Participants included Deputy Director-General of El Al Airlines Shlomi Am-Shalom; VP of sales at the Issta travel agency Tali Noy; Deputy Director-General of Israir Gil Stav; and general manager of sales at Lufthansa Israel, Ofer Kisch.
One of the spotlight issues of the conference was the future of the aviation industry, which underwent numerous changes due to the COVID pandemic. The tourism sector will also be affected by Israel's recent peace agreements with Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.
Meanwhile, a number of countries around the world are starting to make their way out of the COVID crisis and some have already opened their borders to Israeli tourists. The conference discussed how Israelis could enter these "green" destinations – what tests they need to complete prior to arrival, forms to be filled out, and general procedures for the post-COVID tourism sector.
Since Israel's successful vaccination campaign, the country's internal tourism sector has seen a successful recovery. Hotels in Eilat and the Dead Sea are fully booked. In Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, the situation is somewhat different, and conference participants discussed the situation of incoming tourism, which is still lagging.
Because the conference took place prior to Operation Guardian of the Walls against Hamas infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, the event did not address the effects of the fighting on Israel's tourism sector.
