Some of her most eye-catching work included discoveries of biblically significant finds, mainly within Jerusalem, that added to the city's rich and varied tapestry. She was credited with identifying King David's Palace in the City of David, and led to a lengthy academic dispute about whether she had really found what she claimed.
She also identified Nehemiah's wall, built in the 5th century BCE after the Persians permitted the Jews to return from their Babylonian exile. She discovered the Solomonic multi-chambered gate in Jerusalem as well as numerous other discoveries related to biblical figures.
Her finds include some of the earliest known artifacts in the ancient city, dating as far back as the 12th and 11th centuries BCE, according to Mazar, who proposed they provide scientifically excavated evidence of the biblical united monarchy.
