on the coronavirus, Monday, Israel's reproduction rate stands at 0.76.

Of the 56,929 people who tested for the virus, Sunday, 1,339 were found to be infected with COVID-19, for an infection rate of 2.4%. Sunday's infection rate was the lowest weekday rate Israel has recorded in recent months.

The military task force noted that the number of new cases and seriously ill continue to decline.

Israel currently has 27,593 active cases of the coronavirus, 627 of which are serious. Of those in serious condition, 212 are on ventilators. Of the 819,987 Israelis who contracted the virus since the outbreak of the pandemic, 6,025 have died.

The reproduction rate also decreased sharply over the last week in a sign the task force said pointed to a decrease in infections. Nevertheless, with morbidity remaining high, the task force warned against complacency. It cautioned that further easing of coronavirus restrictions could lead to an increase in infections, in particular among the unvaccinated.

As for Israel's vaccination campaign, 5,165,723 Israelis, 55.55% of the population, have received their first dose of the vaccine while 4,209,106, 45.26% of the country's population, have received both doses.

On Saturday, the Health Ministry revealed new data showing a significant drop in coronavirus patients requiring hospitalization.

According to the new figures, less than 10% of people currently being treated in COVID-19 units have been fully vaccinated.

The staggering decrease in the number of COVID patients is due to the effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine, which offers an estimated 95% protection against the virus, the ministry said.
