According to the Foreign Ministry, the two discussed security and political issues including the efforts to retrieve the Israelis held by Hamas, the terrorist group controlling the Gaza Strip.
They also discussed the issue of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and the need to strengthening Israel's security in the face of terrorism.
An Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that Shoukry stressed "the need to resolve the current stalemate between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, leading to just and comprehensive peace negotiations."
Earlier Sunday, Qatar's Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper reported that an Israeli delegation will head to Cairo later this week as part of the negotiations on a possible prisoner exchange deal with Hamas.
According to the report, the delegation will also discuss a long-term ceasefire with Hamas.
